Based on the seismic data of near-field source from the Shandong Digital Seismic Network, this study obtained the shear-wave splitting parameters from multiple stations. The results show that dominant directions of polarizations of fast shear-waves reflect the spatial distribution characteristics of tectonic stress in this area,CHD and LIS stations show 2 dominant directions, and reveals that the crustal seismic anisotropy in the Shandong area is constrained by the regional stress background, local failure and structure. 展开更多

Recent studies by the Hong Kong Observatory show that the urban centre of Hong Kong has considerable Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect that arises from the different thermal properties between urban and the surrounding rural areas. The studies have also shown that the urban-rural temperature difference or UHI intensity in the urban centre of Hong Kong can be greater than 10℃. However, the characteristics of UHI in Hong Kong would not be unique were it not for its complex topography and the significant spatial variation in the degree of urbanization within the territory. Making use of the extensive spatial coverage of the automatic weather stations operated by the Observatory, this study attempts to document the spatial variation of the characteristics of UHI effect in Hong Kong in summer and winter through cases studies. Cases in summer and winter with meteorological conditions typical for high UHI effect (that is, clear sky, light wind and stable atmospheric condition) are selected for the study. The characteristics of UHI effect in terms of the daytime warming rates, nocturnal cooling rates and diurnal temperature ranges at the selected automatic weather stations are analysed. The territory of Hong Kong is then classified into different categories according to the identified characteristics with a view to portraying the spatial morphology of UHI effect in Hong Kong. 展开更多

Generalized Inversion Method has been used to estimate the spatial variation of site effects, using the digital data of SH-waves recorded by 63 stations in the Capital Circle Region of China from 2001 to 2006.We gained the site effects of all stations participating in the calculation. We found that the site effect of rock was stabile and about 1.0 from 1.0Hz to 10.0Hz,while the site effect of deposit was high in low frequencies, about 3 ~ 7 from 1.0Hz to 8.0Hz,and the site effect was protuberant at about 5.0Hz,then fell as the frequency increased. The result shows the shape and intensity of station site effects are mainly influenced by the lithology below the station, and possibly also by the local geological structure. 展开更多

The purpose of this research is to explore the influence of transportation revolution on local tourism development. The study area--Pull area--is a place to stop along the way to the two most popular international destinations--Sun Moon Lake and Qing-Jing Farm of Central Taiwan. Pull area once was the tourism community providing dining and accommodation facilities for the travelers heading to the two international destinations, but since the availability of National Highway 6 more efficiently connects to National Highway 1 to the public, travelers get to the two international destinations becoming easier. Pull area definitely transformed its nodal function of tourism, and further reconstructed the new spatial relationships among the travel nodes of destinations after the transportation revolution. In this research, the author termed this phenomenon of travel nodes of secondary nodes or primary nodes emerging on rapidly in tourism development after transportation revolution to "vine effect". 展开更多
