[Objective] The aim was to explore effects of application postponing of N fertilizer and the mechanism of yield increase in order to provide references for N fertilizer application in a rational way. [Method] In a super-high yielded region of summer maize, field experiment was conducted to research effects of N fertilizer postponing on key enzymes of N metabolism, yield of maize and N fertilizer use. [Result] After application of N fertilizer was postponed, NR, SPS and GS activities of ear-leaf of summer maize increased by 11.99%-34.87%, 8.25%-10.64% and 10.00%- 16.81% on the 28^th d of silking; content of soluble sugar in leaves enhanced signifi- cantly and accumulated nitrogen increased by 5.00%-9.74% in mature stage. The postponing fertilization of "30% of fertilizer in seedling stage+30% of fertilizer in flare- opening stage+40% of fertilizer in silking stage meets N demands of summer maize in late growth period. Compared with conventional fertilization, the maize yield, agro- nomic efficiency and use of N fertilizer all improved by 5.05%, 1.75 kg/kg and 6.87%, respectively, after application postponed. [Conclusion] Application postponing of N fertilizer maintains activity of NR, GS and SPS higher and coordinates metabolism of C and N in late growth period, to further improve yield of maize.展开更多

The hysteresis of pressure drop and the variance of radial liquid distribution were observed simultaneously. Residence time distribution (RTD), holdup and mean residence time (RT) of liquid phase were also found to demonstrate hysteresis of the same nature. RTD, liquid holdup and mean RT calculated with a simple model from the distribution of liquid flow rate show characteristics consistant with the experimental data, suggesting that the hyteretic phenomena originate from the multiplicity and nonuniformity of liquid flow distribution.展开更多
AIM: To study the practical use of the model for endstage liver disease (MELD) on clinic and assess its validity by the concordance (C)-statistic in predicting the prognosis of the patient with severe viral hepatitis....AIM: To study the practical use of the model for endstage liver disease (MELD) on clinic and assess its validity by the concordance (C)-statistic in predicting the prognosis of the patient with severe viral hepatitis.METHODS: One hundred and twenty-one patients were divided into plasma exchange group and non-plasma exchange group, and were graded with MELD formula.The death rate was observed within 3 mo.RESULTS: Eighty-one patients died within 3 mo (35 cases in PE group, 46 cases in non-PE group). The mortality of patients in PE group whose MELD score between 20-30and 30-40 were 31.6% and 57.7%, respectively, but in non-PE cases they were 67.6%, 81.3% respectively.There was significant difference between PE group and non-PE group (P<0.05). However, the mortality of patients whose MELD score higher than 40 were 93.3% in PE group and 100% in non-PE group and there was no significant difference between the two groups (P= 0.65>0.05). The optimal cut-off values of MELD to predict the prognosis of patients were 30 in PE group whose sensitivity, specificity and C-statistic were 80.0%, 52.0% and 0.777, but in non-PE group they were 25, 82.6%, 86.7% and 0.869, respectively.CONCLUSION: The MELD score can act as a disease severity index for patients with severe viral hepatitis, and the mortality of the patient increases with the increase of the MELD score. The MELD can accurately predict the short-term prognosis of patients with severe viral hepatitis.展开更多

METHODS: Forty-one gallbladder carcinoma, 7 gallbladder adenoma and 14 chronic cholecystitis specimens were immunohistochemically and histopathologically investigated for the relation of cyclin D1, p16 and Rb with Nevin staging and pathologic grading. RESULTS: The expression rates of abnormal cyclin Dl in gallbladder carcinoma (68.3%)and gallbladder adenoma (57.1%) were significantly higher than those in chronic cholecystitis (7.1%) (P<0.05). No significant difference was found both among the pathological grades G1, G2 and G3 and among Nevin stagings S1-S2, S3 and S4-S5 of gallbladder carcinoma. The positive rates of p16 (48.8%) and Rb (58.5%) in gallbladder carcinoma were significantly lower compared to those in adenoma (100.0%) and cholecystitis (100.0%) (P<0.05). The positive rates of p16 and Rb in Nevin stagings S1-S2 (80.0% and 90.0%) and S3 (46.2% and 61.5%) gallbladder carcinomas were significantly higher than those in S4-S5(33.3% and 38.8%) (P<0.05), and those in pathologic grades G1(54.5% and 81.8%) and G2 (50.0% and 62.5%) gallbladder carcinoma were significantly higher than those in G3 (28.6% and 35.7%) (P<0.05). The protein expression of p16 and Rb had a negative-correlation in gallbladder carcinoma (r= -0.2993, P<0.05), and this negative-correlation was correlated with Nevin staging (P<0.05). Moreover, the protein expression of p16 and cyclin Dl had a negative-correlation in gallbladder carcinoma (r = -0.9417, P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Cyclin Dl may play a role in the early stage of gallbladder carcinoma. Mutation of p16 and Rb genes might be correlated with progression of gallbladder carcinoma. Analysis of p16 and Rb can estimate the prognosis of gallbladder carcinoma. Expression of p16 and Rb may be correlated with Nevin staging and pathologic grading in gallbladder carcinoma.展开更多

