In addition, the Article 8 of the Ordinance of City Planning Law resulted in not so effective against tsunami in March 2011. Control mechanisms of building construction should be integrated into socio-economic, institutional, technical and other policy tools. In order to mitigate earthquake risk, all stages of building construction, from location, planning and construction to maintenance are important. Awareness creation is instrumental for building culture of safety and demands for intervention in disaster mitigation. The demands ultimately help in creating conducive environment for policy intervention, in realizing institutional mechanism of building code enforcement and land use control for the municipal authorities and in creating demand for competent professionals.展开更多

The paper investigates the activities of a small group of Italian wine producers and farmers within the agricultural landscape around Piacenza, and the way they influence the transformation of local urban and rural environments through either the application of the principles promoted by the Slow Food organization, or the creation of alternative “unofficial” strategies. Through the analysis of documents relating to the past and present history of the agricultural territory around Piacenza and its material culture, the presented study aims to understand how historically consolidated contexts are physically transformed through food culture. Considering historical and economic works on the Italian agricultural landscape, the paper stresses the dichotomy between consolidated cultural practices acting on a historically traditional landscape, and the innovation coming from the subversion of those practices, by visualizing them through a qualitative-quantitative gastronomic map of the local territory.展开更多

The conceptualisations and classifications of these, however, are often ambiguous, overlap or lag behind in scientific literature. This article examines whether there is a common denominator to define and delimitate–and ultimately map–these new dimensions of cityscapes. In an extensive literature review we analysed and juxtaposed some of the most common concepts such as megacity, megaregion or megalopolis. We observed that many concepts are abstract or unspecific, and for those concepts for which physical parameters exist, the parameters are neither properly defined nor used in standardised ways. While understandably concepts originate from various disciplines, the authors identify a need for more precise definition and use of parameters. We conclude that often, spatial patterns of large urban areas resemble each other considerably but the definitions vary so widely that these differences may surpass any inconsistencies in the spatial delimitation process. In other words, today we have tools such as earth observation data and Geographic Information Systems to parameterise if clear definitions are provided. This appears not to be the case. The limiting factor when delineating large urban areas seems to be a commonly agreed ontology.展开更多
