To help their students become effective listeners becomes one of the great challenging tasks for the language teachers. In the Chinese contexts, this challenge is greater for college English teachers, for listening skills, an important part of communication skills, have not been given as much attention as reading or writing skills in teaching non-English majors, especially a decade ago. This paper introduces English movies on English listening teaching in college, and puts forward some application strategies of English movies in English listening teaching.展开更多

What is the film's main theme? What is the relationship between its parts? And above all, which underlying concept attains a central place for the understanding of this film that can be considered as an audiovisual poem? In these terms, the paper's purpose is to unveil Naqoyqatsi's meaning through a thematic and modal analysis. The aim is to contemplate both the film's narrative and formal aspect, in order to deeply understand the way it represents a basic human contradiction: the subjugation provoked by gravity (necessity) and the will to overcome this superior structural force through action (freedom). Therefore, this paper intends to show that such a monumental audiovisual work is a very profound cinematographic thesis about human condition, also reflecting about the reason of social conflicts and sorrows. The method adopted in this paper implies both a conceptual film analysis and a glance over the audiovisual style, considering the intersections between the varieties of languages used by Reggio to compose this huge film indexed as a documentary and literally being a creative treatment of"reality".展开更多

The research is a part of the English Learning Program directed by ZHANG Zhen, which is sponsored by Academic Affairs Office of Leshan Normal University. The researcher of the program sought for theretical bases from Krashen's Input Hypothesis, the Motivation Theory, the Context Theory, and the Communicative Language Teaching Theory. Then the author introduced a pilot study conducted by utilizing films or TV programs to teach listening from September 2010 till now. The statistic results from the experiment suggest that there is indeed some correlations between teaching listening with films or TV programs and a learner's listening comprehension in general in language achievement tests at certain stages. The scores of the students from the experimental group are improved after two years of teaching with the new methods. Analyses and discussions have been done based on a questionnaire and an interview. The results showed that both the teachers and the students had positive attitudes towards teaching listening with films or TV programs. Most of them view this method as an effective way in ELT (English language teaching), because it provides more opportunities for contextual practice, lower their anxiety; it can also help to motivate them, stimulate their active participation and increase their activities as well. Therefore, this method can be used to cultivate students' communicative competence. Consequently, we can draw the conclusion that this method has some advantages over teaching listening with the pre-taped materials in New College English. It may play an important role in ELT, especially in listening teaching. Based on the statistic analyses and the survey, some activities and techniques are provided for the teacher on how to teach listening with films or TV programs. The roles that an English teacher plays in this method are illustrated at the end of the thesis.展开更多

In this work, the electrooxidation behavior of TMB was investigated with a SnO2:F film optically transparent thin-layer spectroelectrochemical cell. TMB underwent one two-electron electrooxidation process in the pH range from 2.0 to < 4.0, and two successive one-electron electrooxidation processes in the pH range from 4.0 to < 7.0 in the B-R buffer solution. At pH 6.5, the electrooxidative product of TMB generated a subsequent chemical reaction to yield an azo compound. Several spectroelectrochemical techniques, such as thin-layer cyclic voltammetry, thin-layer cyclic voltabsorptometry, thin-layer potential-controlled electrolysis absorptometry, thin-layer single-potential-step chronoabsorptometry, thin-layer dou-ble-potential-step chronoabsorptometry, thin-layer single-potential-step open-circuit relaxation chronoabsorptometry, were applied to this investigation. The formal potential E0’ and the electron transfer number corresponding to the electrooxidation of TMB in B-R buffer solution, and the reaction rate constant of the subsequent chemical reaction were determined.展开更多
