By using the F-expansion, without calculating Jacobi elliptic functions, we obtain simultaneously many periodic wave solutions expressed by various Jacobi elliptic functions for the variant Boussinesq equations. Relationship between the Periodic Fluctuations of Pressure and Precipitation during a Rainstorm

The relationship between periodic fluctuations of pressure and precipitation was investigated using the continuous wavelet transform and wavelet coherence transform methods for a rainstorm case that occurred during 19–25 June 2005 in Guangdong Province, China. The results show that a period of 2–4 h existed in both pressure and precipitation fluctuations. Furthermore, this high frequency pressure fluctuation was closely related to the fluctuation of precipitation with a similar period, and the fluctuation of pressure was about two hours ahead of the precipitation fluctuation variation. Since the high frequency pressure fluctuation implies the existence of gravity wave activity, the results suggest that gravity wave activities with a 2–4 h period in the atmosphere exerted an important influence on precipitation during this rainstorm. 展开更多

Runoff series of the Yangtze River presents an intricate variation tendency under the reinforced influence of human activities.The Morlet Wavelet Transform method has been applied to analyze the annual runoff data from 1950 to 2011 at the Yangtze River Estuary.It can clearly reveal the multi-time scales structure,break point,change and distribution of periodic variation in the different time scales of the runoff series.The main conclusions are that:1) Repeated periodic oscillations accompanied by an extremely large fluctuation are presented in the runoff series with an obvious difference between wet and dry years,and the major periods of the time series are about 3,8,16 and 23 years respectively.Among them,the presented maximum periodic oscillation is 23 years scale.2) In the 23-year time scale,the wet periods are 1950-1958,1969-1980 and 1992-2003,and the dry periods are 1959-1968,1981-1991 and 2004-2011.3) It can be predicted from the view of long time scales that the low annual runoff will likely occur in the near future. 展开更多

Modal recovery of sea-level variability in the South China Sea using merged altimeter data

Using 20 years (1993-2012) of merged data recorded by contemporary multi-altimeter missions, a variety of sea-level variability modes are recovered in the South China Sea employing three- dimensional harmonic extraction. In terms of the long-term variation, the South China Sea is estimated to have a rising sea-level linear trend of 5.39 mm/a over these 20 years. Among the modes extracted, the seven most statistically significant periodic or quasi-periodic modes are identified as principal modes. The geographical distributions of the magnitudes and phases of the modes are displayed. In terms of intra- annual and annual regimes, two principal modes with strict semiannual and annual periods are found, with the annual variability having the largest amplitudes among the seven modes. For interannual and decadal regimes, five principal modes at approximately 18, 21, 23, 28, and 112 months are found with the most mode- active region being to the east of Vietnam. For the phase distributions, a series of amphidromes are observed as twins, termed "amphidrome twins", comprising rotating dipole systems. The stability of periodic modes is investigated employing joint spatiotemporal analysis of latitude/longitude sections. Results show that all periodic modes are robust, revealing the richness and complexity of sea-level modes in the South China Sea. 展开更多

Diurnal variation of tropical cyclone (TC rainfall in the western North Pacific (WNP) is investi gated using the high-resolution Climate Prediction Ce~ ter's morphing technique (CMORPH) products obtaine from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administra tion (NOAA). From January 2008 to October 2010, 7 TCs and 389 TC rainfall days were reported by the Joir Typhoon Warning Center's (JTWC) best-track record. Th TC rain rate was partitioned using the Objective Synopti Analysis Technique (OSAT) and interpolated into Local Standard Time (LST). Harmonic analysis was applied t analyze the diurnal variation of the precipitation. Obviou diurnal cycles were seen in approximately 70% of the TC rainfall days. The harmonic amplitude and phase of the mean TC rainfall rate vary with TC intensity, life stage, season, and spatial distribution. On the basis of intensity, tropical de- pressions (TDs) exhibit the highest precipitation variation amplitude (PVA), at approximately 30%, while super ty- phoons (STs) contain the lowest PVA, at less than 22%. On the basis of lifetime stage, the PVA in the decaying stage (more than 37%) is stronger than that in the devel oping (less than 20%) and sustaining (28%) stages. On the basis of location, the PVA of more than 35% (less than 18%) is the highest (lowest) over the high-latitude oceanic areas (the eastern ocean of the Philippine Islands). In ad dition, a sub-diurnal cycle of TC rainfall occurs over the high-latitude oceans. On the basis of season, the diurnal variation is more pronounced during summer and winter, at approximately 30% and 32%, respectively, and is weaker in spring and autumn, at approximately 22% and 24%, respectively. 展开更多

A coupled KdV equation is studied in this manuscript. The exact solutions, such as the periodic wave solutions and solitary wave solutions by means of the deformation and mapping approach from the solutions of the nonlinear φ4 model are given. Using the symmetry theory, the Lie point symmetries and symmetry reductions of the coupled KdV equation are presented. The results show that the coupled KdV equation possesses infinitely many symmetries and may be considered as an integrable system. Also, the Palnleve test shows the coupled KdV equation possesses Palnleve property. The Backlund transformations of the coupled KdV equation related to Palnleve property and residual symmetry are shown. 展开更多
