In this paper, a dynamic fault model is proposed to predict yarn end breakage in the spinning procedure through investigation of fault characteristics. In view of the principle that uniformity bad in raw material causes iustable yarn formation, the investigation focuses on the fault characteristic existing in the dynamic tension. Analyzing the dynamic spinning system, the phenomenon of over random shock in a spinning triangle is discovered to be the main physical event prior to yarn end breakage. The fault characteristic is further confirmed by dynamic tests and signal processing, and can be used to make an approach to predicting yarn end breakage. A relative energy feature is defined for evaluating the tendency of yarn end breakage, and its effectiveness is verified by on.line monitoring tests in the laboratory. The research results show that the proposed dynamic fault model has not only an advantage in indicating the presence of fault characteristics, but also great potentials in quantitating fault in online spinning monitoring. 展开更多

Effective model based fault detection scheme for rudder servo system

The inherent nonlinearities of the rudder servo system(RSS) and the unknown external disturbances bring great challenges to the practical application of fault detection technology. Modeling of whole rudder system is a challenging and difficult task. Quite often, models are too inaccurate, especially in transient stages. In model based fault detection, these inaccuracies might cause wrong actions. An effective approach, which combines nonlinear unknown input observer(NUIO) with an adaptive threshold, is proposed. NUIO can estimate the states of RSS asymptotically without any knowledge of external disturbance. An adaptive threshold is used for decision making which helps to reduce the influence of model uncertainty. Actuator and sensor faults that occur in RSS are considered both by simulation and experimental tests. The observer performance, robustness and fault detection capability are verified. Simulation and experimental results show that the proposed fault detection scheme is efficient and can be used for on-line fault detection. 展开更多

The corrective machining to compensate the resulting errors is usually tried at plural times based on the trial-and-error process when the machining is realized in die and mold manufacturing. This corrective machining has an influence on accuracy and efficiency and is an important factor. The measurement system for measuring the forms of die and mold at all times is essential in order to machine the die and mold with high accuracy and efficiency. However, the problems of management and operation errors are found in compensating process of die and mold machining. In this paper, an online machining and measurement system in die and mold manufacturing is developed in order to overcome these problems. In this online system, 2-axis control system is added to a surface roughness measuring instrument, and both NC machining program and measured data are linked and controlled using a same computer. Therefore, the machining and measurement can be recognized for consistent process, and can be realized on the machine. This system has the advantages such as the high accuracy, low-price, and online convenience and so on. The possibility of practical use of this online system was investigated by fundamental experiments. 展开更多

Oil monitoring constitutes an important and essential component of condition monitoring technologies and has distinguished advantages in revealing wear,lubrication and friction conditions of tribo-pairs.Newly developed on-line/in-line oil monitoring technologies extend the merits into real-time applications and demonstrate significant benefits in maintenance and management of equipment.This paper comprehensively reviews the progress of on-line/in-line oil monitoring techniques including sensor technologies,their scopes and industrial applications.Based on the existing developments and applications of the sensors for oil quality and wear debris measurements,the trends for future sensor developments are discussed with focuses on accurate,integrated and intelligent features along with exploring a fundamental issue,that is,acquiring the knowledge on degradation mechanisms which has not received sufficient attention until now.Current status of applications of on-line oil monitoring is also reviewed.Although limited reports have been found on this topic,increasing awareness and encouraging progress in on-line monitoring techniques are recognized in applications such as aircraft,shipping,railway,mining,etc.Key fundamental issues for further extending the on-line oil monitoring techniques in industries are proposed and they include long-term reliability of sensors in harsh conditions,and agreement with fault or maintenance determination. 展开更多
