Pre-compression and heat treatment were performed on an extruded AZ31 Mg alloy,and their effects on subsequent deformation behavior were investigated.The results show that at low temperature annealing(170 ℃ for 4 h),the extruded samples with and without annealing exhibit a nearly equivalent yield stress(~148 MPa) because their microstructures are nearly unchanged.However,under the same annealing condition,the yield stress of sample with pre-twinning and subsequent annealing(~225 MPa) is higher than that of the pre-twinned one(~200 MPa).The former sample presents a hardening effect because the solute atoms segregated on twin boundaries lead to a strengthening effect.The pre-twinned sample annealed at 400 ℃ for 1 h shows a higher ultimate elongation(~28%) than the pre-twinned one(~15%),but its yield stress(~125 MPa) is much lower than that of the pre-twinned one(~200 MPa). 展开更多

In order to investigate the influences of the stoichiometric ratio of La/Mg (increasing La and decreasing Mg on the same mole ratio) on the structure and electrochemical performances of the La-Mg-Ni-based A2B7-type electrode alloy, the as-cast and the annealed ternary Lao.8+xMgo.2_xNi3.5 (x=0-0.05) electrode alloys were prepared. The characterization of electrode alloys by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) shows that all the as-cast and the annealed alloys hold two major phases of (La,Mg)2Ni7 and LaNi5 as well as a residual phase of LaNi3. Moreover, the increase of La/Mg ratio brings on a decline of (La,Mg)2Ni7 phase and a rise of LaNi5 and LaNi3 phases. The variation of La/Mg ratio gives rise to an evident change of the electrochemical performances of the alloys. The discharge capacities of the as-cast and the annealed alloys evidently decrease with growing the La/Mg ratio, while the cycle stabilities of the alloys visibly augment under the same condition. Furthermore, the high rate discharge ability (HRD), the electrochemical impedance spectrum (EIS), the Tafel polarization curves, and the potential step measurements all indicate that the electrochemical kinetic properties of the alloy electrodes increase with the La/Mg ratio rising. 展开更多

A continuous and dens... Al-FeCoNiCrAl high entropy alloy(HEA) composite coatings were prepared on Ti-6Al-4V via highenergy mechanical alloying(MA). The microstructures and phase composition of the coatings were studied. A continuous and dense coating could be fabricated at a ratio of 35%(weight fraction)Al-FeCoNiCrAl after 4 h milling.The results showed that the thickness of the composite coatings increased first and then decreased with the increase of milling time. And the hardness of coating increased with the increase of milling time. The phase changed during the annealing process. Part of the initial body-centered cubic(BCC)phase of the composite coatings changed into the L12 phase,(Ni,Co)3Al4 and σ phase after annealing above 550 ℃. Ordered BCC was found in the coatings after annealing above 750 ℃. Only BCC and ordered BCC appeared in coatings after annealing above 1 050 ℃. The hardness of the coatings after annealing at 550 ℃ and 750 ℃ was higher than before because of spinodal decomposition and high hardness σ phase. The hardness of the coatings after annealing at 1 050 ℃ decreased because residual stress released. 展开更多

AA8079 is a commonly used stock material for manufacturing thin packaging foils.The primary alloying elements Fe and Si can form binary and tertiary intermetallics.In-situ TEM simulating homogenization annealing process of the as-cast material was used to analyze the real-time changes of the shape,type,and distribution of these particles.They affect the mechanical properties of the final product and susceptibility of the material to the formation of pinholes and other macroscopic defects.Another set of as-cast samples were annealed in a regime simulating industrial treatment in combination with measurements of resistivity to validate the results of the in-situ experiment.The results show clear temperature intervals of recovery,matrix desaturation,and phase transformations occurring in several stages:spheroidization of the original particles above 450℃,nucleation of new particles at 475℃,particles coarsening above 525℃,and an entire dissolution of the original particles above 550℃. 展开更多

