During the measurement of atmospheric nitrate radical by long-path differential optical absorption spectroscopy, water vapor strong absorption could affect the measurement of nitrate radical and detection limits of system. Under the tropospheric condition, the optical density of water vapor absorption is non-linearly dependent on column density. An effective method was developed to eliminate the effect of water vapor absorption. Reference spectra of water vapor based on the daytime atmospheric absorption spectra, when fitted together with change of cross section with water vapor column densities, gave a more accurate fitting of water vapor absorptions, thus its effect on the measurements of nitrate radical could be restricted to a minimum and detection limits of system reached 3.6 ppt. The modified method was applied during an intensive field campaign in the Pearl River Delta, China. The NO3 concentration in polluted air masses varied from 3.6 ppt to 82.5 ppt with an average level of 23.6±1.8 ppt. 展开更多

[Objective]The aim was to analyze the primary speciation of 6 microelements in Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fisch. and provide theoretical basis for explaining pharmacodynamic principle of liquorice and discussing quality control of liquorice planting. [Method]The 6 elements Cu,Zn,Ca,Fe,Mg and Mn in roots of G.uralensis were extracted based on traditional decoction method and were separated into water-soluble state and suspension state by micro porous filtering film. The elements in water-soluble state were detected by flame atomic adsorption spectrophotometry (FAAS). [Result]The results showed that extractive rates of the elements were in the range of 1.71%-60.06%,and immerse-residue ratio in 0.018 3-1.682 0; the results also indicated that the immerse-residue ratio of Zn was biggest (1.68),Zn played an important medical role and might be considered as the best characteristic element in G.uralensis; the recoveries of the elements were ranged from 95.72% to 103.15% and relative standard deviations (RSD) were less than 2.38%. [Conclusion]Because of its high accuracy,FAAS method is feasible for analyzing primary speciation of microelements in G.uralensis. 展开更多

Donkey (Equus asinus) domesticated animal, is neglected as an object of scientific study. In countries where donkeys are used for work, they are slaughtered at the end of their useful working life and meat is destined for human consumption. This study was carried out to evaluate the mineral composition of donkey carcass meat. Meat was obtained in Donkey Fair 2016 at Mexico State, minerals were analyzed by Atomic Absorption Spectxophotometry, Ca, Na, K, Fe, Zn and Cu, and P content by colorimetry. Data obtained in mg/100g were: Ca, 7.95; Na, 48.75; K, 353; Fe, 3,95; Zn, 3.17; Cu, 0.19 and P, 227. Analysis revealed that donkey meat has a low content of Ca, but it is good in P as well as K. In conclusion donkey meat is a good source of minerals requested for human health. 展开更多

Pollution of the environment, particularly the soil, appears to be one of the major contemporary issues. In addition, many studies point to the involvement of ecological risk of heavy metals into the food chain through edible plants like Spinaceae oleraceae L. and Lactuca sativa L.. This paper presents the results of the "ex-situ" application of phytoacumulation on the soils of contaminated terrain using the plant species of spinach (Spinacea oleracea L.) and lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.). Sequestration of arsen from the soil by these plant species was observed through phytoaccumulation factor--PF and limit values (mg/kg). The main task and objective of this research was to establish the level of accumulation of toxic element As from the soil by plants and to calculate the PF factor of transfer. The experiment was set up in the control conditions where the soil from eight contaminated locations was placed in the experimental containers. The AAS method was used to analyze heavy metal in plant material and soil. PF factor values ranged from 0.1 to 1.0 which indicates that the spinach and lettuce plants rechargeable moderate compared to arsenic. 展开更多

Effect of Mercury on the Proximate Composition of Maize (Zea mays L,)

Plants can be exposed to mercury either by direct administration as antifungal agents, mainly to crop plants through seed treatment or foliar spray, or by accident. Mercury poisoning has become a problem of interest on a global scale. Natural emissions of mercury form two-thirds of the input; man-made releases form about one-third. Significant amounts of mercury may be added to agricultural land with sludge, fertilizers, lime and manures. Total mercury levels were determined in six breeds of quality protein maize using cold vapor atomic absorption spectrometry (CVAAS). The breeds analyzed were Aziga, Abeleehi, Akposoe, Golden Jubilee, Etubi and Obaatanpa. Proximate composition of these breeds was also determined. The objective of this study was therefore to assess the effect of mercury on the proximate composition of quality protein maize. The proximate composition of the maize varieties analyzed showed that the moisture content ranged from 11.57% ± 0.205% to 12.76%± 0.042%, ash from 1.11% ±0.064% to 1.58% ±0.021%, protein, 6.51%± 0.307% to 10.39% ±0.306%, fiber 1.44% ±0.071% to 1.87% ± 0.057%, fat 1.84% ± 0.078% to 2.75% ± 0.092% and carbohydrate 71.77% ± 0.035% to 76.54% ± 0.216%. The total mercury levels in the maize breeds analyzed ranged from 0.0010 + 1.17E-05μg/g to 0.0079 + 1.00E-05μg/g. The mercury levels detected were lower than the WHO limit for mercury in food of 0.5 μg/g in all the maize breeds. The low levels of mercury in the maize samples show they are safe for consumption. 展开更多
