The results indicate that the microstructural evolution includes two stages: the first stage involves rapid dissolution of eutectic β (Mg 17 Al 12 ) phase, homogenization and coarsening, and the second stage is regarded as normal grain growth consisting of primary α-Mg particles (primary particles) and secondary α-Mg grains (secondary grains). In the first stage, the dissolution completes in a quite short time because the fine β phase can quickly dissolve into the small-sized secondary grains. The homogenization of Al element needs relatively long time. Simultaneously, the microstructure morphology and average grain size obviously change. The first stage sustains approximately 1 h when it is solutionized at 395 ℃ Comparatively, the second stage needs very long time and the microstructure evolves quite slowly as a result of low Al content gradient and thus low diffusivity of Al element after the homogenization of the first stage. The growth model of primary particles obeys power function while that of the secondary grains follows the traditional growth equation in the first stage. In the second stage, both of the primary particles and secondary grains behave a same model controlled by diffusion along grain boundaries and through crystal lattice.展开更多

New ones will be published. An integrated management system (IMS) aims to integrate some or all components of the business into one coherent and efficient MS. Maximizing integration is more and more a strategic priority in that it constitutes an opportunity to eliminate and/or reduce potential factors of destruction of value for the organizations and also to be more competitive and consequently promote its sustainable success. A preliminary investigation was conducted on a Portuguese industrial company which, over the years, has been adopting gradually, in whole or in part, individualized management system standards (MSSs). A research, through a questionnaire, was performed with the objective to develop, in a real business environment, an adequate and efficient IMS-QES (quality, environment, and safety) model and to potentiate for the future a generic IMS model to integrate other MSSs. The strategy and research methods have taken into consideration the case study. It was obtained a set of relevant conclusions resulting from the statistical analyses of the responses to the survey. Globally, the investigation results, by themselves, justified and prioritized the conception of a model of development of the IMS-QES and consequent definition and validation of a structure of an IMS-QES model, to be implemented at the small- and medium-sized enterprise (SME) where the investigation was conducted.展开更多

Even though all vessels are equipped with modern navigation devices, the accidents are reported caused by various reasons and mainly by human factor according to investigation. We propose an effective and efficient composition collision risk calculation method for finding the collision probability and avoiding the collision between ships in possible collision situations. The proposed composition collision risk calculation method at ship's position using combination of fuzzy and fuzzy comprehensive evaluation methods. The algorithm is straightforward to implement and is shown to be effective in automatic ship handling for ships involved in complex navigation situations. Experiments are carried out with indigenous data and the results show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.展开更多
Objective: We enrolled retrospective data to determine the efficacy of combined chemotherapy and surgery for local tumour control and survival in patients with high-risk soft-tissue sarcomas. Methods: We collected d...Objective: We enrolled retrospective data to determine the efficacy of combined chemotherapy and surgery for local tumour control and survival in patients with high-risk soft-tissue sarcomas. Methods: We collected data from 25 patients with high-risk soft-tissue sarcomas treated with four cycles of etoposide, ifosfamide and doxorubicin (EIA) followed by definitive surgery with or without postoperative radiotherapy and adjuvant chemotherapy. 21 patients received chemotherapy in a neoadjuvant/adjuvant clinical setting; eighteen of them completed adjuvant chemotherapy. Four patients received chemotherapy in an adjuvant setting only. Results: The objective response rate of neoadjuvant chemotherapy assessable in 21 patients was 43%. Including NED (n=7) and partial remissions (n=3), the radiographic response rate was 47.6% with additional 42.9% stable diseases (n=9). Surgery was performed in two patients before completing four neoadjuvant chemotherapy cycles because of disease progression. Median overall survival for all patients was 21.6+ months. After completion of chemotherapy, in 62% of patients R0-resection could be performed. Conclusion: High proportion of R0-resections supports the idea of tumour down-staging after neoadjuvant treatment. Response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy is predictive for improved local tumour control resulting in long-term survival benefit.展开更多

A computational scheme is developed to simulate a proton attached to an atom. The numerical results show that large changes in both one- and two-photon absorption properties are observed when the compound is transformed from neutral to threefold protonated states. When the compound is protonated, more charge transfer states appear and the absorption band has a red-shift. Furthermore, the two-photon absorption cross-section is largely enhanced. The theoretical calculations demonstrate the protonation effect on promoting the intramolecular charge transfer strength. The results present qualitative agreement with the experimental observations. A two-photon absorption switch with the compound TA based on the protonation effect is proposed.展开更多

The experimental results showed that A...The AI-AIN-Si composites were prepared in the gas-in-liquid in situ synthesized flow-reaction-system, which was implemented by a powder metallurgy and reaction sin- tering route. The experimental results showed that A1-AIN- 50SiB material (prepared by ball-milling powders) and AI- AIN-50SiM material (prepared by mixing powders) exhibited the semi-continuous Si structures and the isolated Si islands, respectively. Subsequently, the AI-AIN-50Si materials were selected as the model materials by phase identification and microstructure analysis. The dynamic microstructural evolu- tion of AI-AIN-50Si materials was investigated using the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method. Mathematical models and simulation results showed that the in situ synthesis of AIN was strongly influenced by the structure and the flow- path ((Cg,N2/lg,N2)+(Cs,AlN/ls,AiN)). The flow paths of AI-AIN-50Si^B material were restricted by the semi-continuous Si. These Si structures can promote the formation of the strong turbulence with gradually weakened fluctuation, so that the in situ synthesis of AIN was interconnected and surrounded by an interpenetrating Si network. In contrast, the flow paths of AI- AIN-50Si^B material can easily pass through the isolated Si due to its mild turbulence with linear relationship. As a result, AIN was separated by the isolated Si and agglomerated in the matrix. Overall, the present work provides new insights into dynamic microstructural evolution in in situ reaction sinter- ing systems.展开更多

We propose the finite element model of GMM smart component in electric, magnetic, and mechanical fields by step computation to optimize the design of GMM smart com-ponent. The proposed model is implemented by using COMSOL multi-physics V3.2a. The effects of the smart component on the deformation and the system resonance frequencies are studied. The results calculated by the model are in excellent agreement (relative errors are below 10%) with the experimental values.展开更多