Gas-atomized pure metal or alloy powders are widely used as raw material in the preparation of high performance materials by powder metallurgy route(compaction and sintering). However, cold compactibility of gas-atomized Al-Si alloy powder is inhibited due to the high strength as a result of the refined Si phases and the supersaturated Al matrix. The effect of annealing on improving the compactibility of Al-Si alloy powder was studied. The densification was investigated by the HECKEL compaction equation in terms of deformation capacity. Moreover, the microstructures and bending fracture surfaces of the green compacts were examined to clarify the densification behavior. The results show that a maximum relative density of 96.1% is obtained when the powder is annealed at 400 °C. The deformation capacity is significantly improved by annealing treatment due to the softening of Al matrix, precipitation of supersaturated Si phases, dissolution of needle-like eutectic phase, and spheroidization of Si phases. 展开更多

The microstructure evolution and mechanical properties of the as-deposited γ-TiAl-based alloy specimen fabricated via laser melting deposition and as-annealed specimens at different temperatures were investigated.The results show that the microstructure of as-deposited specimen is composed of fineα2(Ti3Al)+γlamellae.With the increase of annealing temperature,the bulk γ m(TiAl)phase gradually changes from single γ phase toγphase+acicularα2 phase,finally small γ phase+lamellar α2+γ phase.Compared with the mechanical properties of as-depositedγ-TiAl alloy(tensile strength 469 MPa,elongation 1.1%),after annealing at 1260℃ for 30 min followed by furnace cooling(FC),the room-temperature tensile strength of the specimen is 543.4 MPa and the elongation is 3.7%,which are obviously improved. 展开更多

The La-Mg-Ni-based A2B7-type La0.5Mg0.2Ni3.3Co0.2Six (x=0-0.2) electrode alloys were prepared by casting and annealing. The influences of the additional silicon and the annealing treatment on the structure and electrochemical performances of the alloys were investigated systemically. Both of the analyses of XRD and SEM reveal that the as-cast and annealed alloys are of a multiphase structure, involving two main phases (La, Mg)2Ni7 and LaNi5 as well as one minor phase LaNi3. The addition of Si and annealing treatment bring on an evident change in the phase abundances and cell parameters of (La, Mg)2Ni7 and LaNi5 phase for the alloy without altering its phase structure. The phase abundances decrease from 74.3% (x=0) to 57.8% (x=0.2) for the (La, Mg)2Ni7 phase, and those of LaNi5 phase increase from 20.2% (x^0) to 37.3% (x=0.2). As for the electrochemical measurements, adding Si and performing annealing treatment have engendered obvious impacts. The cycle stability of the alloys is improved dramatically, being enhanced from 80.3% to 93.7% for the as-annealed (950 ℃) alloys with Si content increasing from 0 to 0.2. However, the discharge capacity is reduced by adding Si, from 399.4 to 345.3 mA.h/g as the Si content increases from 0 to 0.2. Furthermore, such addition makes the electrochemical kinetic properties of the alloy electrodes first increase and then decrease. Also, it is found that the overall electrochemical properties of the alloys first augment and then fall with the annealing temperature rising. 展开更多

The annealing tests heated by pulsed current(PC)or furnace for AZ31B magnesium sheets were carried out,and the effects of PC on the microstructure and dislocation density of the alloy were analyzed.The results show that PC strengthens the migration of boundaries,and then the twin grains,most of which distribute in the coarse grains,“spheroidize”to equiaxed grains,thus separating the coarse grains and refining the microstructure.This process homogenizes the initial microstructure and eliminate the typically lamellar twin grains.Moreover,PC also strengthens the dislocation annihilation.When the specimens were annealed by PC at 300℃for 4 min,the dislocation density was even lower than that annealed by furnaces at 400℃for 3 h before deformation.Furthermore,dislocation annihilation is enhanced with the increase of peak current density and the decrease of pulsed frequency. 展开更多

