In the present paper a brief account is given of the depositional characteristics, the classification, the deuterodiagenetic changes and the reservior behavior of the carbonate rocks in the Sinian Dengying Formation in Southwest China. The authors have come to the conclusions: (1) During the Dengying age, this region was, as a whole, covered by a vast expanse of epicontinental sea; while in central Sichuan and northern Guizhou spread a great mass of shallow-water carbonate platform, and in western Hunan and Hubeiwas a still water basin. (2) In the Dengying Formation, dolomites are of eonnate deposits. The thallophyta seem apparently to have plaid an important role in the rock-forming and in the reef-building. (3) Thin-bedded algal dolomites with botryoidal structure were deposited on the Siehuan-Guizhou carbonate platform. As characterized by the presence of bedded reef or hicstrome, this type of dolomites is more or less of interest to the study of stratigraphy. 展开更多

To unveil formation mechanism of key sequence boundaries of inland faulting basin and coal accumulation charac- teristics of coal seams in isochrohal stratigraphic framework, sequence stratigraphy, palaeogeographic recovery and other methods were used to research the sequence stratigraphy and coal accumulation in the example of Banding Basn in the west margin of Yangtze Platform, and the authors advanced a coal accumulation model of Faulting basin on the basis of accommo- dation space changes in the background of palaeogeography of sequence framework. The results show that: normal lacustrine regression and forced lacustrine regression are the main driving forces for the formation of sequence boundaries of Faulting ba- sin; basement subsidence is the main source of accommodation space of Faulting basin; and subsidence disequilibrium is the main cause for the difference in generation rate of accommodation space of Faulting basin. Coal accumulation in Faulting basin is obviously controlled by accommodation space changes in sequence framework and basin evolution. As Faulting basin evolves into depression basin, both subsidence rate of basin basement and generation rate of accommodation space decrease vertically, it appears as a progradational reverse-graded sedimentary sequence, coal accumulation in secondary sequence framework intensifies first and then weakens, and coal accumulation at the middle stage of highstand system tract is the best. During steady rifting period, minable coal seams were mostly developed in initial lacustrine flooding surface of fourth-order sequence and at the middle-late period of highstand system tract, and coal accumulation center lay in palaeogeographic unit of delta plain with moderate available accommodation space. During shrinking period, minable coal seams gradually migrated to the maximum lacustrine flooding surface and coal accumulation center lay in palaeographical unit of lacustrine with large available accommodation space. 展开更多

Based on a synthetic geological study of drilling, well logging and seismic data, core observations and geochemical analysis,it is recognized that Triassic sedimentary facies in the Tahe area of Tarim Basin include braided river deposits filling erosional valleys, and sublacustrine fan, canyon and delta facies.Braided river deposits filling erosional valleys are dominated by coarse-grained lithic quartz sandstone with oblique bedding, and represent the most important sedimentation type of sandstone in the study area.Sublacustrine fan and canyon facies are mainly distributed in the Middle Oil Member. Most delta sediments are deposited in highstand system tract(HST),Because of frequent changes in base level, delta sediments are commonly eroded and rarely preserved.Sedimentary cycles are clearly reflected by lithology, sedimentary structures and well logging data, and are closely related to the changes in lacustrine level. In accordance with the basic principle of sequence subdivision, seven type-I boundaries can be recognized in Triassic strata and six type-I sequences are subdivided correspondingly. In general, lowstand system tract(LST) is well developed within stratigraphic sequences and forms the main body of reservoir sandstone in this area;highstand system tract(HST) and transgressive system tract(TST) are often eroded by upper sequences or missed,Although various factors have different influences on terrestrial sequence stratigraphy, the classical sequence stratigraphy theory proposed by VAIL can be applied to terrestrial strata. 展开更多

Based on analysis of drilling, logging and field profile data, six sequence boundaries in Permian are identified in Bachu and Tazhong regions of Tarim Basin. All sequence boundaries are of type I sequence bound- aries, and are characterized by down cut. According to the six sequence boundaries, the Permian in this area can be divided into 5 third-order sequences, and all the sequences correspond with classic sequence model of Vail. Sequence Psq4 indicates lake transgressive system tract (TST) and highstand system tract (HST). Se- quences Psql, Psq2, Psq3, Psq5 indicate low stand system tract ( LST), transgressive system tract and high- stand system tract. LST is deposited by incised channel infilling with features of fluvial facies. TST is deposited by shore-shallow lake and semi-deep lake. HST is deposited by semi-deep lake, shore-shallow lake and delta. In addition, volcanic rocks are present on the top part of HST in sequence Psq3. Incised channel infilling and deltaic deposits were mainly distributed on western slope of Tadong uplift. 展开更多

