Flow velocity, strain and stress distribution of 7075 aluminum alloy plate during snake rolling and symmetrical rolling were analyzed in Deform 3D. Effects of velocity ratio, offset distance between two rolls and pass reduction on the distribution of equivalent strain and shear strain were analyzed. The results show that flow velocity and equivalent strain on the lower layer of the plate are larger than those of the upper layer because of the larger velocity of the lower roll and the gap is increased with the increase of velocity ratio and pass reduction. The shear strain of roiling direction in the center point is almost zero during symmetrical rolling, while it is much larger during snake rolling because of the existence of rub zone. The shear strain is increased with the increase of velocity ratio, offset distance and pass reduction. This additional shear strain is beneficial to improve the in_homogeneous strain distribution.展开更多

A material imperfection with lower strength in comparison with the intact rock, which is close to the lower-left corner of the specimen, was prescribed. In elastic stage, the adopted constitutive relation of rock was linear elastic; in strain-softening stage, a composite Mohr-Coulomb criterion with tension cut-off and a post-peak linear constitutive relation were adopted. The numerical results show that with an increase of confining pressure the peak strength of axial stress-axial strain curve and the corresponding axial strain linearly increase; the residual strength and the stress drop from the peak strength to the residual strength increase; the failure modes of rock transform form the multiple shear bands close to the loading end of the specimen (confining pressure=0-0.1 MPa), to the conjugate shear bands (0.5-2.0 MPa), and then to the single shear band (4-28 MPa). Once the tip of the band reaches the loading end of the specimen, the direction of the band changes so that the reflection of the band occurs. At higher confining pressure, the new-formed shear band does not intersect the imperfection, bringing extreme difficulties in prediction of the failure of rock structure, such as rock burst. The present results enhance the understanding of the shear failure processes and patterns of rock specimen in higher confining pressure and higher loading strain rate.展开更多

This work targets two deep artesian wells(>5000 m) that are producing heavy crude oil. The impacts of well conditions including temperature, pressure and shear rate, on the crude oil rheology were comprehensively investigated and correlated using several empirical rheological models. The experimental data indicate that this heavy oil is very sensitive to temperature as result of microstructure change caused by hydrogen bonding. The rheological behavior of the heavy oil is also significantly impacted by the imposed pressure, i.e., the viscosity flow activation energy(Eμ) gently increases with the increasing pressure. The viscosity–shear rate data are well fitted to the power law model at low temperature. However, due to the transition of fluid feature at high temperature(Newtonian fluid), the measured viscosity was found to slightly deviate from the fitting data. Combining the evaluated correlations, the viscosity profile of the heavy crude oil in these two deep artesian wells as a function of well depth was predicted using the oilfield producing data.展开更多

Although the two flows are similar, there are many differences. The results achieved in such manner are therefore also only similar to the results that can be achieved during measurements in the surf zone. Present article deals with boundary layer measurements on an inclined bottom under breaking waves. The measurements over the whole wave cycle were carried out, and the shear velocity under the breaking wave was calculated based on the measurements. It was found that there is a considerable space and time variation of the term in the surf zone. The turbulence generated during the wave breaking changes the shape of the shear velocity profile in comparison to the profile measured before breaking. As the values of shear velocity are directly correlated with the description of the whole velocity field in the wave, it can be assumed that the enhanced description of the shear velocity results in better understanding of the whole velocity field under breaking waves. Therefore, the article brings a new insight into the field and aims to make a discussion about the need to rethink the way of describing the boundary layer flow in the surf zone.展开更多

The paper provides a brief synthesis of ground motion and site effects analysis procedures within a Performance-Based Design framework. In particular it focuses about the influence on the evaluation of site effects in some active regions by different shear waves velocity measurements (Down Hole D-H and Seismic Dilatometer Marchetti Test SDMT). Moreover the variation of shear modulus and damping ratio with strain level and depth from different laboratory dynamic or cyclic tests for soil characterisation (Resonant Column Test RCT) was evaluated. The available data enabled one to compare the shear waves velocity profile obtained by laboratory and in situ tests (Cone Penetration Tests CPT) with empirical correlations proposed in literature.展开更多

To alleviate the matching problems between the layer permeability and the injected polymer molecular weight, a molecular weight adjusting device with porous medium was designed on the basis of mechanical degradation principle. In terms of four variables (polymer concentration, pore diameter, length of shear component and flow rate ), the theological behavior of hydrolyzed polyacrylamide (HPAM) solu- tion flowing through the device was investigated in detail. The change of these variables is able to control the shear rate of HPAM solutions through ceramic foam, and achieve the desired degree of shear degradation and the final theological parameters-viscosity loss, viscoelasticity and pressure drop. Therefore, a linear relationship between viscosity loss and shearing rate was established so as to obtain the targeted viscosity easily. Field tests in the Daqing Oil Field showed that the polymer molecular weight could drop 20% to 50%. In a word, the results could guide the industrial application of the novel device and the further study of polymer degradation flowing through the porous medium.展开更多

Jaumanns rate, Fus rate and Wus rate were incorporated into the endochronic equations to analyze simple shear finite deformation. Incremental equations and numerical solutions are deduced for three endochronic objective models. The results show that an oscillatory shear stress response to a monotonically increasing shear strain occurs when the Jaumanns rate objective model is employed for endochronic materials. The oscillatory response is dependent on the adopted objective rate. Compared with the Jaumanns rate, the Fus rate and the Wus rate satisfy the restrictions to elastic-plastic constitutive relations and are in agreement with the experimental results.展开更多
