Methods Sixty geriatric patients over 65 years of age were recrui...Objective To evaluate the epicardial fat tissue thickness (EFTT) as a diagnostic criterion for geriatric patients with metabolic syn- drome (MetS). Methods Sixty geriatric patients over 65 years of age were recruited for the study. Patients were divided into two groups: Group 1 (n = 30) consisted of patients with MetS; Group 2 (n = 30) consisted of patients without MetS. Echocardiography was used to measure EFTT in all patients, and blood samples were analyzed for biochemical parameters. Results Compared to Group 2, EFTT levels of Group 1 were statistically higher (P 〈 0.05). In a binary logistic regression analysis, EFTT levels served as the independent factor for meta- bolic syndrome 03 = 17.35, SE = 4.93, Wald = 12.36, P 〈 0.001). Receivers operating characteristic Curve (ROC-curve) analysis revealed that EFTT predicted MetS with 96.7% sensitivity and 86.7% specificity above the level of 7.3 mm [area under the curve = 0.969; 95% con- fidence interval (CI): 0.928-1.00]. Conclusions The present study demonstrated that serum EFTT levels were higher in geriatric patients with MetS and can therefore be used as a diagnostic criterion for MetS.展开更多

Methods: Immunoh...Objective: This study aims to investigate the clinicopathologic significance of lymphatic vessel invasion (LVI) labeled by D2-40 monoclonal antibody in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). Methods: Immunohistochemical assay was used to detect the expression of D2-40 and LVI in 107 ESCC patients. Then, the correlation between the clinicopathologic feature and the overall survival time of the patients was analyzed. Results: The lymph node metastasis rates were 70% and 21% in the LVI-positive and LVI-negative groups, respectively. The nodal metastasis rate was higher in the LVI-positive group than in the LVI-negative group. Multivariate regression analysis showed that LVI was related to nodal metastasis (P〈0.001). The median survival time of the patients was 26 and 43 months in the LVI-positive and LVI-negative groups, respectively. Mthough univariate regression analysis showed significant difference between the two groups (P=0.014), multivariate regression analysis revealed that LVI was not an independent prognostic factor for overall survival in the ESCC patients (P=0.062). Lymphatic node metastasis (P=0.031), clinical stage (P=0.019), and residual tumor (P=0.026) were the independent prognostic factors. Conclusion: LVI labeled by D2-40 monoclonal antibody is a risk factor predictive of lymph node metastasis in ESCC patients.展开更多
AIM:To investigate screening makers for gastric cancer,we assessed the association between gastric cancer and serum pepsinogens(PGs).METHODS:The subjects comprised 450 patients with gastric cancer,111 individuals with...AIM:To investigate screening makers for gastric cancer,we assessed the association between gastric cancer and serum pepsinogens(PGs).METHODS:The subjects comprised 450 patients with gastric cancer,111 individuals with gastric atrophy,and 961 healthy controls.Serum anti-Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori) immunoglobulin G(IgG),PGⅠand PG Ⅱ were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.Gastric atrophy and gastric cancer were diagnosed by endoscopy and histopathological examinations.Odds ratios and 95%CIs were calculated using multivariate logistic regression.RESULTS:Rates of H.pylori infection remained high in Northeastern China.Rates of H.pylori IgG positivity were greater in the gastric cancer and gastric atrophy groups compared to the control group(69.1% and 75.7% vs 49.7%,P < 0.001).Higher levels of PG Ⅱ(15.9 μg/L and 13.9 μg/L vs 11.5 μg/L,P < 0.001) and lower PGⅠ/PG Ⅱ ratio(5.4 and 4.6 vs 8.4,P < 0.001) were found in patients with gastric cancer or gastric atrophy compared to healthy controls,whereas no correlation was found between the plasma PGⅠconcentration and risk of gastric cancer(P = 0.537).In addition,multivariate logistic analysis indicated that H.pylori infection and atrophic gastritis were independent risk factors for gastric cancer.Lower plasma PGⅠ/PG Ⅱ ratio was associated with higher risks of atrophy and gastric cancer.Furthermore,plasma PG Ⅱ?level?significantly?correlated?with?H.pyloriinfected gastric cancer.CONCLUSION:Serum PG Ⅱ concentration and PG Ⅰ/PG Ⅱ ratio are potential biomarkers for H.pyloriinfected gastric disease.PG Ⅱ is independently associated with risk of gastric cancer.展开更多

In this way, it was verified that the project adopted for strengthening of the structure was not adequate to support the evolution of the maximum load over time and the overload due to widening, and it was also verified that the changes in the load factor do not comply with the update of the Brazilian Technical Standards ABNT: NBR-7188 [1]. The retro-analysis of the bridge rehabilitation project has demonstrated fundamental importance to avoid possible design failings, accidents, and reworks. Affirming that it is essential to comply with Standards and Technical Manuals on the elaboration of the rehabilitation project of structures and in choosing the type of intervention to the existing structure.展开更多

One of the main factors that influence the production rate and energy consumption of rope shovels is the performance of the operator. This paper presents a method for evaluating rope shovel operators using the Multi-Attribute Decision-Making (MADM) model. Data used in this research were collected from an operating surface coal mine in the southern United States. The MADM model consists of attributes, their weights of importance, and alter- natives. Shovel operators are considered the alternatives, The energy consumption model was developed with multiple regression analysis, and its variables were included in the MADM model as attributes. Preferences with respect to min/max of the defined attributes were obtained with multi-objective opti- mization. Multi-objective optimization was conducted with the overall goal of minimizing energy con- sumption and maximizing production rate. Weights of importance of the attributes were determined by the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), The overall evaluation of operators was performed by one of the MADM models, i.e., PROMETHEE If. The research results presented here may be used by mining professionals to held evaluate the performance of rode shovel operators in surface mining.展开更多

In addition to the selection of monitored indicators, we included other indicators from the social sphere, which are funded by mandatory national public expenditure budgets and which are expected to have a positive development in terms of improving the demographic structure of the country--the unemployment rate and the number of live births.展开更多
In this paper, the chaotic dynamics in an attitude transition maneuver of a slosh-spacecraft coupled with flexible appendage in going from minor axis to major axis spin under the influence of dissipative effects due t...In this paper, the chaotic dynamics in an attitude transition maneuver of a slosh-spacecraft coupled with flexible appendage in going from minor axis to major axis spin under the influence of dissipative effects due to fuel slosh and a small flexible appendage constrained to only torsional vibration is investigated. The slosh-spacecraft coupled with flexible appendage in attitude maneuver carrying a sloshing liquid is considered as multi-body system with the sloshing motion modeled as a spherical pendulum. The focus in this paper is that the dynamics of the liquid and flexible appendage vibration are coupled. The equations of motion are derived and transformed into a form suitable for the application of Melnikov’s method. Melnikov’s integral is used to predict the transversal intersections of the stable and unstable manifolds for the perturbed system. An analytical criterion for chaotic motion is derived in terms of system parameters. This criterion is evaluated for its significance to the design of spacecraft. The dependence of the onset of chaos on quantities such as body shape and magnitude of damping values, fuel fraction and torsional vibration frequency of flexible appendage are investigated. In addition, we show that a spacecraft carrying a sloshing liquid, after passive reorientation maneuver, will end up with periodic limit motion other than a final major axis spin because of the intrinsic non-linearity of fuel slosh. Furthermore, an extensive numerical simulation is carried out to validate the Melnikov’s analytical result.展开更多
