Mg-Li-Gd alloys were prepared by electrochemical codeposition from LiCl-KCl-MgCl 2 -Gd 2 O 3 melts on molybdenum electrode with constant current density at 823 and 973 K. The microstructure of the Mg-Li-Gd alloys was analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), optical microscopy (OM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results show that magnesium and gadolinium deposit mainly in the first 30 min, and the alloy obtained contains 96.53% Mg, 0.27% Li and 3.20% Gd (mass fraction). Then, the reduction of lithium ions occurs quickly. The composition of alloy can be adjusted by controlling electrolysis time or Gd 2 O 3 concentration in LiCl-KCl melts. With the addition of Gd into Mg-Li alloys, the corrosion resistance of the alloys is enhanced. XRD results suggest that Mg 3 Gd and Mg 2 Gd can be formed in Mg-Li-Gd alloys. The distribution of Gd element in Mg-Li-Gd alloys indicates that Gd element mainly distributes at the grain boundaries of Mg-Li-Gd alloys. 展开更多

The structure of the quaternary Al?(2?4)wt.%Ca?Ni?La system near the aluminum corner has been studied using computational analysis in the Thermo-Calc program and experimental studies(electron microscopy,microprobe analysis and X-ray diffraction).Based on the phase equilibria data obtained,the experimental projection of the liquidus surface and solid state phase-field distribution of the Al?Ca?Ni?La system have been proposed.Microstructure studies reveal that the alloys with the 2?4 wt.%Ca,2?4 wt.%Ni and 1?3 wt.%La ranges have an ultra-fine hypoeutectic structure with 30%volume fraction of eutectic intermetallics,which allows one to classify these alloys as natural Al-matrix composites.The ultra-fine eutectic structure produces significant strengthening,the magnitude of which can be well described using the modified Orowan looping mechanism model.Small additives of Zr and Sc(0.2 and 0.1 wt.%,respectively)lead to significant strengthening(by^25%)due to the formation of L12 type phase(Al3(Zr,Sc))nanoparticles during annealing of the alloy at 350?400℃.Due to the high volume fraction of eutectic intermetallics,the new alloys have low coefficients of thermal expansion and high thermal stability of the structure and mechanical properties. 展开更多

To study the effects of La on the microstructure and mechanical properties of refractory high entropy alloys,NbMoTiVSi0.2 alloys with different La contents were prepared.Phase constitution,microstructure evolution,compressive properties and related mechanisms were systematically studied.Results show that the alloys with La addition are composed of BCC solid solution,eutectic structure,MSi2 disilicide phase and La-containing precipitates.Eutectic structure and most of La precipitates are formed at the grain boundaries.Disilicide phase is formed in the grains.La can change the grain morphologies from dendritic structure to near-equiaxed structure,and the average grain size decreases from 180 to 20μm with the increase of La content from 0 to 0.5 at.%.Compressive testing shows that the ultimate strength and the yield strength increase with the increase of La content,which is resulted from the grain boundary strengthening.However,they cannot be greatly improved because of the formation of MSi2 disilicide phase with low strength.The ductility decreases with the increase of La content,which is due to the La precipitates and brittle MSi2 disilicide phase. 展开更多

Hot compression was performed on a multilayered Au−20Sn eutectic alloy to investigate the deformation behavior and microstructure evolution.During hot compression,microstructural spheroidization was initiated from plastic instability regions,and it was preferentially activated in vertical lamellae with a growth direction parallel to the compressive direction.Continuous dynamic recrystallization associated with lattice dislocations was the mechanism in both AuSn and Au5Sn multilayers.After spheroidization,strain accumulations were weakened in both of the equiaxed phases,and the deformation mechanism was substantially replaced by grain boundary sliding and migration.Based on these findings,hot rolling was conducted on an as-cast Au−20Sn alloy and a foil with a thickness of~50μm was successfully prepared.The present study can promote the development of Au−20Sn foils,and provide insights into the deformation behavior and microstructure evolution of multilayered eutectic alloys. 展开更多

The microstructural evolution during directional solidification of the Ni-25%Al(mole fraction) alloy was investigated in the range of growth velocity from 10 to 100 μm/s under a given thermal gradient of 10 K/mm. The solidification microstructures reveal a transition from γ'-β equilibrium eutectic to γ-β metastable eutectic plus β dendrites. A mixed microstructure of γ'-β and γ-β eutectics produced at a growth velocity of 25 μm/s illustrates that the transition occurs during the competitive growth between γ and γ' phases. The growth temperature for each phase was considered to understand the microstructure selection during solidification. The experimental results show that a phase or a microstructure solidifying with the highest temperature under a given growth condition is preferentially selected upon solidification. In addition, both stable eutectic and metastable eutectic are shown to coexist and simultaneously grow in the velocity range between 25 and 60 μm/s due to their similar growth temperatures. 展开更多

Cu2S film onto FTO glass substrate was obtained to function as counter electrode for polysulfide redox reactions in CdS/CdSe co-sensitized solar cells by sintering after spraying a metal chalcogenide complex, N4H9Cu7S4 solution. Relative to Pt counter electrode, the Cu2S counter electrode provides greater electrocatalytic activity and lower charge transfer resistance. The pre- pared CuzS counter electrode represented nanoflower-like porous film which was composed of Cu2S nanosheets on FTO and had a higher surface area and lower sheet resistance than that of sulfided brass Cu2S counter electrode. An energy conversion efficiency of 3.62% was achieved using the metal chalcogenide complex-mediated fabricated Cu2S counter electrode for CdS/CdSe co-sensitized solar cells under 1 sun, AM 1.5 illumination. 展开更多
