Reuse of clips in cartoon animation based on language instructions

This paper describes a new framework for reusing hand-drawn cartoon clips based on language understanding ap- proach. Our framework involves two stages: a preprocessing phase, in which a hand-drawn clip library with mixed architecture is constructed, and the on-line phase, in which the domain dependent language instructions parsing is carried out and clips in the clip library are matched by use of some matching values calculated from the information derived from instruction parsing. An im- portant feature of our approach is its ability to preserve the artistic quality of clips in the produced cartoon animations.

The Significance of Image Schema in Embodied Cognition

As a recurring pattern of sensory-motor-affective experience, image schema is not only a concept discussed in linguistics and psychology, but also a significant one in the study of embodied cognition. Through analyzing the features of image schema considered by the authors as embodiment, recessiveness, sedimentation, logicality, scientificity, and dependency to cognitive metaphors and reviewing the definition of embodied cognition, the paper argues that image schema is an integration of bodily property and mental property, and accordingly a core and inseparable concept of embodied cognition by bridging body and mind. Image schema can help to explain how abstraction and inference generate from body-environment interactions, thus making the theory of embodied cognition more persuasive and reliable.

A Probe Into CLT Pedagogical Implications for English Majors in China's Mainland： A Holistic Educational Paradigm

Notwithstanding the tremendous progress of foreign language teaching （FLT） and foreign language education （FLE） in China's Mainland, there still remain large-scale margins as reflective argumentation on the issue of methodology, pedagogy, and educational paradigm to probe into. Among each respective margin concerning this FLT and FLE, this paper deepens the aspects of methodological approach of communicative language teaching （CLT） and holistic educational paradigm. Furthermore, this paper elaborates the current dominant teaching status and makes discussion on the topic of harmony between English teaching and using, taking Basic English course for English majors in China's Mainland as the case study.

Schema Theory and Business English Teaching

Schema Theory, which emphasizes on the effects of existing knowledge on language learning, has been applied into varied areas of language teaching. And BE （business English）, on the other hand, is drawn more and more attentions as a specialized usage of language. This paper will probe into the application of Schema Theory into BE teaching through discussing three types of schemata. In order to facilitate learning, BE teachers should help students modify their exiting schemata, such as teaching them the terminology used in BE, and the factual and socio-cultural knowledge of the business, and improve their ability to speak and listen English in business

Jigsaw Strategy as a Cooperative Learning Technique:Focusing on the Language Learners

拼图式教学法是一种合作学习的技巧。自从此教学法创立以来,研究者和教师们一直在不同层次和不同学科的课堂上以各种各样的方式研究它。然而,本研究不同于以往的研究,其目的在于探索在大学英语课堂上能否成功地运用拼图式教学,将听、读、重复、背诵、复述以及写融为一体(即L+4R+W),完成教学任务。课堂实施拼图式教学实验后,研究者进行了问卷调查,分析了调查结果,并提出相关的看法。在英语作为外语的课堂上实施拼图式教学策略可以使语言学习者成为课堂的中心,使语言学习成为学习者之间相互依赖而不是彼此独立的活动。本研究得出的结论是:拼图式教学策略不仅是英语作为外语的课堂上以语言学习者为中心来完成学习任务的有用技巧,而且是督促学生参与课堂活动、调动学生学习热情的一种有效方式。
