These procedures implement automatic image segmentation in order to classify cell types as cancerous or noncancerous. The authors have developed a new approach aiming to detect colon cancer cells derived from the "Snake" method but using a progressive division of the dimensions of the image to achieve rapid segmentation. The aim of the present paper was to classify different cancerous cell types based on nine morphological parameters and on probabilistic neural network. Three types of cells were used to assess the efficiency of our classifications models, including BH (Benign Hyperplasia), IN (Intraepithelial Neoplasia) that is a precursor state for cancer, and Ca (Carcinoma) that corresponds to abnormal tissue proliferation (cancer). Results showed that among the nine parameters used to classify cells, only three morphologic parameters (area, Xor convex and solidity) were found to be effective in distinguishing the three types of cells. In addition, classification of unknown cells was possible using this method.展开更多

However, due to the inherent correlation between spectral bands and within-class variability in the data, the data processing of HHR is a challenging work. In this paper, based on spectral mixture analysis theory, a new stack of parts description features were extracted, and then incorporated with a stack of morphology based spatial features. Partially supervised constrained energy minimization (CEM) and unsupervised nonnegative matrix factorization (NMF) were used to extract the part-features. The joint features were then integrated by SVM classifier. The advantages of this method are the representation of physical composition of the urban area by the parts-features and the show of multi-scale structure information by morphology profiles. Experiments with an airborne hyper-spectral data flightline over the Washington DC Mall were performed, and the performance of the proposed algorithm was evaluated in comparison with well-known nonparametric weighted feature extraction (NWFE) and feature selection method. The results shown that the proposed features-joint scheme consistently outperforms the traditional methods, and so can provide an effective option for processing HHR data in urban area.展开更多

In order to gain new insights in DNA sequences, this paper combined the digitized methods of single-base, base pairs and coding in triplet bases with the times of base appearing, and then a novel 4D graphical representation method of DNA sequences was put forward. It was a one-to-one correspondence of the arbitrary DNA sequence and 4D graphical representation, that avoided causing non-unique 4D graphical representation and overlapping lines. The method could reflect the biological information features of DNA sequence more comprehensively and effectively without any losses. Based on the 4D graphical representation, we used the geometric center of 4D graphical representation as eigenvalue of DNA sequences analyses, which kept the original features of the data, and then established the Euclidean distances and included angles between vectors' ter- minal point for similarity analyses of the first extron of the beta-globulin gene among 11 species. Finally, we established the graph of systematic hierarchical cluster analysis of 11 species to observe more easily the relationship between species. A positive outcome was reached, and the results were in accord with biological taxonomy, which also supported the rationality and effectiveness of the novel 4D graphical representation.展开更多
