The book impresses the reader with Showalter's groundwork to revive the interest in long-forgotten women writers in British literature history. Showalter's work is indeed a kind of rediscovery, mapping widely rather than mining deeply the territory of women's writing. In a sense, feminist criticism came of age with this book.展开更多

She pioneered women's advancement and led the way to enlightening and empowering women breaking all the traditional social barriers. When the whole women folk were utterly distressed, deprived, and drowned under the dirt of illiteracy, fanaticism, superstitions, and prejudices and could not think of equal rights and freedom, she raised her voice through her writings and worked to uplift the fortune of women, instilled a sense of renaissance in them and led them to tasting the flavor of freedom opposed to the current of patriarchal social views. Based on this bold attitude toward female emancipation, Rokeya can easily be acclaimed as a feminist whereas some critics have viewed her as a Muslim or Islamic feminist which is nothing but an immature attempt to underestimate her genius. It was true that she was brought up in an Islamic cultural milieu and tried to educate the then lagged behind Muslim girls which, the critics probably cogitated as the main aim of her life overlooking the universality of women's problems she dealt with and her non-sectarian outlook of life. In fact, she sprang up beyond the limitations the society placed upon her and was boldly vocal about the freedom of women irrespective of their distinctive faiths and social customs. This paper, therefore, aims at exploring Rokeya's Istrijatir Abanati (Woman's Downfall) (1903) with a view to showing her firm determination, endeavors, and voice to emancipate women, and advocating her as a concerned feminist.展开更多

Literature and psychology has been linked together starting from Plato and Aristotle period. In the neuropsychological domain, synaesthesia allows people to combine several perceptions together; while in literature, it magically melts the “voice” of the author’s into the works. To interpret the female voice of the book, this article analyzes the voice of poverty and distress, of pursuing ethnic equality, and of pursuing female independence, on the basis of the psychological perception, synaesthesia, so as to reveal Sandra Cisneros’s feminist voice on the reflections of ethnic Mexican female values by her beautiful naive poetic language, with a pure and innocent tone.展开更多

Leiter focuses on the metaethical question: "What status--metaphysical, epistemological^o the values used to undertake [Nietzsche's] revaluation [of value] (the 'assessing values') enjoy?" (2000, 277). Are these values true or better justified? Leiter describes Schacht's position as a "privilege reading" that holds that the perspective from which Nietzsche revaluates values is privileged on the basis of"normative facts" which are constituted by certain "natural facts" (2000, 279). Leiter attempts to outline and even enhance the argument he sees Schacht making for this position, which Leiter calls a naturalistic realism. Leiter however finds that the arguments for "privilege readings" are insufficient. He concludes that the perspective from which Nietzsche revaluates values is not privileged at all. It is simply the idiosyncratic perspective from which Nietzsche revaluates values. In this paper I argue that a version of Schacht's privilege reading can be supported using two fundamental components of Leiter's interpretation of Nietzsche: his methodological and substantive naturalism. When we use scientific methods and view social systems like other natural systems, we find that in contemporary science a privilege is given to the maximum power principle. This concept was initially conceived by the chemist and mathematician Alfred Lotka and further developed by the ecologist Howard Odum and it has a fundamental similarity to the will to power. This principle provides an empirical foundation for the will to power and Schacht's privilege reading of Nietzsche's metaethics. It provides further evidence that human life is ultimately part of a vast natural process and the growth of all natural systems is made possible by an increase in power.展开更多

In 1938, Pearl Buck won the Nobel Prize, "for her rich and truly epic descriptions of peasant life in China and for her biographical masterpieces"(Liao, 1997:4 ). At the same time, she is also an advocator of feminism in works and in deeds. She concerns women' s problems in China. In fact, she also intends to figure out the reasons why Chinese women have to suffer so many pains. In this thesis, the author attempts to analyze the typical female images in Pearl Buck' s works from the angle of feminism. Then, this thesis pays much attention to probing into the reasons which lead to the conslruction of Pearl Buck' s feminism consciousness in Pearl Buck' s whole life. The aim of this paper lies in having a better understanding of Pearl Buck and her works from the aspect of feminism. In a word, with the development of globalization, people have paid more attention to feminism. As far as I am concerned, under this background, it will be efficient to do some studies on Pearl Buck from the angle of feminism.展开更多

In the tide of globalization and information technology, geopolitics has become an important subject for global pattern interpretation and policy making. It is essentially important to have a scientific and systematic review on international geopolitics to promote its development. Based on the bibliometric statistics, the paper reviews the research development of geopolitics on the Web of Science from 1996 to 2015. The history, journals, papers and key research areas of geopolitics have been revealed in the paper. By the analysis of bibliometric statistics, the number of papers recently published in the journals of political geography and related geography journals continues to increase. The key areas of geopolitical papers which are globally highly cited include geopolitical interpretation of the countries and borders, critical geopolitics, emotional geopolitics, feminist geopolitics and other topics. Before the year of 2000, the state and borders were hot topics of the geopolitical research. Yet since 2000, it has been the trend that the geopolitics is increasingly set in the context of geographical implications. At the same time, critical geopolitics appears to be the main area of geopolitical research, especially transitioning from traditional geopolitics towards the humanism-embeddedness(such as emotional geopolitics, feminist geopolitics). The paper then systematically reviews the branch trends of geopolitical research, including the borders and the territory, global geo-culture and geo-economics, Chinese models of geopolitics, resource conflicts and ecological politics, as well as emotional geopolitics. Finally, it puts forward the implication that Chinese geopolitical studies should reinforce the importance of geographical space and scale, use the process of description and multiple methods, as well as integrate humanistic thoughts, in order to further enrich the theories and practices of geopolitical research.展开更多

Its construction requires prolonged effort and a comprehensive grasp of modernity, the laws of social development and the overall logic of social development, as well as an all-around readjustment of concepts, institutions and behaviors. Within the concrete and historical unity of rights and responsibilities, "the unity of limited global rights and limited global responsibilities" is an important principle for constructing global development equity. Declarations that China is practicing neo-colonialism are in fact inherently associated with Eurocentrism. The peaceful, joint and comprehensive development of China and other developing countries and China's historical advancement of global development equity are practical refutations of such assertions.展开更多