METHODS: The model of H/R injury was established in gastric epithelial cell line (GES-1) human gastric epithelial cells. Cells were divided into seven groups: normal control group (N); H/R postconditioning group; DMSO postconditioning group (DM); ghrelin postconditioning group (GH); D-Lys3-GHRP-6 + ghrelin postconditioning group (D + GH); capsazepine + ghrelin postconditioning group (C + GH); and LY294002 + ghrelin postconditioning group (L + GH). 3-(4,5-dimethylthazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay was used to detect GES-1 cell viability. Hoechst 33258 fluorochrome staining and flow cytometry were conducted to determine apoptosis of GES-1cells. Spectrophotometry was performed to determine release of lactate dehydrogenate (LDH). Protein expression of Bcl-2, Bax, Akt, and glycogen synthase kinase (GSK)-3β was determined by western blotting. Expression of vanilloid receptor subtype 1 (VR1), Akt and GSK-3β was observed by immunocytochemistry. RESULTS: Compared with the H/R group, cell viability of the GH group was significantly increased in a dosedependent manner (55.9% ± 10.0% vs 69.6% ± 9.6%, 71.9% ± 17.4%, and 76.3% ± 13.3%). Compared with the H/R group, the percentage of apoptotic cells in the GH group significantly decreased (12.38% ± 1.51% vs 6.88% ± 0.87%). Compared with the GH group, the percentage of apoptotic cells in the D + GH group, C + GH group and L + GH groups significantly increased (11.70% ± 0.88%, 11.93% ± 0.96%, 10.20% ± 1.05% vs 6.88% ± 0.87%). There were no significant differences in the percentage of apoptotic cells between the H/R and DM groups (12.38% ± 1.51% vs 13.00% ± 1.13%). There was a significant decrease in LDH release following ghrelin postconditioning compared with the H/R group (561.58 ± 64.01 U/L vs 1062.45 ± 105.29 U/L). There was a significant increase in LDH release in the D + GH, C + GH and L + GH groups compared with the GH group (816.89 ± 94.87 U/L, 870.95 ± 64.06 U/L, 838.62 ± 118.45 U/L vs 561.58 ± 64.01 U/L). There were no significant differences in LDH release between the H/R and DM groups (1062.45 ± 105.29 U/L vs 1017.65 ± 68.90 U/L). Compared with the H/R group, expression of Bcl-2 and Akt increased in the GH group, whereas expression of Bax and GSK3β decreased. Compared with the GH group, expression of Bcl-2 decreased and Bax increased in the D + GH, C + GH and L + GH groups, and Akt decreased and GSK-3β increased in the L + GH group. The H/R group also upregulated expression of VR1 and GSK-3β and downregulated Akt. The number of VR1-positive and Akt-positive cells in the GH group significantly increased, whereas the number of GSK-3β-positive cells significantly decreased. Participants were a total of 96 intermediate learners of L2 Chinese, wh...This study investigated the efficiency of learning the Chinese numeral classifiers by L2 Chinese learners by means of an alignment-oriented task. Participants were a total of 96 intermediate learners of L2 Chinese, who were randomly assigned to two experimental groups and one control group, with each group consisting of 32 participants. The continuation task used in this study consisted of a picture-based Chinese text depicting a room with an array of objects, which necessitates the use of classifiers. The two experimental groups were both required to first read the text and then write to describe their own rooms in comparison with the one in the text. One group was instructed to use the classifiers from the text as much as possible in their writing, whereas the other was not required to do so. Participants in the control group were first given the picture to look at in the absence of the text and then asked to describe their own rooms. The results showed that the continuation task significantly enhanced participants’ retention of the Chinese numeral classifiers, suggesting that the alignment-based approach is an effective way to learn difficult linguistic categories such as the Chinese classifiers.展开更多

Thep53-regulated gene 14-3-3σ undergoes frequent epigenetic silencing in several types of cancer, including carcinoma ofthe breast, prostate, and skin, suggesting that the loss of 14-3-3σ expression may be causally involved in tumor progression.Functional studies demonstrated that 14-3-3σ is involved in cell-cycle control and prevents the accumulation of chro-mosomal damage. The recent identification of novel 14-3-3σ-associated proteins by a targeted proteomics approachimplies that 14-3-3σ regulates diverse cellular processes, which may become deregulated after silencing of 14-3-3σexpression in cancer cells.展开更多

The recent identification of novel 14-3-3σ-associated proteins by a targeted proteomics approachimplies that 14-3-3σ regulates diverse cellular processes, which may become deregulated after silencing of 14-3-3σexpression in cancer cells.
