商务文本中,大量的普通英语词汇被赋予了"商义"(business meaning),形成了商务英语的半专业词汇。这类词具有难识别、易混淆等特点,因此给商务英语的学习和翻译工作带来了极大的困难。在商务实践中一旦弄错,可能造成严重损失。该文从语义场理论出发,分析英语半专业词汇中"商义"的形成、辨识和理解方法,希望给商务英语的词汇研究和教学带来一些启示。

Redefining Commercial Bus Models in Brazil

Currently, Brazilian buses are divided in three categories： city buses, intercity buses and coaches. That categorization results from the understanding that citizens only need to move around urban perimeters. However, the current bus models available do not fully meet legal demands or cater for all of society＇s demands. Rural workers and students that live in rural areas also must be conveyed in buses and minibuses. Municipal and state directives prohibit employers to convey them in improper vehicles, such as trucks. Social demands, on the other hand, can be i[llustrated by federal and state programs that provide vehicles to transport students who dwell in rural settings. Accordingly, this paper proposes a new categorization of bus models available in the Brazilian market, which should account for the unique local operating conditions rural buses face, instead of only considering the type of service they provide. Further, a purpose-built vehicle is suggested i[n order to cater for the needs of rural workers and students. Rural students represent, in average, five million rural school bus riders.

Classifying R-dual Sequence in the Abstract Frame Theory

In this paper,two operators are defined,and their underlying properties are found,then the R-dual relationship is classified from the aspect of the operators defined.Furthermore,the commutability of the bases of constructing R-dual sequence is discussed.In particular,SR-dual sequence is defined and is clarified.At last an example is given.

An Indigenous Yoruba Socio-political Model of Conflict Resolution

In indigenous and contemporary societies, different elements of social and political institutions have come up with various inner mechanisms that are unique to their societies that can adjudicate in conflict situations. In traditional, indigenous Yoruba societies, agba （elders） were usually relied upon as agents and institutions of conflict resolution in view of certain qualities possessed by this category of people. This paper focuses attention on the role of agba （elders） in conflict resolution at various levels of Yoruba life. We acknowledge that agba （elders） have performed these roles in traditional, indigenous Yoruba societies. The opinion expressed in this paper is that agba, as theoretical and practical conflict resolution mechanism, can be philosophically developed and used as an alternative model to the current means of resolving conflicts through wars and terrorism and other forms of violence by aggrieved individuals and groups in national and international arenas.

Influence of Societal Values on the Outdoor Advertising of Staple Commodities in Lagos State, Nigeria

Societal values are polysemous and its dimensions are imported into advertising to give it rich content. The polysemous character makes it sensitive and complex phenomena. For instance, value that is acceptable in the western part of Nigeria may be unacceptable in the north or east. This clearly implies that value, although may be of the people, is relative and subjective. This study made use of survey research design with a single research question set to guide it. Data were collected from 362 respondents who were purposively selected in the study area （Lagos State, Nigeria） as sample size. Data gathering were done on the field with the aid of questionnaire and analyzed with descriptive statistics. Specifically, a Table of frequency and percentage distribution was employed and scoring of variables was done vis-h-vis the responses of the consumers of staple commodities to look at the extent to which societal values have influenced product advertisements in the State. The Mean and standard deviation was calculated. The result of the study presented in Table 1 shows that all the societal values scoped for this study （culture, moral, religion, taste, language and color） influence consumers in one way or the other but the portrayal of religious design concept to influence consumers to patronize staple commodities ranked best of all. The study observed that of all the societal values traceable to advertising campaign in Lagos State, religion-inclined advertising designs are gaining a rising number of influences. It therefore concludes that religious and cultural designs, when appropriately applied help outdoor advertising to thrive well in Lagos State.

Quantum Mechanical Image of Matrices' LDU Decomposition

The explicit operators L, D, and U axe derived and their physical meaning is revealed, this also provides a new way for disentangling some exponential operators.

