Methods Total 300 subjects were allocated into three different groups: Groupl, 100 patients who have primary hypertension; Group 2, 100 patients who have primary hypertension with cerebral infarction; and control group, 100 healthy individuals. The genotypes of all subjects were determined by PCR-sequencing to analyze the four poly- morphisms at position - 152 (G-A), -20 (A-C), - 18 (C-T), and -6 (A-G) in the promoter region of AGT. Results The frequen- cies ofCT genotype of AGT-18 and T allele in Group 1 (P = 0.003, P = 0.004) and Group 2 (P = 0.002, P = 0.002) were both significantly higher than in healthy controls. The frequency of G allele of AGT-6 was significantly higher in Group 2 than in the control group (P = 0.016), while there is no significant difference between Group 1 and the control. Haplotype analysis revealed that H6 haplotype frequency which included -20C and -6G was significantly increased in Group 2 (P = 0.003) compared with the control group, while H5 haplotype frequency which included -20C and -18T was signifi- cantly increased in Group 1 (P = 0.006) versus the control. Conclusion The -20 (A-C) and - 18 (C-T) of the AGT may play an important role in pathogenesis of primary hypertension; and -20 (A-C), -18 (C-T), and -6 (A-G) may be the genetic risk factors for the onset of primary hypertension with cerebral infarction in the Li nationality of Halnan, China.展开更多

Oxen.) cv. Tiger. The embryogenic calli were precultured on fresh medium for 4-7 days and then co cultivated with Agrobacterium tumefaciens , LBA4404, which contains plasmid vector pSBGM harboring bar coding region, synthetic green fluorescent protein (sGFP) coding region and matrix attachment region (MAR). After 3 days of co cultivation, the calli were washed thoroughly and transferred to MS medium containing 2 mg/L of 2, 4 D, 12-15 mg/L phosphinothricin (PPT) and 250 mg/L of cefotaxime. After 2-3 months of selection, the actively growing calli of 'Regent' and 'Tiger' were transferred to MS medium with 12-15 mg/L PPT and 250 mg/L cefotaxime for regeneration. The putative transformants were maintained on MS medium with 3 mg/L PPT for long period but control died within 1 month. After establishing in greenhouse, the transformants also showed strong resistance to 0.4% of herbicide Basta but control plants died within 2 weeks. Under confocal microscope, both young leaves and roots showed significant GFP expression. PCR analysis revealed the presence of a DNA fragment of GFP gene at the expected size (380 bp) in the transformants and its absence in a randomly selected control plant.展开更多

To investigate whether the polymorphisms in the angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) gene and angiotensinogen (AGT) gene are associated with essential hypertension. Methods. A case-control study was carried out using 103 hypertensive (HT) and 131 normotensive (NT) subjects. The insertion/deletion(I / D ) polymorphism of the ACE gene and the methionine→threo- nine variant at position 235 (M235T) of the AGT gene were determined by the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique and PCR/restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR/RFLP) analysis, respective- ly. Results. The differences of D allele frequency and genotype distribution of the ACE gene between NT and HT groups were statistically significant (X^2=18.12, P<0. 005 ). The T235 allele frequency of the AGT gene was 69% in NT Chinese group (approximately 1. 38 to l. 64 fold that in Caucasians), and was greater in female HT than in NT (0. 82 vs 0. 72, X^2= 8. l, P<0. 025). A correlation between M235T molecular variant of the AGT gene and I/D molecular variant of ACE gene to hypertension was found. Cbeclusions. The possession of D allele of the ACE gene might be a marker for predisposition to hyper- tension. The T235 allele of the AGT gene was more common in Chinese than in Caucasians, and might contribute to the risk for hypertension in female Chinese.展开更多

It is a multifunctional process that involves several cell types, cytokines, chemokines and growth factors leading to a disruption of homeostatic mechanisms that maintain the liver ecosystem. In spite of many studies regarding the development of fibrosis, the understanding of the pathogenesis remains obscure. The hepatic tissue remodeling process is highly complex, resulting from the balance between collagen degradation and synthesis. Among the many mediators that take part in this process, the components of the Renin angiotensin system (RAS) have progressively assumed an important role. Angiotensin (Ang) II acts as a profibrotic mediator and Ang-(1-7), the newly recognized RAS component, appears to exert a counter-regulatory role in liver tissue. We briefly review the liver fibrosis process and current aspects of the RAS. This review also aims to discuss some experimental evidence regarding the participation of RAS mediators in the pathogenesis of liver fibrosis, focusing on the putative role of the ACE2-Ang-(1-7)- Mas receptor axis.展开更多

