The Prognostic Value of Pathological and Molecular Margins Marked by p53 and eIF4E in Laryngeal Carcinoma

Objective: To study the prognostic value of the pathological margin and molecular margin marked by eIF4E and P53 protein in laryngeal carcinoma. Methods: The prognostic value of pathological and molecular margin was studied in 253 cases and 67 cases respectively, the latter were pathological negative margin chosen from the former. Immunohistochemisty was used to detect the expression of eIF4E and p53 proteins. Results: The rate of pathological, p53 and eIF4E positive margins was 20.2%, 19.4% and 32.8% respectively. The recurrent rate of those with positive margins was higher than that of negative margins, which including pathological margin (70.6% vs 35.1%, P =0.0000), p53 margin (69.2% vs 33.3%, P =0.018) and eIF4E margin (63.6% vs 28.9%, P =0.018); The survival rate of those with negative margins was higher than those with positive margins, including pathological margin (the 5-year cumulative survival rate was 37.52% and 64.37% respectively, P =0.0023), p53 margin (the 5-year cumulative survival rate was 24.62% and 75.69% respectively, P =0.0012) and eIF4E margin (the 5-year cumulative survival rate was 43.31% and 77.52% respectively, P =0.0006). Conclusion: The prognosis of those with both pathological and molecular positive margins was worse than that of the negative margins; Both the eIF4E and p53 were useful markers to pick out the poor prognostic patients from those with pathological negative margin, and the former seemed to be more potential.

Probabilistic limit state design methodof the axial resistance of post grouting pile

The reliability of post grouting pile axial resistance was studied by proposing a design method for its probabilistic limit state,which is represented by the partial coefficients of load,end,and side resistance.The hyperbolic,modified hyperbolic,and polynomial models were employed to predict the ultimate bearing capacity of test piles that were not loaded to damage in field tests.The results were used for the calculation and calibration of the reliability index.The reliability of the probabilistic limit state design method was verified by an engineering case.The results show that the prediction results obtained from the modified hyperbolic model are closest to those obtained through the static load test.The proposed corresponding values of total,side,and end resistance partial coefficients are 1.84,1.66,and 2.73 when the dead and live load partial coefficients are taken as 1.1 and 1.4,respectively.Meanwhile,the corresponding partial coefficients of total,side,and end resistance are 1.70,1.56,and 2.34 when the dead and live load partial coefficients are taken as 1.2 and 1.4,respectively.

Global Exponential Projective Synchronization and Lag Synchronization of Hyperchaotic Lü System

This paper investigates the projective synchronization and lag synchronization of a new hyperchaotic system[Physica A 364(2006)103].On the basis of Lyapunov stability theory,two novel nonlinear controllers are respectivelydesigned to guarantee the global exponential projective synchronization(including complete synchronization and anti-synchronization)and lag synchronization.Finally,numerical simulations are given to show the effectiveness of the mainresults.

System resource constraint theory

The System Resource Constraint Theory intends to research growth of economy under different classes of system resource constraint. By analogy between ecology system and economic system, from the angle of total nature resource, total supply ability and total market volume, the theory focuses on the constraint condition and development characteristic of economy as well as the various game characteristics among economies such as independence, competition, and joint competition. According to the math deduction, the author finds that Logistic model is relative with Marthus＇s model and Zero-growth model.

Mathematics Knowledge of Proof in Geometry： Pre-Service Teachers＇ Perspectives

This article is based on research on pre-service teachers＇ perspectives on their mathematics knowledge of proof in geometry. The study was framed using tile mathematical knowledge for teaching framework. This qualitative study employed the use of a task-based worksheet, focus group sessions and semi-structured individual interviews. The task-based worksheet was completed by 180 pre-service mathematics teachers （second, third and fourth year mathematics education students）. Pre-service mathematics teachers are student teachers who have not yet completed their training to become teachers. After the analysis of the task-based worksheet, 20 participants were invited to participate in focus group sessions and individual interviews. The findings of the study reveal that the participants possess peripheral mathematics knowledge of proof in geometry. The study aims at assisting pre-service teachers and interested educationists to explore innovative methods of acquiring and imparting mathematics knowledge of proof in geometry. The study proposes possible changes in curriculum at school and university level.

