Zheng et Zhang comb. nov. is a characteristic Bennettitalean plant in Middle Jurassic flora. Only one specimen was collected from Haifanggou Formation (Middle Jurassic) in Daohugou village, Shantou town, Ningcheng County, Nei Mongol Autonomous Region, China. The stem of plant is slender and repeatedly branches as a dichasial system with a fertile shoot in the fork, forming equal and widely divergent branches, on the branches born with the fronds of Anomozamites type. Its reproductive organs consists of some microsporophylls and a few of the bracteoid small leaves (or receptacular leaves). Some scattered bracteoid leaves and microsporophylls were formerly considered by Pan as dicots. Since then, they were proposed to be a non-committal genus Pankuangia and described them as P. haifanggouensis by Kimura et al. In this study, we discover that these bracteoid small leaves and microsporophylls should be of Anomozamites. This discovery provides strong evidence for the 'Pankuangia' determination of the taxonomical position.展开更多

The heteroatom class species in crude and its fractions were characterized by the negative-ion ESI FT-ICR MS. The major emphasis was put upon the study on the O2 class species (petroleum carboxylic acids). The test results revealed that aliphatic acids and monocyclic naphthenic acids accounted for a large proportion in petroleum carboxylic acids of the Dar crude. The relative abundance of aliphatic acids and monocyclic naphthenic acids decreased with an increasing boiling point of fractions. Meanwhile, the relative abundance of bicyclic and tricyclic naphthenic acids increased at first and then decreased, whereas the relative abundance of petroleum carboxylic acids with higher double-bond equivalence (DBE) values increased. The high abundance of aliphatic acids in the Dar crude and its fractions covered the carbon numbers in a range of 16 to 18 which had important geochemical signifi- cance. The O2 class species were distributed in a broad range of DBE values and carbon numbers with increasing boiling points of fractions.展开更多

The results showed that the average of Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H') in the study area was 3.17. The higher values were distributed in the east part of Shandong coastal waters and north part of Jiangsu coastal waters, while the lower values were distributed in the southern Yellow Sea Cold Water Mass (YSCWM). The average of taxonomic diversity (A) was 62.09 in the study region. The higher values were distributed in the transitional areas between the coastal areas and the southem YSCWM, while the lower values were distributed near the north part of Jiangsu coastal waters and the YSCWM. Results of correlation analysis of species diversity and taxonomic diversity showed that some of the two kinds of diversity index were inde- pendent, which suggested that combining the two kinds of diversity indices can reflect the ecological characteristics better. A test for 95% probability funnels of average taxonomic distinctness and variation in taxonomic distinctness suggested that Station 8794 (in the YSCWM) was outside of the 95% probability funnels, which may be due to the environmental stress. Results of correlation analysis between marine nematodes biodiversity and environmental variables showed that the sediment characteristics (Mdo and Silt-clay fraction) and phaeophorbide a (Pha-a) were the most important factors to determine the biodiversity patterns of marine nematodes.展开更多

The over-use of broad-spectrum chemical insecticides has been cited as a major cause of outbreaks of C. medinalis as excessive spraying of insecticide disrupts natural biological control insecticides still remain the major control tactics against leaf folder. Carbofuran and fenthion, bendiocarb, acephate, carbosulfan, quinolphos, monocrotophos, phosphamidon and fenvalerate are the common ones used against rice leaf folder. Genetically, modified rice lines expressing B. thuringiensis insecticidal crystal proteins produced are highly tolerant to leidopteran pests. Though economic and environmental benefits of GM crops is well established, the matter of concern is the possibility of target insect pest developing resistance to this B. thuringiensis insecticidal toxins, evident from many laboratory and field experiments against many insect pests. The involvement of GSH S-transferase, carboxylesterase, and microsomal monooxygenase in insecticide resistance has been reported in insecticide-resistant strains of many insect species. Hence, the present study was taken up to monitor for cross resistance between B. thuringiensis cry toxins and synthetic insecticides in larvae of leaf folder as it is mediated by carboxylesterase titre and other enzymes by bioassay for two selected rice leaf folder field populations at the Entomology division of Directorate of Rice Research which showed 2-fold resistance ratio. Qualitative and quantitative changes of carboxylesterase (CarE) and glutathione-s-transferase (GST's) were worked out with midguts extracts of the two C. medinalis populations in the presence of a-napthyl acetate and chlorodi-nitro benzene substrates.展开更多

Here a systematic archaeobotanical study was conducted to investigate vegetation landscape, environmental characteristics and rice agriculture in the prehistoric northern Taihu Lake area. The abundance, frequency and standard density of charred rice were the highest of all of the remains of the seed plants unearthed. In addition, a variety of wetland weeds, such as Haloragaceae, Cyperaceae, Carex sp., and Oxalis corniculata, were found. Pollen and phytoliths recorded that the evergreen-deciduous broadleaf mixed forest(represented by Quercus and Castanopsis) tends to decrease, while Poaceae was the most significant of the terrestrial herbs, water area expanded and water activities strengthened, indicating generally warm and humid conditions at the Yangjia Site during the late Majiabang Culture. All indicators of pollen, phytolith and macro-plant remains suggest that wild rice should be once distributed at or around the site before human occupation, after which rice agriculture progressed rapidly during the late Majiabang Culture.展开更多
