Recently, news reports on the conference have frequently appeared in the media of various countries, particularly those relating to energy issues, prompting much reflection. This paper focuses on the news reports of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP) by Chinese and British mainstream media, using corpus tools to investigate the similarities and distinctiveness between the two countries reporting on climate and energy issues in terms of high-frequency words, keywords, and collocations.展开更多

The United Nations Climate Change Conference represents a crucial opportunity to correct course and accelerate the resolution of the climate crisis. This study utilizes a corpus-based critical discourse analysis to examine the coverage of the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Chinese and English mainstream media, employing a combination of critical discourse analysis and corpus techniques. By comparing the discourse strategies employed in the reports from both countries, the study aims to disclose the underlying ideologies. The findings reveal that seemingly neutral news reports on global issues exhibit differences in focus between mainstream Chinese and English media, which subtly reflect underlying variations in values and cultural backgrounds.展开更多
