Thus, it is essential to further explore th...The vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene is a primary candidate gene for tuberculosis susceptibility, but results of previous studies are somewhat contradictory and underpowered. Thus, it is essential to further explore the association between VDR gene polymorphisms and risk of pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB). Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis about the association between Fok[, TaqI, Apal and Bsm[ polymorphisms and PTB susceptibility was conducted. Statistical Package for Social Science (Version 13.0) and Review Manager (Version 4.2, The Cochrane Collaboration) were used to analyze the data reported in studies. Results: A total of 13 studies with 2 262 cases and 2 833 controls were involved in the FokI polymorphism, and the results showed FokI polymorphism was associated with PTB susceptibility (allele f vs F: OR=1.12, 95% CI=[1.02, 1.23]; the additive effect model ff vs FF: OR=1.40, 95%CI=[1.10, 1.77]; the recessive genetic model firs Ff+FF: OR=1.39, 95%CI=[1.12, 1.71]). No significant associations were observed between TaqI (15 studies with 3 031 cases and 3 132 controls), ApaI (7 studies with 1 495 cases and 1 922 controls), BsmI (6 studies with 919 cases and 1 250 controls) variants and PTB susceptibility. Conclusion: We found variant Fokl polymorphism of VDR gene may play a risky role in PTB development, and the genetic model was presumed to be recessive.展开更多
Direct syngas conversion to light olefins on bifunctional oxide-zeolite(OX-ZEO)catalysts is of great interest to both academia and industry,but the role of oxygen vacancy(Vo)in metal oxides and whether the key interme...Direct syngas conversion to light olefins on bifunctional oxide-zeolite(OX-ZEO)catalysts is of great interest to both academia and industry,but the role of oxygen vacancy(Vo)in metal oxides and whether the key intermediate in the reaction mechanism is ketene or methanol are still not well-understood.To address these two issues,we carry out a theoretical study of the syngas conversion on the typical reducible metal oxide,CeO2,using density functional theory calculations.Our results demonstrate that by forming frustrated Lewis pairs(FLPs),the VOs in CeO2 play a key role in the activation of H2 and CO.The activation of H2 on FLPs undergoes a heterolytic dissociative pathway with a tiny barrier of 0.01 eV,while CO is activated on FLPs by combining with the basic site(O atom)of FLPs to form CO2^2-.Four pathways for the conversion of syngas were explored on FLPs,two of which are prone to form ketene and the other two are inclined to produce methanol suggesting a compromise to resolve the debate about the key intermediates(ketene or methanol)in the experiments.Rate constant calculations showed that the route initiating with the coupling of two CO*into OCCO*and ending with the formation of ketene is the dominant pathway,with the neighboring FLPs playing an important role in this pathway.Overall,our study reveals the function of the surface FLPs in the activation of H2 and CO and the reaction mechanism for the production of ketene and methanol for the first time,providing novel insights into syngas conversion over OX-ZEO catalysts.展开更多

Methods Case-control studies on relatio...Objective To investigate the association between two polymorphisms of follicle stimulating hormone receptor (FSHR) gene and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) susceptibility. Methods Case-control studies on relationship of Thr307Ala and Asn680Ser polymorphisms in FSHR gene and PCOS susceptibility were searched from PubMed, ISI web of knowledge, EBSCO, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) databases up to March 21, 2013. The pooled odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CO were calculated using fixed- or random-effect model based on heterogeneity test in 5 genotype models analyses. Results A total of 11 studies were included in the Meta-analysis. The random-effect analysis showed Asn680Ser was significantly associated with the reduced susceptibility to PCOS with dominant model (Asn/Asn+Asn/Ser vs. Ser/Ser, OR=0.83, 95% CI: 0.69-1.00), recessive model (Asn/Asn vs. Asn/Ser+ Ser/Ser, OR=0.84, 95% CI: 0.72-0.98), homozygote comparison (Ash/Ash vs. Ser/Ser, 0R=0.79, 95% CI: 0.63-0.98), and the allele contrast (Asn vs. Ser, OR=0.87, 95% CI: 0.79-0.97) respectively(P=0.02, I2=56.0%), being protective factors for PCOS. The TVPA 2000 and its subsequent reauthorizations in 2003, 2005, and 200...The United States Congress set a benchmark in US anti-human trafficking policy with the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000 (TVPA 2000J. The TVPA 2000 and its subsequent reauthorizations in 2003, 2005, and 2008 were put forth to increase the scope, focus, and effectiveness of US efforts to combat human trafficking. In-depth analyses of each reauthorization provide an understanding of the aims of the TVPA. The evolution of the TVPA reauthorizations dearly demonstrates that the US is committed to thwarting human trafficking both domestically and internationally. The analyses examine strengths and weaknesses of the legislation and provide insight as to how the TVPA reached its current state as the William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2008 (TVPRA 2008). Drawing from the evolution of TVPA legislation, the future of the human trafficking phenomenon and legislation is discussed.展开更多

Methods: The study population comprised 316 healthyUygur subjects with an age range of 1-80 years old, fromwhom whole peripheral blood samples were collected andnone were HIV-1 seropositive. Genomic DNA samples werepurified using a Qiagen Blood Kit. Genotyping of theaforementioned four alleles was performed using PCR orPCR/RFLP assay, and further confirmed by direct DNAsequencing. Results: The allelic frequencies in Chinese Uygurpopulation were as follows: 3.48% for CCR5△32; 19.45% forCCR2b-64I; 13.8% for CX3CR1-2491280M haplotype, and20.41% for SDF1-3'A. Mutant allele distributions amongUygur populations were in accordance with theHardy-Weinberg equilibrium. No statistical difference wasfound between the frequency of the three HIV coreceptors andtheir respective ligand genes. Conclusion: The frequency of SDF1-3'A andCX3CR1-2491280M haplotypes in these Uygur populationswas similar to that of Caucasian people, while the frequency ofthe CCR2b-64I haplotype more closely matched the HanChinese.
