This paper examines the role of liberal pattern in the evolution of Islam in Kazakhstan based on historical and antropological analysis to call into question the state’s ongoing efforts to plant the authoritarian interpretation of Islam epitomized in the so-called Hanafi project. The notion of the Hanafi project is offered as the antithesis to classical Islamic Hanafi School, which is manipulated by the state to mask the imposition of the secular national policy in the religious domain.展开更多
