Forestland prediction of China based on forest ecosystem services for the first half of 21st century

A new model was developed to predict forestland demand of China during the years of 2010-2050 in terms of the concept of forest ecosystem services. On the basis of the relationship between forest ecosystem services and classified forest management, we hypothesized that the ecological-forest provides ecological services, whereas commercial-forest supplies wood and timber production, and the influences of the growth of population, social-economic development target, forest management methods and the technology changes on forest resources were also taken into account. The prediction reveals that the demand of total forestland of China will be 244.8, 261.2 and 362.2 million ha by the year 2010, 2020 and 2050, respectively. The results demonstrated that China will be confronted with a shortage of forest resources, especially with lack of ecological-oriented forests, in the future. It is suggested that sustainable management of forest resources must be reinforced and more attention should be drown no enhancing the service function of forest ecosystem.

A Comparison of Different Gracilariopsis lemaneiformis(Rhodophyta) Parts in Biochemical Characteristics, Protoplast Formation and Regeneration

Gracilariopsis lemaneiformis is a commercially exploited alga. Its filaceous thallus can be divided into three parts, holdfast, middle segment and tip. The growth and branch forming trend and agar content of these three parts were analyzed, respectively, in this study. The results showed that the tip had the highest growth rate and branched most, although it was the last part with branch forming ability. The holdfast formed branches earliest but slowly. Holdfast had the highest agar content. We also assessed the difference in protoplast formation and regeneration among three parts. The middle segment displayed the shortest enzymolysis time and the highest protoplast yield; whereas the tip had the strongest vitality of protoplasts formation. Juvenile plants were only obtained from the protoplasts generated from the tip. These results suggested that the differentiation and function of G. lemaneiformis was different.

Development and Application of DCC Catalysts to Meet New Demands

The new generation of DCC catalysts, the DMMC/RMMC series catalysts developed by RIPP are introduced in this paper. The large molecule cracking ability is enhanced by increasing the portion of large pores; and the coke selectivity is improved by adjusting the acidity site density on the matrix surface, while the selective cracking reactions are increased. The sphericity of catalysts is improved by adopting new preparation method. The commercial application results have shown that applying DMMC/RMMC series catalysts with the mixed VGO, VGO plus AR, and hydrotreated VGO feed can increase the propylene yield by 2.43, 1.3 and 0.8 percentage points, respectively, as compared to the previous catalysts along with improvement in some products yields. The refining enterprises can make more profits after applying new series of DCC catalysts.

IPT＇s Quick ＆ Dirty Economic Valuation Method： An Empirical Test on Three Cases

The assessment of economic potential of technological innovation projects and its valuation are key aspects in negotiations among universities, research institutes, and companies. Among the reasons for this, it can be quoted portfolio prioritization, which involves several different economic, social, and environmental impacts aspects and industrial productivity. The standard of economic potential is an important reference in the project selection process. For technology transfer, the valuation of technologies consists in a relevant task to support intellectual property （IP） negotiations. However, in dynamic environments, negotiations for the commercial exploitation and payment of IP resulting from research projects require quick answers, due to several aspects like tight deadlines to sign contracts. Moreover, technology valuation is one of the most complex activities related to the technology transfer. Due to these challenges faced by Instituto de Pesquisas Tecnol6gicas do Estado de S~,o Paulo （IPT--Institute For Technological Research） in its participation in Brazilian Association of Industrial Innovation （EMBRAPII, acronym in Brazilian Portuguese）, authors developed an expedite technology valuation method, based on concepts of discounted cash flow （DCF） associated with Gompertz curve adaptations as a way to support universities and research institutes in negotiations with enterprises. This method has been regularly applied on negotiations between 1PT and companies. This paper will present cases of metallurgical companies. The results obtained confirm the validity of the method in supporting the definition of the payable amounts for commercial exploitation of technologies, enabling the application of this method as an alternative to some methods found in the literature and eventually employed by universities and research institutes in Brazil. For future research, authors recommend comparative studies between Gompertz curve and other methods, such as the Pearl curve, using the same variables of our method.

（Dis）Economies of Scale in Business Software Systems Development and Enhancement Projects

In the software engineering literature, it is commonly believed that economies of scale do not occur in case of software Development and Enhancement Projects （D＆EP）. Their per-unit cost does not decrease but increase with the growth of such projects product size. Thus this is diseconomies of scale that occur in them. The significance of this phenomenon results from the fact that it is commonly considered to be one of the fundamental objective causes of their low effectiveness. This is of particular significance with regard to Business Software Systems （BSS） D＆EP characterized by exceptionally low effectiveness comparing to other software D＆EP. Thus the paper aims at answering the following two questions： （1） Do economies of scale really not occur in BSS D＆EP？ （2） If economies of scale may occur in BSS D＆EP, what factors are then promoting them？ These issues classify into economics problems of software engineering research and practice.

Roles Portrayed by Women： A Content Analysis in Brazilian Television Advertisements

The main purpose of this paper was to examine female roles portrayed by advertising. More specifically, the questions that motivated this research project were ＂What messages about women have been given to society through advertisement？＂ and ＂Have these portrayals been changed during the past decades？＂ The study consisted of a systematic content analysis of Brazilian commercials from 1973 to 2000. The population from which this sample was drawn consisted of Brazilian commercials which got an award in international and national festivals. A probabilistic sample procedure was employed. Ninety five pieces were selected. The categories and operational rules used in the study were developed based on previous research. This study has proposed that female images in advertising are depicted in three different ways： stereotyped, idealized, and plural portrayals. Our results have revealed that some specific images have changed, however, they continued to be stereotyped and idealized.

A Study on the Constraints and the Solutions in Silver Sport Industry

The purpose of this study is to investigate the constraints that the workers in silver sport industry experience and the solutions. In this study, six workers in silver sport industry participating in the elderly job fair held in Ilsan in 2016 were selected as subjects and interviewed in depth. The sports equipment that the six subjects exhibited and their sales and PR （Public Relations） behaviors during the fair were observed, and they were interviewed about the current status of the sports goods industry, constraints as workers, and solutions to resolve the constraints. A senior sports goods developer analyzed sports goods development and PR process through a case study. The result of this study is as follows. The constraints of silver sport industry environment are constraints on investment and lack of research and development, legal and institutional constraints, and economic constraints. The constraints of the silver sport goods industrial field are anxiety for the production of unproven high-cost goods, constraints on unstable institutions, and constraints from the difficulties in collaboration. The solutions of such problems are as follows. First, it is needed to resolve the high production cost. Second, it is need to resolve the difficulties in delivery. Third, it is needed to resolve the difficulties in communication in the development stage
