Our...REE (Rare Earth Element) signatures in fossil vertebrates from different stratigraphic units are sufficiently distinctive to allow identification of the original unit or location in which fossilization occurred. Our field studies at the classic Pleistocene site of Fossil Lake, Oregon, reveal at least nine exposed depositional packages, most separated by disconformities. Bones analyzed from eight of the defined packages have distinctly different REE signatures. By accruing an extensive REE data library, samples with nebulous origin can be compared to this data library to determine the best stratigraphic context of the fossil. The research involves an articulated horse from the Ferruginous Sandstone unit at Fossil Lake. This unit shows subtle lithological changes which may indicate differences in depositional environment. The recovered specimen transected these subtle variations of this unit. Since REE reflect depositional environment this specimen offers a unique opportunity to investigate the possible variations in a signature due to subtle changes in lithology. This was accomplished by collecting bone and sediment material from 1 cm increments. By relating subtle changes in lithology to possible variations in REE signature, this study will offer a better resolution for application of REE signatures to Paleoenvironmental interpretations, fossil provenience and stratigraphic correlation.展开更多

However, for most routing schemes in this paradigm, when a node joins or leaves, large numbers of nodes, even the whole topology, need to be re-embedded, and a great number of contents need to be re-registered. In this paper, we propose D-Griffin, a geometric routing scheme on flat names for dynamic topologies. D-Griffin provides two advantages. First, it avoids re-embedding the topology by using an online greedy embedding scheme and a void handling greedy forwarding scheme. Second, it decreases the number of re-registrations by using a name mapping scheme with a tradeoff between topology independence and load balancing. Theoretical and experimental analyses show that D-Griffin provides guaranteed content lookup, low description complexity, low path stretch, scalable routing update, and acceptable load balancing.展开更多

Based on a study of the cotton sector, this article examines the effects of adopting PA with regard to international trade. We examine whether PA can contribute to the further destabilization of the terms of trade between countries in Central and West Africa (CWA) and Northern countries. We show that PA can be used by Northern countries at the expense of CWA, since it is used to implement strategic commercial policies based on subsidies. These policies are made more credible by the fact that international authorities cannot easily condemn them.展开更多

This paper attempts to explore the generation of nominalization from a comprehensive point of view, to distinguish between "primary nominalization" and "ideological nominalization", to trace the root of primary nominalization, and to analyze the use of primary nominalization in poetry. Based on these analyses, this paper points out that primary nominalization in poetry is more consonant with the Green grammar, with the undivided, holistic ecological worldview and has ecological significance. However, the ideological nominalization in some other nonliterary formal style is an obstacle to the solution to environment problem, and so we should understand the function of nominalization with its contexts and pay more attention to poetic language.展开更多

As climate change will have serious effects on the social and economic development and everyday, living of people in the world, many of the countries and governments are taking untiring efforts to combat climate change. As one of the important mechanisms of reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the Kyoto Protocol, Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) has not only provided chance for developed countries to fulfill greenhouse emission reduction obligations, but also provided an opportunity for developing countries to combat climate change under the sustainable development frame. The dual objectives of developed countries' GHG emissions' reduction obligation achievement and developing cotmtries'sustainable development will be achieved under the CDM. As a country with responsibility; China has been positively developing CDM projects and promoting energy saving and emissions reduction during the three yeors after the Kyoto Protocol came into force, and CDM projects development has always been in the front tank in the world. However; as the vast clime within China, notable differences occur in different regions. In order to promote the CDM development in China, it is necessa^T to have regional CDM capability construction in accordance with the practicality in different regions. Based on the Slat Analysis of developed CDM projects and current CDM development status in China, problems in the CDM development of China, including the inefficiency in small and medium-sized CDM Projects' development, over centralization of CDM development scope and especially the differentiated provincial CDM projects developing capability are pointed out in the paper: What's more, reasons for the problems are analyzed from fire leading.factors, including policy orient, information asymmetry and weak CDM capability, In order to promote CDM projects development in China, a new CDM capability, construction model is put forward in the paper.展开更多