An on-chip high-performance transmit/receive(T/R) switch is designed and simulated in 0.13-μm CMOS technology for reader-less RFID tag. The switch utilizes only the transistor width and length(W/L) optimization, proper gate bias resistor and resistive body floating technique and therefore, exhibits 1 d B insertion loss, 31.5 d B isolation and 29.2 d Bm 1-d B compression point(P1d B). Moreover, the switch dissipates only786.7 n W power for 1.8/0 V control voltages and is capable of switching in 794 fs. Above all, as there is no inductor or capacitor used in the circuit, the size of the switch is 0.00208 mm2 only. Methods. In rat aortic artery restenosis model produced by denudation of aortic endothelia,we observed changes of endothelin(ET),angiotensin II(AII),calcitonin gene-related peptide(CGRP)and adrenomedullin(Adm)in plasma and aorta with radioimmunoassay and expression of hypertension-related gene(HRG-1)with semi-quantitative RT-PCR,and studied the effects of these peptides on intimal hyperplasia,intima/media ratio and MAPK activities of aortic artery after angioplasty respectively. Furthermore,in cultured cells,we studied the effects of these peptides on vascular smooth muscle cell(VSMC) proliferation and expression of HRG-1 of VSMC from spontaneously hypertensive rats(SHR)and Wistar-Kyoto(WKY)rats with 3H-TdR incorporation and RT-PCR respectively. Results. After angioplasty, the levels of ET and AII in plasma and aorta significantly increased, accompanied with VSMC proliferation and neointima hyperplasia. On day 10 after angioplasty, the levels of ET in plasma and aorta increased by 69% and 124% respectively, compared with sham group(P<0.01);and the level of aortic AII increased by 80%(P< 0.01). Antiserum against ET or inhibitors of angiotensin converting enzyme(ACE)could significantly inhibit the proliferation of VSMC and neointima formation. Compared with the sham group,on day 3 after angioplasty, the CGRP levels in plasma and aorta increased by 64% and 89% respectively(P< 0.01)and the Adm levels in plasma and tissue increased by 129% and 102% respectively(P< 0.01). On day 10,intravenous administration of CGRP significantly inhibited the proliferation of VSMC and neointima forma-tion induced by balloon aortic injury(by 66% and 79% respectively,P< 0.01). In addition,ET and AII attenuated the expression of HRG-1 in aorta and stimulated mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK)activity, while CGRP and Adm potentiated the expression of HRG-1 and inhibited MAPK.Conclusions. ET and AII can stimulate the proliferation of injured intima while CGRP and Adm have an anti-hyperplasia effect after angioplasty. These 4 peptides are involved in the regulation of VSMC proliferation and affect the development of vascular restenosis by regulating the expression of HRG-1 and MAPK activity.展开更多

Compact City is an urban planning and development concept which promotes relatively high population density associated with an integrated and mixed-use land district. It is enabled by transit-oriented development and results in low transport-related energy consumption and reduced the GHG (Greenhouse Gases) pollution. Compact City conserves the natural capital of land mass and subscribes to the strong sustainability ethics. ICT (Information and Communications Technology) could be deployed to optimize the Compact City operations by first tackling some of the development problems associated with Compact City and also unleashing new urban innovations and functionalities to achieve sustainable urbanization. The paper suggests and elucidates several general systemic synergies archetypes such as co-benefits, cascading, ICT infrastructure reuse, etc., which could be leveraged to facilitate the emergence of compact green smart and resilient city. These archetypes are solutions to the Compact City paradigm thus conductive to the development ofa Sustainability Science of Compact City.展开更多

Published in 1841, The National System of Political economy establishes a hard dialogue with the Wealth of nations written by Smith. The criticism is built around the idea of nation. In List, the nation, as synonym of productive forces, is a critic to the Smith's nation idea as a free market. The List's idea of nation is a product of a group of structural (and not only cultural or mental) transformations that occurred during the Revolutions of 1830 and 1848 in Europe. The result is the emergency of a new form of State, the nation-State. The political economy elaborates their critics in the measure in capitalism changes. The nation, in the national system of political economy of List, synthesizes the unification of the territory, the consolidation of the national industry and an internal market free from barriers and interlinked by a modem net of transports. In a contradictory way, that nation idea is based in great territory and its empire and not on the nationality principle, according to which, each people, yet that very small, has the right to its own territory. The unified and industrially developed States build immense empires that, in practical terms, contravene the principle of nationality展开更多

