The measured data were analyzed by using statistical regression method and the empirical regression model of retrieving soil moisture in L-band and C-band was developed. The soil moisture in a rainfall event was retrieved using the experiential regression model, which is consistent well with the field sampling value. The results show that when soil moisture is lower than 75%, the brightness temperature is linear with soil moisture. However, when soil moisture is higher than 75%, the brightness temperature is not linear with soil moisture, so it is difficult for microwave radiometer to measure the changes of soil moisture. The experiment verifies the effectiveness and feasibility of microwave remote sensing soil moisture. Although this method for linear regression based on the data measured with the radiometer is simple, and has strong adaptability, generally it has only local application value, and lacks universal applicability for different areas and different conditions.展开更多

This study was carried out in a productive forest of Greece, the resistance of the soil in connection with the moisture and the category of the native stone, the pressure that tires of tractors exert in the soil, are estimated. It also estimated the percentage of the trees in the remaining stand which suffer damages from the movement of various means. The above means are used for the skidding of wood of different lengths. According to the results of the research some measures are suggested so as to decrease the damages, which are caused in the soil and in the remaining stand.展开更多

As the first step for dynamic seismic response analysis, the free vibration of long large cross-section underground structures is studied in the present paper. The general free transverse vibration motion equation of long large cross-section underground structure is derived with the comprehensive consideration of internal and external damping, effects of shear, cross-sectional rotational inertia and axial force, and a twoparameter soil model. In this way, Timoshenko's beam theory is extended. Two limit cases of free transverse vibration of underground structures are discussed. Parameter study shows that in general wave propagation velocities in structures increase with soil elastic parameters. However the influence of Winkler's parameter k is significant while the effect of the second soil elastic parameter gp is insignificant. The free vibration frequency of underground structures increases with relative wave number and soil elastic parameters. Unlike the influence of soil elastic parameters on wave propagation velocities, the influence of soil elastic parameters k and gp on the vibration frequency of underground structures have the same order; therefore the influence of the second soil parameter gp on the free vibration of underground structures should not be neglected in dynamic seismic analysis of underground structures展开更多

In this study, two adjacent soil profiles (LP and LPM) with different slopes from Yah'an, Shaanxi Province, were investigated using magnetic methods to determine the impact of topography on magnetic properties of soil. Our results show that although LP and LPM have similar magnetic minerals and grain size distribution, both the average and max- imum magnetic susceptibility (Z) of LP are almost doubled compared to those of LPM. In addition, the ratios of susceptibility enhancement to the background (Ez) for LP and LPM are 2.27 and 2.04, respectively; the ratios of saturation isothermal rem- nant magnetization (SIRM) enhancement (EsIRM) for these two profiles are 1.80 and 1.86, respectively. The slopes of the linear regression trends between frequency-dependent susceptibility (ZFD) and "hard" isothermal remnant magnetization (HIRM) (ZFD/HIRM), Anhysteretic remnant magnetization (ARM) and HIRM (ARM/HIRM), are almost free from the effect of parent material. XFD/HIRMs for LP and LPM are 28.7×10 5 and 28.9×10 5 A m^-1, respectively; ARM/HIRMs are 0.35 and 0.33 for LP and LPM, respectively. These results demonstrate that parameters, ZFD/HIRM, ARM/HIRM, Ez and ESIRM, are affected less by parent material and topography, which are better than the Z for bulk samples to indicate the paleoclimatic conditions (e.g., the paleorainfall) in a large-scale region.展开更多
