A method to forecast the over-excavation of underground opening by using the Bayes discriminant analysis(BDA)theory was presented.The Bayes discriminant analysis theory was introduced.Based on an engineering example,t...A method to forecast the over-excavation of underground opening by using the Bayes discriminant analysis(BDA)theory was presented.The Bayes discriminant analysis theory was introduced.Based on an engineering example,the factors influencing the over-excavation of underground opening were taken into account to build a forecast BDA model,and the prior information about over-excavation of underground opening was also taken into consideration.Five parameters influencing the over-excavation of opening,including 2 groups of joints,1 group of layer surface,extension and space between structure faces were selected as geometric parameters.Engineering data in an underground opening were used as the training samples.The cross-validation method was introduced to verify the stability of BDA model and the ratio of mistake-discrimination was equal to zero after the BDA model was trained.Data in an underground engineering were used to test the discriminant ability of BDA model.The results show that five forecast results are identical with the actual situation and BDA can be used in practical engineering.展开更多

New English Curriculum for Chinese Primary Schools and Junior/Senior High Schools indicates English is not only a "Tool", but also carries information and features of "Humanism". This article conducted one year-long qualitative case study of three high school English teachers from different districts in Beijing. Data were collected through class observation, teachers' office observation, and interviews with teachers, students, and parents Data analysis followed qualitative procedures. Findings show that the three English teachers do not have strong awareness of humanism: None of them believes students and teachers are equal. Two teachers incorporate "rational and critical thinking" when they work as head teachers, but neither applies it when they serve as English teachers. Humanistic education is not prevalent but effective in teachers' development training. More relevant trainings are expected to benefit more teachers.展开更多

Nineteen morphometric measurements were made for each in...Truss network data were collected and investigated in order to clarify the morphological variation in populations of Coilia mystus from three Chinese estuaries. Nineteen morphometric measurements were made for each individual, and Burnaby's multivariate method was used to obtain size-adjusted shape data. The cluster analysis and discriminant analysis were used to discriminate morphological differences among populations. The results indicated that 1) the three populations were clustered into two distinct groups: the first group included Changiiang C. mystus and Zhujiang C. mystus, the last one included Minjiang C. mystus, and 2) discriminant analysis with selected 5 morphological parameters showed that the identification accuracy was between 98.7952% and 100%, and global identification accuracy was 99.2933%. Reproductive isolation and adaption to environmental condition are determinant factors for morphological variation between populations of C. mystus.展开更多

In order to estimate landslide hazard, the susceptibility, magnitude (area-velo...In this paper, an attempt to analyse landslide hazard and vulnerability in the municipality of Pahuatlfin, Puebla, Mexico, is presented. In order to estimate landslide hazard, the susceptibility, magnitude (area-velocity ratio) and landslide frequency of the area of interest were produced based on information derived from a geomorphological landslide inventory; the latter was generated by using very high resolution satellite stereo pairs along with information derived from other sources (Google Earth, aerial photographs and historical information). Estimations of landslide susceptibility were determined by combining four statistical techniques: (i) logistic regression, (ii) quadratic discriminant analysis, (iii) linear discriminant analysis, and (iv) neuronal networks. A Digital Elevation Model (DEM) of lo m spatial resolution was used to extract the slope angle, aspect, curvature, elevation and relief. These factors, in addition to land cover, lithology anddistance to faults, were used as explanatory variables for the susceptibility models. Additionally, a Poisson model was used to estimate landslide temporal frequency, at the same time as landslide magnitude was obtained by using the relationship between landslide area and the velocity of movements. Then, due to the complexity of evaluating it, vulnerability of population was analysed by applying the Spatial Approach to Vulnerability Assessment (SAVE) model which considered levels of exposure, sensitivity and lack of resilience. Results were expressed on maps on which different spatial patterns of levels of landslide hazard and vulnerability were found for the inhabited areas. It is noteworthy that the lack of optimal methodologies to estimate and quantify vulnerability is more notorious than that of hazard assessments. Consequently, levels of uncertainty linked to landslide risk assessment remain a challenge to be addressed.展开更多

Although successive amendments to the law have endeavored to improve the handling of con...The objective phenomenon of reliance on confessions is the source of many problems in the practice of criminal justice in China. Although successive amendments to the law have endeavored to improve the handling of confessions, they have been unable to resolve the dilemma of a rigid management mode, incompatible management strategies, and conflicting attitudes towards management. This paper has made a multi-dimensional reinterpretation of it from the judges' perspective, including functional analysis, cultural interpretation and immediate considerations. It reveals that behind its functions of offering moral comfort or allowing evasion of responsibility, confession, as a medium of physical and intellectual management, has the more important function of supplementing and improving the legitimacy of criminal verdicts. The remolding of the legitimacy of criminal verdicts with the coordinated improvement of the management of confessions will change the mode of association between those who currently govern confession and those they govern and will clash with the current closed mode of criminal justice management, thereby promoting a transformation in the governance of criminal justice.展开更多