Such control systems are used in different branches of industry and infrastructure including oil industry, chemical industry, water treatment, canalization and others. The stand allows realizing level, flow, pressure and temperature control systems, using pump, valves, discrete and analog sensors. Level control system is described in this work. PID (proportional integral derivative) controllers are used in these systems. Control is switched on and off and the parameters of control systems are changed by means of SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) system. During real technological processes, these actions are performed by the operator. The algorithm of the control system is realized using PLC (programmable logic controller). At the end of the article conclusions about the research are drawn.展开更多

Methods: A randomized, controlled experiment, was performed at the Department of Radiology Laboratory, the First Hospital Affiliated to Soochow University, between September 2004 and January 2006. Brain glioma SHG-44 cells were divided into three groups: SHG-44, SHG-44-10, and SHG-44-10 + ACE cells groups. The SHG-44-10 cells group was irradiated with dose of 10 Gy by a linear accelerator (6 MVX). It was passaged for 15 generations and cultured in RPMI-1640 culture media. Then SHG-44-10 + ACE cells group was treated with ACE. Measures: Community re-double time, mean lethal dose (DO), extrapolation number (N), fraction surviving fraction irradiated by 2 Gy dose (SF2), quasi-threshold dose (Dq), and cell cycle. Results: The SF2 of the SHG-44, SHG-44-10, and SHG-44-10 + ACE cells groups were 70.8%, 80.6% and 45.2%, respectively, with significance (P = 0.040). The SHG-44-10 and SHG-44-10 + ACE cells groups were irradiated with 8 Gy. After 12 hours, the G2/M ratio of the SHG-44-10 and SHG-44-10 + ACE cells groups were indicating significantly higher ratio compared to pre-irradiated groups (P 〈 0.01). After 24 hours, the G2/M ratio of the SHG-44-10 cells group decreased rapidly, while the ratio of the SHG-44-10 + ACE cells group still maintained in high level. Conclusion: In the present study, Subtoxic dose of ACE increased the radiosensitivity of the progeny of irradiated human glioma cell. ACE may be an useful radiosensitivity agent in the treatment of recrudescent human malignant glioma.展开更多

These 4 peptides are involved in the regulation of VSMC proliferation and affect the development of vascular restenosis by regulating the expression of HRG-1 and MAPK activity.
文摘This brief conceptual paper contributes a sustainability theoretic perspective of an urbanization paradigm known as Compact City. These archetypes are solutions to the Compact City paradigm thus conductive to the development ofa Sustainability Science of Compact City.
文摘The article intends to work about Friedrich List political economy starting from a specific point of view: idea of nation. The unified and industrially developed States build immense empires that, in practical terms, contravene the principle of nationality
文摘This article describes the development of automatic control system on the basis of Festo "Compact Workstation" training stand. At the end of the article conclusions about the research are drawn.
文摘Objective: To study the effects of acetaminophen (ACE) combined with radiation on the progeny of the human glioma cell line SHG-44, and to investigate if ACE may be an useful therapeutic radiosensitivity agent in the treatment of recurrent human glioma. ACE may be an useful radiosensitivity agent in the treatment of recrudescent human malignant glioma.
文摘Objective To detect the A/C1165 polymorphism of angiotensin Ⅱ type Ⅰ receptor (AT1-R)gene in essential hypertensive elderly. Methods The A/C1166 polymorphism of AT1-R gene was assessed by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) in a case-control study of 87 essential hypertensive elders (EH) and 55 normolensive elders (NT). Results The genotype frequencies of AA, AC, CC were 0 .805 , 0.161, 0 .034 in EH group and 0 .927 ,0 .073 ,0 .000 in NT group respectively. The frequency of C61166 allele was higher in EH group (0.115) than in NT group (0 .036 )(P<0 .05 ). Conclusion The resultsindicate that A/C1166 polymorphism of AT1-R gene may be associated with essential hypertension in elderly.
