In order to study the fatigue behavior of the damaged reinforced concrete (RC) beams strengthened by carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) laminate, three T-shaped beams strengthened by CFRP and one contrasting b...In order to study the fatigue behavior of the damaged reinforced concrete (RC) beams strengthened by carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) laminate, three T-shaped beams strengthened by CFRP and one contrasting beam are tested under fatigue loading, with the parameters of different modes of strengthening and different fatigue load levels considered. The main results obtained from the tests are: the width of the crack decreases 50. 2% to 66%, and the development of the crack is limited; the stress of steel decreases 24. 1% to 28. 2%, and the stiffness increases 14.9% to 16. 1% after being strengthened. Based on the technical specification for strengthening concrete structures with CFRP and the conclusions from the tests, a calculating scheme of the flexure stiffness is given, which can be used for reference in engineering design. Finally, some suggestions are given for design in fatigue strengthening.展开更多

The electrostatically bonded (EB)-H^+ and EB-Al^(3+) acidities constituted 33 and 67percent of exchangeable acidity while EB-H^+, EB-Al^(3+), exchangeable and pH-dependent aciditiescomprised 6, 14, 20 and 80 percent of total potential acidity. The pH-dependent acidity made a majorcontribution towards the total potential acidity (67%~84%). Grand mean of lime requirementdetermined by the laboratory incubation method and estimated by the methods of New Woodruff,Woodruff and Peech as expressed in MgCaCO_3 ha^(-1) was in the order: Woodruff (15.6) > New Woodruff(14.9) > Peech (5.1) > incubation (5.0). Correlations analysis among different forms of acidity andlime requirement methods with selected soil properties showed that pH in three media, namely water,1 mol L^(-1) KC1 and 0.01 mol L^(-1) CaCl_2, had a significant negative correlation with differentforms of acidity and lime requirement methods. Exchangeable Fe and Al showed significant positivecorrelations with EB-Al^(3+) acidity, exchangeable acidity, pH-dependent acidity and total potentialacidity, and also lime requirement methods. Extractable Al showed positive correlations withdifferent forms of acidity except EB-H^+ and EB-Al^(3+) acidities. The lime requirement by differentmethods depended upon the extractable aluminium. Significant positive correlations existed betweenlime requirements and different forms of acidity of the soils except EB-H^+ acidity and incubationmethod. Khan) in the Northwest Frontier Province (NWPP) of Pakistan to compare various management practices, such as the effect of various organic manures and gypsum in a rice-wheat cropping system on a saline-sodic Entisol (Zindani soil series). The treatments consisted of 1) a control (rice-wheat), 2) gypsum, 3) farmyard manure (FYM), 4) berseem (Trifolium alexzndrinum L.) as green manure (GM), and 5) dhancha (Sesbania sp.) as GM. All treatments increased yields of both rice and wheat significantly (P < 0.01) over the control, with the green manure treatments proving more economical than the others; while they decreased pH, electrical conductivity (EC), and sodium adsorption ratio (SAR) of the soil. The updated Lagrange method and the elasto-plastic constitutive equation were adopted to solve the large strain and displacement deformation of the blade. A modified Coulomb friction model was used to solve the sliding contact between the blade and the dies. The von Mises stress distribution in the blade, the spatial displacement variation and the spring-back of the typical node were investigated in the simulation. The von Mises stress in the blade where the spring-back occurs is lowered from 463.0MPa to 150.0MPa before and after the spring-back. A typical node in the blade has a 3.33mm spring-back in Z direction. The results of the (experiments) agree well with the simulation. The analysis results are valuable for designing optimal tool dies.展开更多