Drumming the Future： Vietnamese Drumming as a Bridge Between Tradition and Popular Entertainment

The fascination of Vietnamese with drums and drumming reaches back into the pre-historic when bronze drums （Dong Son）, from the Red River Delta region of Vietnam＇s north, were prized trading commodities throughout the Asian world of that time. Now in the 21st century the Dong Son and other historically renowned drum types have become symbols for Vietnam＇s emergence into an international cultural and economic arena. This paper charts three Vietnamese international events that illustrate the emblematic use of traditional drumming as a nationalistic symbol of modern Vietnam： The Third Asian Indoor Games held in Hanoi in 2009 opened with a drumming spectacle using battle drums; the Jubilee celebrations of the Vietnamese Catholic Church in 2010, opened in the north in the Ha Nam province with an immense traditional drumming performance within its religious setting; the 2012 Hue International Arts Festival incorporated ＂Resounding the Vietnamese Spirit＂, a specific drums and percussion festival, with performances using Binh Dinh war drums, royal drums from Hue, Dong Son drums, and Tay Son battle drums. These displays of traditional drumming it is argued have popularised particular nationalistic styles of drumming amongst Vietnamese youth, extending from the use of drumming in lion dance performances to the emergence of small, youth drumming groups who perform in the streets of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City

Subversive Abjection and Sublimity in Jeanette Winterson＇s Representation of the Fantastic A Study of The Passion and Sexing the Cherry

Looking at the last decades of the 19th and 20th century from our vantage point encourages parallels to be drawn between the two periods： in fact, both are affected by a process of cultural fragmentation, social, and epistemological transformations and crises that permeate the whole civil society. In the specific field of English literature, the genre of the fantastic is undoubtedly a common presence. In Fantasy： The Literature of Subversion, Jackson （1981） noted the re-emergence of the fantastic as a transgressive force at moments of cultural stress and repression. Waugh （1995） held a similar view in The Harvest of the Sixties. At the end of the 20th century, in its postmodernist shape, fantastic literature becomes one of the favourite genres of a number of feminist writers, and among them, Jeanette Winterson transforms it into a truly transgressive genre. This paper examines Winterson＇s The Passion （1996） and Sexing the Cherry （1990） in the light of Jackson＇s theory of the fantastic, as a narrative that establishes an oppositional dialogic relationship with the ＂real＂, to interrogate it and collapse the traditional distinction between the normative and the ＂other＂. In The Passion, the real is signified by the dominant ideological discourse, exemplified by Napoleon; the fantastic by Villanelle＇s webbed feet and her ability to walk on water. In Sexing the Cherry, the real is represented by the Puritans with their bigoted and hypocritical morality; the fantastic by the huge Dog-Woman and her foundling son, Jordan. Besides, in both novels, the female body is metamorphosed to challenge the view of a ＂normal＂, acceptable femininity; what emerges is a monstrous and sublime body that collapses distinctions between gender boundaries. In Sexing the Cherry （1990）, Winterson created the grotesque, gigantic body of the Dog-Woman, a figure of Kristevan ＂abjection＂. In The Passion （1996）, she gave life to the hybrid body of Villanelle, an oxymoronic combination of the terrible beautiful. The conclusion of the paper argues that Winterson deploys the fantastic to deconstruct the gendered subject of the dominant signifying order and create a dislocated world outside commercial culture, where new voices can be heard, speaking for unheard, neglected groups, particularly women.

This paper investigates the organizational culture of one of the largest auto manufacturers in the world Toyota Motor Corporation using various corporate culture and management models. The investigation was conducted in 2009 using qualitative analysis with the help of various secondary sources. The study reveals that the company＇s management style can be characterized as the Family type that implies collectivistic society with male domination, strict rules and laws at work, and long-term orientation. It is also based on several essential principles, such as continuous improvement and learning, respect for people, mutual trust, and teamwork. Two core elements of the Toyota＇s success are technological innovations and qualified human resources.

A General Projection Method for a System of Relaxed Coercive Variational Inequalities in Hilbert Spaces

In this paper,we consider a new algorithm for a generalized system for relaxed coercive nonlinear inequalities involving three different operators in Hilbert spaces by the convergence of projection methods.Our results include the previous results as special cases extend and improve the main results obtained by many others.