An A1-5.8Mg-0.4Mn-0.35(Sc+Zr) (mass fraction, %) alloy sheet was prepared using water chilling copper mould ingot metallurgy processing which was protected by active flux. The influence of stabilizing annealing on mechanical properties and microstructure of the cold rolling sheet was studied. The results show that the strength and hardness of the alloy decrease, while the elongation increases with increasing the stabilizing annealing temperature. With the increase of stabilizing annealing time, the strength and hardness of the alloy drop slightly but its ductility exhibits no change. Partial recovery and recrystallization orderly occur with the increase of annealing temperature during stabilizing treatment. Only different degrees of recovery occur in the alloys annealed below 400 ℃ for 1 h. Partial recrystallization occurs after annealed at 450 ℃ for 1 h. By annealing at 300 ℃ for 1 h, the alloy can obtain the optimum application values of δb, δ0.2 and δ, which are 436 MPa, 327 MPa and 16.7%, respectively. 展开更多

The changes in hardness, microhardness, electrical conductivity and microstructure of the sintered Cu-4%Au (mole fraction) alloy during thermomechanical treatment were studied. Following the primary strain hardening, an annealing of rolled alloy in the temperature range of 60-350 ℃ provided additional strengthening due to the anneal hardening effect. An increase in properties took place in two stages, and the best combination of properties was achieved in the alloy pre-rolled with 40% reduction after annealing at 260 ℃. Significant microstructural changes followed the changes of properties in the course of the thermomechanical treatment. 展开更多

Niobium boride powders having NbB, NbB2 and Nb3B4 phases in various amounts and single phase NbB powders were successfully synthesized by using powder metallurgy methods from related metal oxide raw materials in the presence of a strong reducing agent. Nb2O5, B2O3 and Mg powder blends were milled at room temperature by a high-energy ball mill for different time. Subsequently, undesired MgO phase was removed from the milled powders by HCl leaching to constitute NbB?NbB2?Nb3B4 as final products and they were subjected to an annealing process at 1500 °C for 4 h to observe probable boride transformation. Characterization was carried out by XRD, DSC, PSA, SEM/EDX, TEM and VSM. The effects of milling time (up to 9 h) on the formation, microstructure and thermal behavior of the final products were investigated. Reduction reaction took place after milling stoichiometric powder blends for 2 h. Nano-sized NbB?NbB2?Nb3B4 powders in high purity were obtained in the absence of any secondary phase and any impurity via mechanochemistry by milling for 5 h and leaching with 4 mol/L HCl. After annealing, pure and nano-sized NbB?NbB2?Nb3B4 powders transformed to a single NbB phase without leaving behind NbB2 and Nb3B4 phases. 展开更多

Effect of predeformation on globularization of Ti-5Al-2Sn-2Zr-4Mo-4Cr during annealing

The microstructure evolution during annealing of Ti-5Al-2Sn-2Zr-4Mo-4Cr alloy was investigated. The results show that for the alloy compressed at 810 °C and 1.0 s^-1, deformation amount(height reduction) 20% and 50% and annealed at 810 °C, thermal grooving by penetration of β phase is sufficient during the first 20 min annealing, resulting in a sharp increase in globularization fraction. The globularization fraction continuously increases with the increase of annealing time, and a height reduction of 50% leads to a near globular microstructure after annealing for 4 h. For the alloy with deformation amount of 50% by compressing at 810 °C, 0.01 s^-1, and then annealed at 810 °C, thermal grooving is limited during the first 20 min of annealing and large quantities of high-angle grain boundaries(HABs) remain. With long time annealing, the chain-like α grains are developed due to the HABs, termination migration and Ostwald ripening. The present results suggest that a higher strain rate and a larger height reduction are necessary before annealing to achieve a globular microstructure of Ti-5Al-2Sn-2Zr-4Mo-4Cr. 展开更多