Reality in Dutch Novels： Developing a Postmodern Literary-Based Ontology

The term ＂ontology＂ is used to describe the nature of reality and demarcates the parameters of existence. An understanding and description of ontology is crucial for academic pursuit as it unveils applicable realities, yet it is often disregarded. The general neglect of ontology provided three motivations for this paper： Firstly, the discussion of the ontological underpinnings in research papers is often neglected while the methodology and methods receive extensive review. Secondly, tertiary students in an academic research-writing course face tremendous difficulty to describe the philosophical ideas that support their interpretation of reality and existence. Thirdly, the philosophical underpinnings of contemporary ontological thought are further complicated by the epistemological challenges posed by the tension between modernism and postmodernism. This paper suggests the use of literature （novels） as a relativity accessible platform to initiate the development of ontological thought. Through a close reading of a sample of Dutch novels published during the last decade of the 20th century, three themes were developed to illuminate the nature of postmodem reality and establish a literary-based ontology. The following three themes were developed： reality as fragments of fiction, reality as dream of paradoxes, and reality as plethora of stories. By using literature as source, ontological thought can be developed to illuminate the extent of the realities acknowledged in research projects.

Paulo Coelho The Author＇s Quest as Reader of the World

Paulo Coelho＇s novels call into question the nature of the literary text and the act of reading in a post-Einsteinian world. Amidst the debate over his popular writings （Albanese; Ndagano）, the discussion turns to whether Coelho continues a poetics of narrative developed by Jorge Luis Borges. This paper explores how Coelho＇s work may depart from a reading of Borges, yet goes beyond it into what Bakhtin established as ＂the Einsteinian universe applied to literary studies＂, as posited by Stone （2008）. Coelho＇s work is affected by hypertexts, new ways of connecting and perceiving subjectivities, and cross-cultural pilgrimages. A hermeneutic reading of his novel, The Zahir： A Novel of Obsession （2005b）, allows us to delve into the Coelhian the notion of the zahir as a tensional metaphor （Ricouer） of world-making （Valdes）. This underscores the postmodern assumption of the author as just another reader, albeit an ably active one. Through the courageous act of making his reading（s） transparent through writing, he invites other readers into the dialectical presumptions of his world.

A Comparative Study of the Management Mode of Sino- American Institutions of Higher Learning from the Perspective of the Party-Administrative Power Separation and Operation Mechanism

In this paper, we research on the higher education management mode of China and America based on the perspective of operation mechanism, separation of school and the government. As the thought of higher education management theory or a form, we jump out of the labyrinth of modernism manages view and the introduction of totally different from the modernist paradigm, from the angle of the theory research of postmodernism manages view. The paper is organized as the follows. In the first section, we generally introduce the basic concepts of higher education management and the relationship of the schools and government. Then, by comparing the pattern of the Chinese and the American, we analyze the difference in detail. Finally, we set up the prospect and the conclusion. In conclusion, our method combines the advantages of the American higher education management model which will be meaningful.

Global Financial Planning Education Standards

Financial planning may not meet all the accepted criteria of traditional professions such as divinity and law, it does, however, fit the post-modernist view of professions characterized by the role played by professional associations. The hallmark of a profession is the presence of a common body of knowledge and it can be claimed that a theoretical body of knowledge for the ＂financial planning profession＂ has always existed, although it has only been in recent times that agreement has been reached on a common understanding of the theoretical basis of the financial planning profession. This common body of knowledge is the basis upon which the Financial Planning Standards Board [FPSB] is attempting to develop a global curriculum as part of the certification process for financial planners. The FPSB has developed a curriculum framework to be applied by its affiliate members to ensure consistency in global education standards. A review of Certified Financial Planner （CFP） certification in Australia, China, India and the United States exposes differences in how this is approached. The Intemational Organization for Standardization [ISO] has also emerged as another forum in which global financial planning education standards have been set. Although the FPSB＇s global financial planning education standards has a high degree of compatibility with the ISO standard, the ISO standard has largely remained as a shelf reference.