Participation in the Higher Education Chamber [CESJ of the National Education Council （：CNE） During the Administration of Fernando Henrique Cardoso

After the creation of the Law 9.394/96, which established the bases of Brazilian education, it is noted that government policies initiated at Fernando Henrique Cardoso （FHC） government reinforced the education decentralization process, combining higher education reform with state reform ruled by neoliberal policies. The literature about Higher Education contemporary problems points to three central themes： access to higher education, academic organization, and public universities privatization. Therefore, it is important to analyze the public space of relationship between state and civil society constituted for making decisions in this area because its deliberations directly affect public policy development. This paper aims to examine the capacity of Higher Education Chamber （CES） of the National Education Council （CNE） to consolidate civil society participation in decision-making issues concerning Higher Education in the period that includes 1997-2002, The CNE was selected because it is the highest forum for participation： it discusses the problems involved in national education, especially in higher education, whose decisions are taken by CES. The period 1997-2002 was defined because it is the period of President FHC government, after the creation of Law 9.394/96. The official documents and Council documents analysis showed that this public space consolidates the participation because there is an educational process of recognition of civil society issues, although there are restrictions imposed by the government.

商务英语专业的“合”理论探究——兼论《商英国标》

一直以来,人们认为商务英语专业只是一个复合型专业。其实,商务英语专业的构成不仅有复合,而且应该有结合、联合、相合、创合等不同的'合'元素或方法。它们共同构筑商务英语专业的'合'理论体系。复合仅是一个统称,且具有'复'与'合'两重含义。《商英国标》是商务英语专业的一个规范性文件。虽然大部分'合'元素在《商英国标》中已有所体现,但其理论特征尚不明显,体现专业特色的'合'元素——创合,仍显空洞。作为一个独立专业,商务英语专业不能只停留在'拼图式'的'复',更要打造'航母式'的'合',以实现复合增值的初衷。

Autonomy in Scaffolding as Learning in Teacher-Student Negotiation of Meaning in a University EFL Classroom

Based upon sociocultural theory, this study investigates the dynamics of the teacher＇s roles and learner autonomy in the process of scaffolding in teacher-student negotiation of meaning in an EFL classroom, The participants were 25 undergraduate students and a Chinese teacher of English at a university in China. The teacher-student dialogue was the central mechanism mediating the construction of negotiation of meaning and form in language learning. The analysis of classroom discourse and the teacher＇s retrospection from an interview illustrated the teacher＇s different roles in interaction, where scaffolding acted as a structured pedagogical tool. The study revealed that the learners were afforded assistance to progress from other- regulation to self-regulation, and consequently, the teacher exploited opportunities to enhance learner autonomy in negotiation of spaces for autonomy in classroom teaching. The study has probed into the significance of the teacher＇s capacity of controlling scaffolding effectively and generated implications for teacher development and learner training.

An Empirical Study of Meaning Negotiation from the Perspective of Task Characteristics——Task Difficulty and Task Complexity

文章首先概括了意义协商的概念、分类、基本模式、重要作用及其与任务特性——任务难度、复杂度的关系。以此为基础,本研究着重探讨了任务特性——任务复杂度及任务难度对意义协商的质与量的影响。实验中的受试为吉林大学英语专业40名本科生。本实验采用了三种研究方法:4项以小组讨论为主的任务、问卷调查和访谈。本研究的主要发现是:任务复杂度对意义协商的质的影响错综复杂、极不均衡;协调作用不容忽视——认知难度较大的任务,受试所运用语言的复杂度越高,但其准确度、流利度较低;反之亦然;任务的认知难度与意义协商的量相互作用;任务复杂度与任务难度呈正相关。

Exact Periodic Wave Solution of Extended(2+1)-Dimensional Shallow Water Wave Equation with Generalized D_-operators

With the aid of binary Bell polynomial and a general Riemann theta function, we introduce how to obtain the exact periodic wave solutions by applying the generalized Dpˉ-operators in term of the Hirota direct method when the appropriate value of pˉ is determined. Furthermore, the resulting approach is applied to solve the extended(2+1)-dimensional Shallow Water Wave equation, and the periodic wave solution is obtained and reduced to soliton solution via asymptotic analysis.

COMPOSITION OPERATORS ON BERGMAN SPACES

The authors obtain function theoretic characterizations of the compactness on the standardweighted Bergman spaces of the two operators formed by multiplying a composition operatorwith the adjoint of another composition operator.
