The discrete model is directly built on the lattices, and the greedy algorithm is used in the implementation to continually decrease the energy function. First, regarding the gray values in images as discrete-valued random variables makes it possible to make a much simpler estimation of conditional entropy. Secondly, a uniform method within the level set framework for two-phase and multiphase segmentations without extension is presented. Finally, a more accurate approximation to the curve length on lattices with multi-labels is proposed. The experimental results show that, compared with the continuous Kim-Fisher model, the proposed model can obtain comparative results, while the implementation is much simpler and the runtime is dramatically reduced.展开更多

Three dominant artifact types are analyzed and eliminated by an optimized imaging condition. We discuss a previously unsolved beam-like artifact, which is probably caused by the cross-correlation of downward transmitting and upward scattering waves from both the source and receiver side of a single seismic shot. This artifact has relatively strong cross- correlation but carries no useful information from reflectors. The beam-like artifact widely exists in pre-stack imaging and has approximately the same amplitude as useful seismic signals. In most cases, coherent artifacts in the image are caused by directionally propagating energy. Based on propagation angles obtained by wavefield gradients, we identify the artifact energy and subtract its contribution in the imaging condition. By this process most artifacts can be accurately eliminated, including direct wave artifacts, scattering artifacts, and beam- like artifacts. This method is independent of the wavefield propagator and is easy to adapt to almost all current wave equation migration methods if needed. As this method deals with the physical artifact origins, little damage is caused to the seismic signal. Extra k-domain filtering can additionally enhance the stacking result image quality. This method succeeds in the super-wide-angle one-way migration and we can expect its success in other two-way wave equation migrations and especially in reverse time migration.展开更多

We have developed a fiberoptic microneedle device for inducing local sub-lethal hyperthermia to further improve CED drug distribution volumes, and this study seeks to quantitatively characterize this approach in agarose tissue phantoms. Infusions of dye were conducted in 0.6% (w/w) agarose tissue phantoms with isothermal conditions at 15 ℃, 20℃, 25 ℃, and 30 ℃. Infusion metrics were quantified using a custom shadowgraphy setup and image- processing algorithm. These data were used to build an empirical predictive temporal model of distribution volume as a function of phantom temperature. A second set of proof- of-concept experiments was conducted to evaluate a novel fiberoptic device capable of generating local photothermal heating during fluid infusion. The isothermal infusions showed a positive correlation between temperature and distribution volume, with the volume at 30℃ showing a 7-fold increase at 100 min over the 15 ℃ isothermal case. Infusions during photothermal heating (1064 nm at 500 mW) showed a similar effect with a 3.5-fold increase at 4 h over the control (0 mW). These results and analyses serve to provide insight into and characterization of heat-mediated enhancement of volumetric dispersal.展开更多

First, pre-process of the image using median filter is made to reduce the effect of noise. Second, watershed algorithm is employed to provide initial regions. Third, regions are merged according to the information between the region and boundary. In the merger processing based on the region information, an adaptive threshold of the difference between the neighboring regions is used as the region merge criteria, which is based on the human visual character. In the merger processing on the boundary information, the gradient is used to judge the true boundary of the image to avoid merging the foreground with the background regions. Finally, post-process to the regions using mathematical morphology open and close filter is done to smooth object boundaries. The experimental results show that this method is very efficient.展开更多

The stability condition depends explicitly on smoothness of the image sequence, size of image domain, value of the regularization parameter, and finally discretization step. Specifically, as the discretization step approaches to zero, stability holds unconditionally. The analysis also clarifies relations among the iterative algorithm, the original variation formulation and the PDE system. The proper regularity of solution and natural images is briefly surveyed and discussed. Experimental results validate the theoretical claims both on convergence and exponential stability.展开更多
