The influences of thermal oxidation on the complex permittivity and microwave absorption properties of Si Cf/Si C composites were investigated in the frequency range of 8.2-12.4 GHz. Both the real and imaginary parts of the complex permittivity decreased after thermal oxidation. The composites after 100 h thermal oxidation showed that reflection loss exceeded-10 d B in the frequency of 9.7-11.9 GHz and the minimum value was-11.4 d B at 11.0 GHz. The flexural strength of composites decreased but fracture behavior was improved obviously after thermal oxidation. These results indicate that the SiCf/SiC composites containing PyC interphase after thermal oxidation possess good microwave absorbing property and fracture behavior.展开更多

However, its performance needs improvement to meet cost targets for CO2 capture. This study attempts to develop membranes with multiple permselective mechanisms in order to enhance CO2 separation performance of fixed carder membrane. In this study, a novel membrane with multiplepermselective mechanisms of solubility selectivity and reaction selectivity was developed by incorporating CO2-selective adsorptive silica nanoparticles in situ into the tertiary amine containing polyamide membrane formed by interfacial polymerization (IP). Various techniques were employed to characterize the polyamide and polyam-ide-silica composite membranes. The TGA result shows that nanocomposite membranes exhlbit superior-thermal stability than pure polyamide membranes. In addition, gas permeation experiments show that both nanocomposite membranes have larger CO2 permeance than pure polyamide membranes. The enhanced CO2/N2 separation performance for nanocomposite membranes is mainly due to the thin film thickness, and multiple permselective mechanisms of solubility selectivity and reaction selectivity.展开更多

The aim of the modification was to enhance the SO2 adsorption capacity of the activated coke. Several techniques, including total nitrogen content measurements, SO2 adsorption, XPS and FTIR analysis, were used to characterize the coke samples. The XPS and FTIR spectra suggest the existence of -CONH2 groups in the H2O2 plus ammonia modified coke. The SO2 adsorption capacity of an activated coke increases slightly with an increase in H2O2 concentration during the modification process. The desulphurization performance of a modified coke is considerably enhanced by increasing the treatment temperature during ammonia modification. The amount of nitrogen in a coke modified by H2O2 plus NH3.H2O is the highest, and the SO2 adsorption capacity of the coke is also the highest (89.9 mg/gC). The NH3.H2O (only) modified sample has lower nitrogen content and lower desulphurization capacity (79.9 mg/gC). H2O modification gives the lowest SO2 adsorption capacity (28.9 mg/gC). The H2O2 pre-treatment is beneficial for the introduction of nitrogen onto the surface of a sample during the following ammonia treatment process.展开更多

Mg2FeH6-based complexes with and without TiO2 were synthesized respectively by reactive mechanical alloying, and hydrogen sorption properties of the complexes were examined by Sieverts-type apparatus. The results show that the sample without TiO2 releases 4.43 % (mass fraction) hydrogen in 1.5 ks at 653 K under 0.1 MPa H2 pressure and absorbs 90% of the total 4.43 % (mass fraction) hydrogen absorbed in 85 s at 623 K under 4.0 MPa H2 pressure. But for the sample with TiO2 addition under the same condition,it only needs 400 s to release all of the stored hydrogen and 60 s to absorb 90% of the total hydrogen absorbed. The activation energies for desorption process of the samples with and without TiO2 are determined to be 71.2 and 80.3 kJ/(mol.K),respectively. The improvement in hydrogen sorption rate and and reduction in activation energy can be attributed to the addition of TiO2.展开更多

Textural property and morphology of the SEG composite were characterized by the combination of X-ray diffraction, N_2 adsorption–desorption, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and Fourier transform infrared measurements. Results show that mesoporous silica is steadily and uniformly grown on the surface of the graphite slices and the thickness of the silica layer can be finely tuned according to the silica/C molar ratio in the initial reaction solution. This newly synthesized SEG composite shows greatly increased adsorption capacity to methylene blue than the pristine expanded graphite in the batch tests. Both Langmuir and Frendlich models were further used to evaluate the adsorption isotherms of methylene blue over expanded graphite and SEG samples with different silica contents. Finally, pseudosecond-order model was used to describe the kinetics of methylene blue over expanded graphite and the silica-carbon composites.展开更多

Two methods are employed: spectroscopic ellipsometry for water vapor adsorption and gas permeation of binary mixture of helium and H2O The adsorption behaviors on the silica membrane comply with the first-order Langmuir isotherm. The investigation demonstrates that helium flux through the silica membrane decreases dramatically in presence of H20 molecules. The transport of gas molecules through such small pores is believed not to be continuous any more, whereas it is reasonably assumed that the gas molecules hop from one occupied site to another unoccupied one under the potential gradient. When the coverage of H20 molecules on the silica surface increases, the dramatic decrease of helium flux could be related to percolation effect, where the adsorbed H20 molecules on the silica surface block the hopping of helium molecules.展开更多

The thickness and microstructure of semiconductor films are generally crucial to their PEC properties. Herein, three-dimensional(3D) interconnected nanoporous Ta3N5 film photoanodes with controlled thickness were successfully fabricated via galvanostatic anodization and NH3 nitridation. The porous Ta3N5 nanoarchitectures(NAs) of 900 nm in thickness showed the highest PEC performance due to the optimal lightharvesting and charge separation. Compared with the holeinduced photocorrosion, the electrochemical oxidation at high anodic potentials resulted in severer performance degradation of Ta3N5. Although the surface oxide layer on deteriorated Ta3N5 photoanodes could be removed by NH3 re-treatment,the PEC performance was only partially recovered. As an alternative, anchoring a dual-layer Co(OH)x/Co OOH co-catalyst shell on the porous Ta3N5 NAs demonstrated substantially enhanced PEC performance and stability. Overall, this work provides reference to controllably fabricate 3D nanoporous Ta3N5-based photoanodes for efficient and stable PEC water splitting via optimizing the light absorption, hole extraction, charge separation and utilization.展开更多

Although it is well known that adsorption is the first step in photocatalysis, very little work has been done on the sequential use of materials as both adsorbents and photo- catalysts. In this work, two titania-based materials, TiO2 xerogel and TiO2 photocatalyst nanoparticles, were fabricated and evaluated as adsorbent and photocatalyst for the remediation of contaminated water with an azo dye, Acid Orange 7 (AO7), as the modeling pollutant. The TiO2 xerogel showed a high adsorption capacity to AO7 (769 mg/g) and could be regenerated eas- ily with diluted NaOH solution (0.01 mol/L) for several cycles. The exhausted xerogel was calcined at 400 ℃ for 3 h and used as a photocatalyst for the degradation of AO7. Compared to the nanoparticles directly prepared from fresh TiO2 xerogel, the TiO2 nanoparticles from adsorption exhausted xerogel showed a much higher photocatalytic activity upon both UV and visible light irradiation. Thus the titania-based materials were endowed with improved performance as well as prolonged lifetime.展开更多
