According to the thermodynamic theory of IC engine, in-cylinder exergy balance model was built. The working processes of gasoline engine were simulated by using the GT-power. In this way, the required parameters were calculated and then gasoline engine exergy balance was obtained by programming on computer. On this basis, the influences of various parameters on exergy balance were analyzed. Results show that, the proportions of various forms of exergy in gasoline engine from high to low are irreversible loss, effective work, exhaust gas exergy and heat transfer exergy. Effective exergy proportion fluctuates with cylinder volumetric efficiency at full load, while it always increases with break mean effective pressure (BMEP) at part load. Exhaust gas exergy proportion is more sensitive to speed, and it increases with speed increasing except at the highest speed. The lower proportion of heat transfer exergy appears at high speed and high load. Irreversible loss is mainly influenced by load. At part load, higher BMEP results in lower proportion of irreversible loss; at full load, the proportion of irreversible loss changes little except at the highest speed.展开更多

The authors studied here the effects of polymer dispersants of different molecular structure on limestone suspension properties in wet stirred media milling. The polymers differed in their molecular weight and PDI (polydispersity index). Two traditionally fractionated polymer dispersants having a high PDI (over 2) and one made by controlled radical polymerization having a low PDI (1.2) were tested. It was noticed that these dispersants worked as electrosteric stabilizers and prevented the agglomeration of ground limestone particles. Their addition allowed increased solids concentrations to be used in the grinding experiments and at the same time lowered the particle size and specific energy consumption. The particle sizes obtained were about 1 μm regardless of the dispersant or its dose. The dispersant with a low PDI reduced the viscosity more than did the high PDI dispersants. The results indicate that higher solids concentrations can be used at the same dispersant dose when a low PDI dispersant is used, leading to energy savings via increased throughput. Alternatively, a lower dose of low PDI polymer dispersant than of a high PDI polymer dispersant can be used at the same solids concentration.展开更多

Since the speed of a compressor driven by a conventional TPIM (two-phase induction motor) is fixed, it is either switched "ON", working at maximum capacity or switched "OFF" by a thermostat. While the most recent VF (variable-frequency) reluctance motor driven compressor delivers an enhanced performance over TPIM drive, it also provides variable-speed operation as the temperature changes, while improving the overall energy efficiency. This paper aimed to evaluate the performance of both TPIM and VF compressor drives for single-phase residential air-conditioning applications. Their cooling performance and harmonic distortions will be investigated. International standards for harmonic limits will also be applied in evaluating the distortions created by the VF drive.展开更多