As a result of this projection, the government responded by shifting 80,000 ha of low-efficiency rice ...Forecasters predict that by 2020 there will be 4.5 or 5 million tons per annum maize supply deficiency in Vietnam. As a result of this projection, the government responded by shifting 80,000 ha of low-efficiency rice production areas into maize production (2014-2015) and this area of production for maize is expected to increase to 150,000 ha by 2016-2020. Nevertheless, not all commercial maize hybrids could be suitable for rice-growing land in the Mekong Delta and a national project of hybrid maize development for Mekong Delta has been conducted since early 2014. In the project, yield trials of 20 maize hybrids, sourced from Vietnamese institutions and the private sector including Syngenta (NK67) and Dekalb (DK9901), were sown in Dong Thap, Hau Giang and Long An provinces situated in the Mekong Delta, in minor acid sulphate soils with a pH of 5.0-5.5. The trial included three replications in an Alpha lattice design conducted during spring-summer in 2014. The hybrids flowered at 50-52 d after planting and physiologically matured between 93-97 d after planting. This suggested they would be suitable for cropping systems, which was comprised of three seasons per year. To determine which hybrid is best suited for the region, researchers evaluated yield and ear characteristics. The average yield of the genotypes across locations was 52.03, 54.92 and 57.60 quintals/ha, respectively, and the heritability of genotypes in each location was 0.51, 0.81 and 0.61, respectively. The mean yield of DK9901 was 58.19 quintals/ha, ranking the 7th among 20 hybrids, and NK67 was 47.58 quintals/ha, ranking the 19th. The grand mean was 54.92 quintals/ha and heritability for all genotypes was 0.79. The highest yield was produced by the Southern seed company hybrid SSC474 (69.39 quintals/ha), which yielded significantly more maize than DK9901 (58.19 quintals/ha) at P 〈 0.05, followed by VS71 from National Maize Research Institute (NMRI) at 63.52 quintals/ha, and LCH9A from NMRI at 63.39 quintals/ha. Although the yield of the VS71 hybrid was greater than the DK9901 hybrid, the ear characteristics were less desirable. Therefore, after comparing these hybrids, it was concluded that SSC474 and LCH9A were the two most suitable hybrids to produce in the Mekong Delta.展开更多
In order to evaluate the impact of off-road terrains on the ride comfort of construction vehicles,a nonlinear dynamic model of the construction vehicles interacting with the terrain deformations is established based o...In order to evaluate the impact of off-road terrains on the ride comfort of construction vehicles,a nonlinear dynamic model of the construction vehicles interacting with the terrain deformations is established based on Matlab/Simulink software.The weighted root mean square(RMS)acceleration responses and the power spectral density(PSD)acceleration responses of the driver s seat heave,the pitch and roll angle of the cab in the low-frequency region are chosen as objective functions under different operation conditions of the vehicle.The results show that the impact of off-road terrains on the driver s ride comfort and health is clear under various conditions of deformable terrains and range of vehicle velocities.In particular,the driver s ride comfort is greatly affected by a soil terrain while the comfortable shake of the driver is strongly affected by a sand terrain.In addition,when the vehicle travels on a poor soil terrain in the frequency range below 4 Hz,more resonance peaks of acceleration PSD responses occurred than that on a rigid road of ISO 2631-1 level C.Thus,the driver s health is significantly affected by the deformable terrain in a low-frequency range.展开更多

Allocating and optimizing the layout of bicycle-sharing system inside the sceni...Bicycle-sharing system is considered as a green option to provide a better connection between scenic spots and nearby metro/bus stations. Allocating and optimizing the layout of bicycle-sharing system inside the scenic spot and around its influencing area are focused on. It is found that the terrain, land use, nearby transport network and scenery point distribution have significant impact on the allocation of bicycle-sharing system. While the candidate bicycle-sharing stations installed at the inner scenic points, entrances/exits and metro stations are fixed, the ones installed at bus-stations and other passenger concentration buildings are adjustable. Aiming at minimizing the total cycling distance and overlapping rate, an optimization model is proposed and solved based on the idea of cluster concept and greedy heuristic. A revealed preference/stated preference (RP/SP) combined survey was conducted at Xuanwu Lake in Nanjing, China, to get an insight into the touring trip characteristics and bicycle-sharing tendency. The results reveal that 39.81% visitors accept a cycling distance of 1-3 km and 62.50% respondents think that the bicycle-sharing system should charge an appropriate fee. The sttrvey indicates that there is high possibility to carry out a bicycle-sharing system at Xuanwu Lake. Optimizing the allocation problem cluster by cluster rather than using an exhaustive search method significantly reduces the computing amount from O(2^43) to O(43 2). The 500 m-radius-coverage rate for the alternative optimized by 500 m-radius-cluster and 800 m-radius-cluster is 89.2% and 68.5%, respectively. The final layout scheme will provide decision makers engineering guidelines and theoretical support.展开更多