Secondary instability control of compressible flow by suction for a swept wing

The crossflow instability of a three-dimensional boundary layer is a main factor affecting the transition around the swept-wing.The three-dimensional boundary layer flow affected by the saturated crossflow vortex is very sensitive to the high frequency disturbances,which foreshadows that the swept wing flow transition will happen.The primary instability of the compressible flow over a swept wing is investigated with nonlinear parabolized stability equations (NPSE).The Floquet theory is then applied to the analysis of the influence of localized steady suction on the secondary instability of crossflow vortex.The results show that suction can significantly suppress the growth of the crossflow mode as well as the secondary instability modes.

Influencing factors of the dynamic hysteresis in varying compliance vibrations of a ball bearing

We focus on the hysteretic characteristics of the varying compliance(VC) principal resonance in a ball bearing. The branches of the periodic VC response are traced by the harmonic balance method and the alternating frequency/time domain technique(HB-AFT) embedding Arc-length continuation, and the stability of these solutions is investigated by using Floquet theory. We find that the resonant response displays a swallow-tail structure due to the coupling nonlinearities between the Hertzian contact and the bearing clearance, which differs from the soft hysteresis of the non-loss Hertzian contact resonances. Furthermore, we find that period-1 VC branch cannot completely characterize the response of the system for a large bearing clearance, because multiple instability regions may occur from the cyclic fold, the secondary Hopf bifurcations, supercritical and subcritical period doubling bifurcations, in which case co-existences of period-1, period-2, and even quasi-periodic VC motions emerge in the hysteretic resonant range.

Lag Synchronization Between Two Coupled Networks via Open-Plus-Closed-Loop and Adaptive Controls

In this paper,we study lag synchronization between two coupled networks and apply two types of control schemes,including the open-plus-closed-loop(OPCL) and adaptive controls.We then design the corresponding control algorithms according to the OPCL and adaptive feedback schemes.With the designed controllers,we obtain two theorems on the lag synchronization based on Lyapunov stability theory and Barbalat's lemma.Finally we provide numerical examples to show the effectiveness of the obtained controllers and see that the adaptive control is stronger than the OPCL control when realizing the lag synchronization between two coupled networks with different coupling structures.

Buckling and post-buckling of rotationally restrained columns with imperfections

The stability of imperfect columns has been studied by many researchers. Often the ends of a column are not necessarily fixed or pin-ended for practical structures. Therefore, rotationally restrained columns having an initial imperfection in an asymmetric mode have been studied in this paper. An elastic formula using the large deflection theory was given, and the shooting method was used to obtain the equilibrium paths and critical loads. Then the relationship between the end rotation and rotational restraints has been studied and discussed followed by a detailed discussion on the influence of imperfection on the column behaviour.

Male Fashion Magazines and Western Capitalism： Expansion in the Post-Colonial State

Adopting an approach of ethnography, this article uses the Chinese fashion magazine Esquire（ under the American Esquires copyright） as a case study of indigenous media in the context of the globalization of the market economy, and approaches it with critical theories of political economy of communication, in order to offer insight into the commodification process of the Chinese male and expose its implicit dependent economy model. Thus the author attempts to demonstrate how male fashion media in China are trying to re-construct Chinese males＇ masculinity in a post-socialist state and trying to re-map the spheres of class and commodity, as being manipulated by the international copyright system, in the context of postcolonialism, intending to change traditional gender order and to sustain Western Capitalism＇s planetary expansion.
