Then the viewpoint was put forward that CCRR is not an appropriate method of appraising the regional sustainability, but a sound way to obtain cognition for coordinating spatial location and flow of population and economy. However, as the most popular computing method of CCRR, the Weighting Linear Sum Model is defective in the random of weight choice and the neglect of matching among different resources. Therefore, this article established the Geometric Model on CCRR based on modifying Weighting Linear Sum Model, which can be used to appraise regions where resources are close matching. Employing the Geometric Model, the article empirically analyzed the population and economic CCRR in Hubei Province from 1978 to 2006. The result indicates that the population in Hubei Province is overloading while the economic carrying capacity is abundant compared to the whole country, and the economic insufficiency restricts the population carrying capacity. In the future, Hubei Province will become one of the core developing zones which are characterized by economic conglomeration.展开更多

Our hypothesis is that principles are applicable across regions, but key drivers interact to influence producer decisions and create distinct production systems. We interviewed agricultural producers to examine the underlying rationale for producer decisions and discern primary factors influencing production and marketing practices. While drivers are common among regions, interactions between drivers and influences on decision-makers vary substantially to create unique production systems. The internal social driver that values farming lifestyle is the principal factor that leads people to farming. The type of farming is partly a lifestyle choice and is influenced by other factors. Economic drivers and marketing options are primary drivers influencing production systems and management choices, as farmers provide an economic foundation for their families. While all producers employed strategies to manage production and marketing risks, these varied with different marketing channels. Identification of key drivers and principles can be used by producers, scientists and policy makers to direct agricultural production and agricultural research. New management systems can be developed that are flexible enough to respond to changing societal demands, and are environmentally and economically sustainable.展开更多

Kadir Has University building has been selected as the case study of the research. Success of the conversion and interventions in terms of sustainability will be discussed. The aim of the study is to question adaptive reuse project of the Cibali Tobacco Factory as university within the framework of urban regeneration of Cibali district. The relation between adaptive reuse projects and its relationship among socio-cultural, economic, and physical dimensions of the sustainability, also its effects on the environment and region has been discussed. Adaptive reuse examples should not be accepted as single projects. Its contribution to the environment and the region is also crucial. Preservation of an individual building can be a catalyst to renewal of others. It can help the transformation of the whole area. There is always an interaction between the conversion projects and the environment. In order to achieve a successful conversion, appropriate functions should be given to the industrial heritage buildings according to the needs of the region.展开更多

A network or a partnership is identified as a "structural" form of social capital and a tool to empower participants in the networks. There is a belief that social networks can be initiated or created at every level of social capital, from micro to macro. However, the concept of community is the key component of social capital, creating both physical ties (geographical locality) and normative behaviours (sense of belonging). Therefore, this study is intended to enhance social capital at the community or micro-level, in order to sustain tourism development in those areas, and networking is initiated to enhance social capital. Participatory Action Research (PAR) was applied to tourism development in Kon Kaen Province. Tools and techniques used during this study included: observations, preliminary meetings, community meetings, tourism audits, workshops, and network meetings. Eleven districts in Khon Kaen were actively involved in the planning process.展开更多

This means we can not only consider our current short-term interests, but also give our future generations a healthy and sustainable environment to further develop the natural and cultural environment. In those environmental conditions, our future generations can have the same quality of life as us forever, keep ecological and sustainable development of the world, and even be able to have a better quality of life than ever before. In sustainable urban development, first of all, it is to be in accordance with the laws of nature to have a cooperative and friendly attitude to treat the environment. In this rational way of working, we must respectfully treat human nature, it is a huge sustainable ecosystems. We can either learn a lot of knowledge from nature' s perfect eco-cycle system, but also it can be used in future planning and design.展开更多

Simultaneously, Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is becoming increasingly important. The change in the accounting profession and in accounting education offers an opportunity to formulate initial observations on the Italian university world in terms of the preparation of future professional accountants. This study uses the International Education Standards (lESs) published by the International Accounting Education Standards Board (IAESB), in particular the IES 2 (content of professional accounting education programs). The aim of the paper, which is of an empirical nature, is to understand the role of universities in Italy in the preparation of accountants in the light of the IES 2 provisions. The study and its policy implications may contribute to the debate on accounting education at national and international levels, also in the light of ESD.展开更多

Today, there is an increasing need for sustainable building design. Besides, BIM (building information modeling) is one of the most noteworthy developments in construction industry. BIM is used to make the planning, design, construction, and operation process more integrated. The purpose of this paper is to survey application of BIM in sustainable building design. This exploration is done by reviewing the existing studies in the field of BIM and sustainable design. There have been few attempts to evaluate and analyze the benefits of BIM in sustainable design, and existing researches have not developed integrated analysis to evaluate different aspects of BIM application. In this study, BIM and sustainable design researches are categorized into some major areas. First, frameworks and design strategies for better implementation of sustainable design have been developed. Other application of BIM software is for improving sustainable design in which some case studies have been presented for this purpose. Another major area is focusing on a specific aspect of sustainable buildings such as using natural resources, energy simulation, daylighting analysis and carbon emissions. Scrutiny review of the current studies shows excellent potential for interaction of BIM with sustainable construction.展开更多

The strategic prospective is a social science discipline dedicated to explore the future. Based on qualitative methods with participative experts and stakeholders, the strategic prospective allows designing different future scenarios and planning the transformation of a current situation into a desired future. To design sustainable futures, this paper proposes a four-stage methodology: understanding the context; strategy visualization; design of alternative scenarios and definition of desired future; and planning its construction. This methodology makes evident the possibility of seeking alternative scenarios for a sustainable future in different scopes, particularly, in two prospective applications: biodiversity conservation and water treatment. The outcomes of the application have allowed proposing strategies and policies for the management of environmental goods, such as environmental services and water reuse, with a long-time outlook based on a collective desired future.展开更多
