The results show that the pH values of rhizosphere soil for all the plant ations except the pure walnut stand, which was slightly higher, were lower than those of bulk soils, while the organic matter contents in the rhizosphere soil f or all the plantations except the mixed plantation, which was slightly lower, we re higher than that in bulk soil. There exists a relative nitrogen accumulation in the rhizosphere and the extent to which the nitrogen accumulates is closely r elated to tree species and mixed pattern. As far as the total P and K contents a re considered, there exists a deficient tendency in rhizosphere in comparison wi th bulk soil. The element N, P and K are all mobilized in the rhizosphere of the pure or mixed plantation, characterized by the higher contents of the available N, P and K in the rhizosphere. The available N content in the rhizosphere of th e larch in mixed plantation was obviously higher than that of its pure plantatio n, whereas the available P and K contents in the rhizosphere of walnut in the mi xed plantation, on the other hand, were significantly higher than those of its p ure plantation.展开更多

[Method] Soil samples were col ected in depth at 0-20 and 20-40 cm from the sites in or out of tree canopy scope in jujube orchards with 3, 5 and 7 plan-ning-years, to analyze contents of available N, P and K, organic matter, total N, salts, and trace elements, as wel as changes of nutritional elements. [Result] Avail-able boron, copper, iron, manganese, zinc and available potassium in soils of jujube orchards with 3, 5 and 7 years planting history reduced as planting year increased, which coincided with that in the soil of 20-40 cm. [Conclusion] Because trace ele-ments are never applied in southern Xinjiang, available B, Cu, Fe, Mn, and Zn and available K would be consumed by tree root growth. Due to root distribution differ-ences and ploughing effects in fields, the contents of nutrients tend to be volatile in or out of tree canopy scope. Tree root in deeper soils absorbs more nutrients, and soil nutrients would decrease dramatical y if additional chemical fertilizers are not provided, leading to soil degradation.展开更多

Results showed that there were certain relationship between contents of nutrient elements in tobacco-planting soils and contents of corresponding elements in tobacco leaves; various elements exhibited different influences on the aroma quality of flue-cured tobacco. Based on the actual situation of nutrient contents in soils from different tobaccoproducing areas, contents of various elements in tobacco leaves should be regulated by soil fertilization and foliar spraying, thereby improving the aroma quality of flue-cured tobacco.展开更多
Tailings are the residue of mined material after separation of metals such as copper, gold and silver elements. Separation of minerals involves crushing of the host material to fine particles and separation of the met...Tailings are the residue of mined material after separation of metals such as copper, gold and silver elements. Separation of minerals involves crushing of the host material to fine particles and separation of the metals by flotation or other technique. The total amount of tailings produced by Freeport Indonesia from their Grasberg mine is about 230,000 tons/day. These tailings are deposited in a lowland area and are confined by two levees. There are two types of plant growth on inactive tailings according to land use (natural succession area or reclaimed agricultural area). This study of soil fertility on the mine tailing was required to contribute to information on the management oftailings. Representative sampling locations were chosen based on particle size distribution with soil (0- 5 50 cm depth) being subjected to laboratory analysis. Total N soil is very low (〈 0.02%), CEC (≤20 me/100 g) low to medium, and organic-C ranges from 0.1-2%. oH is 7-8 resulting in the low availability of some nutrients, but values of extractable Cu may be high (≥ 300 mg/kg). Nutrient elements are more abundant in soils on fine textured tailings.展开更多
