A two-level Bregmanized method with graph regularized sparse coding (TBGSC) is presented for image interpolation. The outer-level Bregman iterative procedure enforces the observation data constraints, while the inner-level Bregmanized method devotes to dictionary updating and sparse represention of small overlapping image patches. The introduced constraint of graph regularized sparse coding can capture local image features effectively, and consequently enables accurate reconstruction from highly undersampled partial data. Furthermore, modified sparse coding and simple dictionary updating applied in the inner minimization make the proposed algorithm converge within a relatively small number of iterations. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can effectively reconstruct images and it outperforms the current state-of-the-art approaches in terms of visual comparisons and quantitative measures. 展开更多

Such data are called graph structured data. In order to manage efficiently such graph structured data, we need to analyze and abstract graph structures of such data. The purpose of this paper is to find knowledge representations which indicate plural abstractions of graph structured data. Firstly, we introduce a term graph as a graph pattern having structural variables, and a substitution over term graphs which is graph rewriting system. Next, for a graph G, we define a multiple layer ( g,(θ 1,…,θ k )) of G as a pair of a term graph g and a list of k substitutions θ 1,…,θ k such that G can be obtained from g by applying substitutions θ 1,…,θ k to g. In the same way, for a set S of graphs, we also define a multiple layer for S as a pair ( D,Θ ) of a set D of term graphs and a list Θ of substitutions. Secondly, for a graph G and a set S of graphs, we present effective algorithms for extracting minimal multiple layers of G and S which give us stratifying abstractions of G and S, respectively. Finally, we report experimental results obtained by applying our algorithms to both artificial data and drawings of power plants which are real world data. 展开更多

This paper presents an inexpensive method for self-similarity based editing of real-world 3D surface textures by using height and albedo maps. Unlike self-similarity based 2D texture editing approaches which only make changes to pixel color or inten- sity values, this technique also allows surface geometry and reflectance of the captured 3D surface textures to be edited and relit us- ing illumination conditions and viewing angles that differ from those of the original. A single editing operation at a given location affects all similar areas and produces changes on all images of the sample rendered under different conditions. Since surface height and albedo maps can be used to describe seabed topography and geologic features, which play important roles in many oceanic proc- esses, the proposed method can be effectively employed in applications regarding visualization and simulation of oceanic phenom- ena. 展开更多

The new Great Tradition transforms the opposition between the Great and Little Tradition of American anthropology, and makes the new concepts gain the legitimacy of the cultural values transferred from the old terms. It dates the second coded significance of the written culture from the material narrative and the image narrative of the oral tradition, and highlights the generative and primary of the symbolic significance. It also questions the authenticity of the written representation, endows the truth and credibility to the material and image representation, and manifests the imaginative and expression of the early human culture. Though its theoretical innovation inverts the binary opposition structure, and it wants to jump out of knowledge limits of dual structure such as structure and destruction, objective and subjective, material and spiritual. 展开更多

Numerous long-span bridges have been built throughout the world in recent years.These bridges are progressively damaged by continuous usage throughout their long service life.The failure of local structural components is detrimental to the performance of the entire bridge,furthermore,detecting the local abnormality at an early stage is difficult.This paper explores a novel damage detection method for long-span bridges by incorporating stress influence lines(SILs)in control charts,and validates the efficacy of the method through a case study of the Tsing Ma Suspension Bridge.Damage indices based on SILs are subsequently proposed and applied to hypothetical damage scenarios in which one or two critical bridge components are subjected to severe damage.The comparison study suggests that the first-order difference of SIL change is an accurate indicator for location of the damage.To some extent,different levels of damage can be quantified by using SILs incorporating with X-bar control chart.Results of this study indicate that the proposed SIL-based method offers a promising technique for damage detection in long-span bridges. 展开更多

Second, by referring to the graphical structure of BCNs, a necessary and sufficient condition for the decomposition w.r.t. outputs is obtained based on graph theory method. The dynamic wetting characteristics of water droplets on silicon wafers with microscale regular pillars structures and fresh lotus leaves are investigated experimentally.We measured the static contact angle,contact angle hysteresis,and roll-off angle of water droplets on both of these superhydrophobic surfaces with a high speed contact angle meter.The dynamic contact angles and internal velocity distribution of water droplets on superhydrophobic surfaces were studied with a high-speed camera system and a particle image velocimetry (PIV) system,respectively.We found that the acceleration of water droplets when they slide off lotus leaves is greater than that of water droplets sliding off the silicon wafers with microscale pillar structures although the static contact angles of water droplets on lotus leaves are slightly smaller than those on the silicon wafers.The reason is that water droplets sliding off lotus leaves have smaller contact angle hysteresis and larger slip velocities.These results indicate that the dynamic contact angle hysteresis and sliding acceleration of liquid droplets are more suitable for reflecting the hydrophobicity of material surfaces compared with static contact angles.Our experiments also show that lotus leaves with multiscale micro/nanostructures have stronger hydrophobicity and self-cleaning properties compared with the micro-structured superhydrophobic surfaces. 展开更多

The nonsymmetry and antipacking pattern representation model (NAM), inspired by the concept of the packing problem, uses a set of subpatterns to represent an original pattern. The NAM is a promising method for image representation because of its ability to focus on the interesting subsets of an image. In this paper, we develop a new method for gray-scale image representation based on NAM, called NAM-structured plane decomposition (NAMPD), in which each subpattern is associated with a rectangular region in the image. The luminance function of pixels in this region is approximated by an oblique plane model. Then, we propose a new and fast edge detection algorithm based on NAMPD. The theoretical analyses and experimental results presented in this paper show that the edge detection algorithm using NAMPD performs faster than the classical ones because it permits the execution of operations on subpatterns instead of pixels. 展开更多
