The corrosion resistance of Fe-AMMC was investigated by potentiodynamic polarization tests in 1 mol/L HCl, NaCl, H2SO4 and NaOH solutions, respectively. The surface morphologies corroded were observed by SEM. The results indicate that Fe-AMMC exhibits excellent corrosion resistance, higher corrosion resistance than 304L stainless steel in the chloride solutions. The low corrosion current density and passive current density of Fe-AMMC with a wide spontaneous passivation region are about 132.0μA/cm2 and 9.0 mA/cm2 in HCl solution, and about 2.5 μA/cm2 and 2.3 mA/cm2 in NaCl solution. The excellent corrosion resistance demonstrates that Fe-based amorphous metallic matrix powder is a viable engineering material in practical anti-corrosion and anti-wear coating applications.展开更多

Its microstructure, phase composition, micro-hardness, corrosion resistance in 3.5% NaC1 solution and wear resistance were analyzed. The results suggest that the TiN-matrix composite coating is well bonded with the substrate. The micro-hardness measured decreases with the increase of applied test loads. And the micro-hardness of the coating under heavy loads is relatively high. The TiN-matrix composite coating exhibits an excellent corrosion resistance in 3.5% NaC1 solution. The corrosion potential of coating is positive and the passivation zone is broad, which indicates that the TiN-matrix composite coating is stable in the electrolyte and provides excellent protection to the substrate. The wear coefficient of the coating under all loads maintains at 0.49-0.50. The wear mechanism of the coating is revealed to be three-body abrasive wear. Yet the failure forms of TiN-matrix composite coating under different loads have an obvious difference. The failure form of coating under light loads is particle spallation due to the stress concentration while that of coating under heavy loads is crackin~ between inter-lamellae.展开更多

The microstructure and the phase aggregate were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffractometry, respectively. Microhardness, wear resistance and corrosion behavior were assessed using a Vickers microhardness tester, a ball-on-disk wear testing machine and the electrochemical measurement method, respectively. Microstructural studies show that the coatings possess a densely layered structure with the porosity less than 2.1%. The tribological behavior of the coatings examined under dry conditions shows that their relative wear resistance is five times higher than that of the substrate material. Both adhesive wear and abrasive wear contribute to the friction, but the former is the dominant wear mechanism of the metallic glass coatings. The coatings exhibit low passive current density and extremely wide passive region in 3.5% NaCl solution, thus indicating excellent corrosion resistance.展开更多

The corrosion resistance, thermal insulation property and phase composition of these coatings were investigated. The results indicate that all the feedstock powders exhibit phase transformation during the spray process. With the increase of the TiO2 content in the powder, the corrosion resistance of the coating is enhanced but the thermal insulation property is decreased. This can be attributed to the higher thermal conductivity but lower melting point and brittleness of TiO2 than those of Al2O3, so it is easy for TiO2 to disperse in the brittle Al2O3 substrate during spraying, in which these dispersively distributed TiO2 play the role of hole sealing, releasing stress and reducing cracks.展开更多

The influences of oxides on erosion, corrosion and wear behavior for high velocity arc sprayed Fe-Al/Cr3C2 coatings were studied. The results show that HVAS-sprayed Fe-Al/Cr3C2 coatings have good erosion, heat corrosion and wear resistance. The erosion resistance improves with the increase of the temperature. On one hand, the ferrous oxides are incompact, so they peel off the surface of the coatings easily during the high temperature erosion. On the other hand, compact Al2O3 films on the surface can protect the coatings.展开更多

The polarization test, salt spray test and immersion test were used to investigate the corrosion behavior of the coatings in 3.5% NaCl solution. The results suggested that the bilayered Al2O3/ZrO2 coating exhibits superior corrosion resistance when compared with the other coatings. This is ascribed to the presence of very few interconnected pores and stable phases in the coating.展开更多

However, these conventional methods are not very effective because the rudder of ships stern are exposed to very severe corrosive environment such as tides, speeds of ships, cavitations and erosion corrosion. The environmental factors such as cavitation and corrosion will cause damage for materials with the shock wave by the creation and destruction of bubble. To solve these problems, the cavitation and electrochemical experiments are executed for thermal spray coating with Al-Zn alloy wire material. Thereafter, and sealed specimens with F-Si sealer on Al-Zn alloy coated specimen are executed to improve electrochemical and anti-cavitation characteristics in sea water. The application of fluorine silicon sealing after spray coating of 15%Al-85%Zn seems to be appropriate not only in static environment but also in dynamic environment.展开更多

Surface microstructures of the coatings were analyzed by optical microscopy (OM) and X-ray diffractometry (XRD). High temperature erosion (HTE) tests were performed in an erosion tester at different impact angles. The surface morphologies of the eroded coatings were observed on a field emission scanning electron microscope(FE-SEM). The laminated structure is found on all the prepared coatings with the porosity and oxide fraction in the coatings decreasing with the Al content from 0 to 15% (mass fraction). Sample FA3 with 15% Al, possessing the lowest porosity and oxide fraction, has the best HTE resistance, which demonstrates that Al addition can improve the HTE resistance of the coatings. The erosion rate of sample FA1 exhibits a maximum value at 90° impact angle. The maximum erosion rates of both FA2 and FA3 samples appear in the range of 60°-90° impact angles. Erosion loss of the coatings occurs through brittle breaking, cutting and fatigue spalling.展开更多

Third, the results of nozzle erosion in the coupled simulation are compared with those under uniform and chemical equilibrium flow and motor firing test results. The results of simulation and firing tests indicate that the thermochemical erosion of nozzles in hybrid motors should be calculated coupled with flowfields in the motor.
