They usually contain considerable quantities of valuable metals and materials. Transforming these solid wastes from one form to another to be reused either by the same production unit or by different industrial installation is very much essential not only for conserving metals and mineral resources but also for protecting the environment. The sustainable development concept requires a more efficient management of waste materials and preservation of environment. The paper presents the basic characteristics of slag, analyses and it's modification by incorporating some essential plant nutrients and the possibility of its application as fertilizer was studied.展开更多

MQL (Minimum Quantity Lubricant) has become a preciously alternative solution for lubrication against dry machinning and flood cooling lubricant, and this is a step toward green machining. This paper presents a comprehensively experiemental study on investigation of MQL performance in hard milling of S60C steel for multiple responses, including surface quality, cutting forces and tool wear. Compared to dry milling, even-enhanced surfaces finish quality, 20% less cutting force (Ft) and almost 112% prolonged tool lifetime are achieved by using MQL with 5% Emulsion in hard milling. In addition, this study compared the performances of MQL milling by using 5% Emulsion to the peanut oil completely harmless to the enviroment. This encouraging result, therefore, reveals that the MQL-employed hard milling can enable significant improvement in productivity, product quality, and overall machining economy even after covering the additional cost of designing and implementing MQL system. Moreover, this study also shows the limitation of peanut oils employed in MQL and proposes the further research in novel additives to enhance the performance of cooling lubricant for vegetable oils.展开更多

The effectiveness of steel slag powder on suppressing alkali aggregate reaction(AAR) expansion was assessed using the method of ASTM C441 and accelerated test method. Experimental results show that mechanical properties can be improved further due to the synergistic effect and mutual activation when compound mineral admixtures with steel slag powder and blast-furnace slag powder are mixed into concrete. In addition, about 50% decrease in expansion rate of mortar bars with mineral admixtures can be achieved in AAR tests. Mineral admixtures with steel slag powder as partial replacement for Portland cement in concrete is an effective means for controlling expansion due to AAR.展开更多

The experimental work was carried out in a 400 mm diameter agitated vessel that was fitted with four planes, 16 stainless steel electrodes. Agitation was carried out using the Lightnin Labmaster and Rushton turbine while conductivity data acquisition was carried out using the ITS P2000 ERT system. A Mathlab code was developed to construct a surface plot for gas hold-up from the ERT data. Various gas dispersion conditions such as flooded, loaded and fully dispersed were successfully characterized using the ERT technique.展开更多

An adaptive cascade stochastic resonance (ACSR) is proposed in the present study. The proposed method introduces correlation theory into SR, and uses correlation coefficient of the input signals and noise as a weight to construct the weighted signal-to-noise ratio (WSNR) index. The influence of high frequency noise is alleviated and the signal-to-noise ratio index used in traditional SR is improved accordingly. The ACSR with WSNR can obtain optimal parameters adaptively. And it is not necessary to predict the exact frequency of the target signal. In addition, through the secondary utilization of noise, ACSR makes the signal output waveforrn smoother and the fluctuation period more obvious. Simulation example and engineering application of gearbox fault diagnosis demonstrate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed method.展开更多
