Resource scheduling should consider the specific characteristics of the application, and decide the metrics to be used accordingly. This paper presents a distributed resource scheduling framework mainly consisting of a job scheduler and a local scheduler. In order to meet the requirements of different applications, we adopt HGSA, a Heuristic-based Greedy Scheduling Algorithm, to schedule jobs in the grid, where the heuristic knowledge is the metric weights of the computing resources and the metric workload impact factors. The metric weight is used to control the effect of the metric on the application. For different applications, only metric weights and the metric workload impact factors need to be changed, while the scheduling algorithm remains the same. Experimental results are presented to demonstrate the adaptability of the HGSA.展开更多

One of the questions about natural phenomena asked in the Hydromethods of the Great West(Taixi shuifa泰西水法;1612)(hereafter TXSF),composed by the Italian Jesuit Sabatino de Ursis with the support of the Chinese offi...One of the questions about natural phenomena asked in the Hydromethods of the Great West(Taixi shuifa泰西水法;1612)(hereafter TXSF),composed by the Italian Jesuit Sabatino de Ursis with the support of the Chinese official Xu Guangqi徐光啟,concerns the causes of sea tides.The idiosyncratic answer given in the TXSF serves as an example for the Jesuit missionaries,strategically motivated approach to the transfer of knowledge through the translation of Western scientific thought into Chinese.From a chronological overview of the attempts made both in the East and in the West to theoretically conceptualize the causes of the cyclical occurrence of ebb and flow,the comparison reveals that despite being based on totally different cosmologies,the related insights were virtually on a par.The aim to nevertheless convince the audience of the TXSF of the superiority of Western sciences resulted in a particular rhetoric and a division of tasks in the composition of the tides paragraph.In order to verify the success of this joint effort of de Ursis and Xu Guangqi,a change of perspective from the transmitter to the receiver side is necessary.Thus,the paper also explores the work's reception in later Chinese works dealing with this topic.展开更多

A cumulative prospect theory-based user equilibrium(CPT-UE) model considering stochastic ...The cumulative prospect theory(CPT) is applied to study travelers' route choice behavior in a degradable transport network. A cumulative prospect theory-based user equilibrium(CPT-UE) model considering stochastic perception error(SPE) within travelers' route choice decision process is developed. The SPE is conditionally dependent on the actual travel time distribution, which is different from the deterministic perception error used in the traditional logit-based stochastic user equilibrium. The CPT-UE model is formulated as a variational inequality problem and solved by a heuristic solution algorithm. Numerical examples are provided to illustrate the application of the proposed model and efficiency of the solution algorithm. The effects of SPE on the reference point determination, cumulative prospect value estimation, route choice decision and network performance evaluation are investigated.展开更多

The model is built on the fact that the total cognitive capacity of an individual comprises two systems of reasoning--System 1 that is unconscious, associative, implicit, more emotional and less controlled, and so forth; and System 2 that is conscious, explicit, deliberate and rule-governed, and so forth. The benefits of the proposed model that integrates these two complementary and compensatory systems are first illustrated with an example in audit planning, and second explained how the model could overcome the deficiencies of heuristics specifically in an audit context.展开更多