The past six years (2008-2014) was a prosperous time for exploration and production in the dGOM (deepwater Gulf of Mexico). Recent exploration and production activities can be divided into three major categories: drilling new wildcat wells, appraising and developing newly discovered fields and enhanced oil recovery of mature fields. Seismic imaging, complex geology, high pressure drilling, greater depth, and higher temperature are key challenges for the exploration and production of dGOM reservoirs. Complex geology includes salt-related structures and traps, reservoir compartmentalization, and the sequence stratigraphy of turbidite reservoirs. Turbidite sequence stratigraphy helps the asset team to fred the best target intervals. Sheet and channelized sandstones with good downdip aquifer support are preferred reservoir conditions. All the drilling, development and production challenges are related to high pressure, greater depth, higher temperature and lack of existing field analogs. Various IOR (improved oil recovery) methods are studied and applied in the development stage of the Wilcox fields, which have an average primary recovery factor of 10%-15%. With ideal tabular reservoir geometry and IOR methods, recovery factor of the Wilcox reservoirs can reach up to 42% of OOIP (origional oil in place) through the field life cycle. 展开更多

Through the scientific investigation on Lushan for a long time, detailed studies have been carried out on the geologic stratum section of Late Quaternary in Dajiaochang. The series age data of complete stratigraphic section and full time formation since 400 kaBP were based on the results of the analyses using the dating methods with various instruments such as the ancient geomagnetism, electronics spin resonance (ESR), 36C1 and lumines- cence dating, etc. Corresponding to these data, it identified the paleomagnetic polarity events including Biwa- III event (320 kaBP), Biwa- 1I event (260 kaBP), Biwa- I event (180 kaBP, scarcity due to the disturbance of the iron dish), Blake event (100 kaBP) and Laschamp event (20 kaBP, didn't grow due to the activities of the surface), etc. Combined with the sequence stratigraphy, layer type characteristics and its sediment environment, the strati- graphic can be divided into 4 stages of development respectively : Stage [ is the climate period of glacial epoch (200-400 kaBP); stage 11 is the climate period of interglacial epoch (100-200 kaBP); stage llI is the climate peri- od of periglacial epoch (10-100 kaBP); stage IV is the climate period ofpostglacial epoch (0-10 kaBP). 展开更多

We analyzed the sedimentary characteristics and chronostratigraphy of the Pearl River Delta in South China, and discussed the Holocene stratigraphic characteristics and the filling process since the Holocene, based on 90 boreholes. Our results showed that the maximum transgressive surface of the Pearl River Delta was located in the soft marine silt horizons, whereas it was shown as an erosion surface in areas with tidal scour. From bottom to top, Holocene sedimentary sequences were fluvial facies, floodplain-estuary facies, and estuary-delta facies in the paleo-valley, while the paleo-interfluve sequences were described as littoral facies, estuary facies, and delta facies. Vertical accumulation sequences of Holocene sediments were shown primarily as positive tapering-shaped sequences with no typical foreset, topset, or other sedimentary sequences of the Gilbert Delta. The paleo-Pearl River estuary had different evolution models in the highstand systems tract (HST) compared with other large deltas worldwide, in that it is dominated by a unique and complex geomorphologic boundary, and that it is a multi-sourced delta compounded by the independent and parallel development of fluvial sedimentary bodies with different scales. A huge estuary was formed in the present Pearl River Delta area when the post-glacial transgression reached maximum at about 6 ka BP. The estuary was divided into two parts by obstruction of a series of islands, an upper part composed of the semi-enclosed inner paleo-bay connected to rivers and a lower part consisting of the outer paleo-bay connected to the ocean. Both of these areas were interlinked by only a few narrows, in which the fluvial sediments are accumulated primarily in the inner paleo-bay. During 6-2 ka BP, the sedimentation in various regions of the inner paleo-bay occurred simultaneously with independent development under the remodeling and transformation effect of complex boundaries on river and ocean dynamics. After 2 ka BP, the evolution of the delta is no longer a simple natural process, but rather a common remodeling process accomplished by nature and humans. 展开更多

The Nenjiang Formation in the Songliao Basin is a symmetrical sequence of progradation-retrogradation,and is formed in the transgression cycle and regression cycle(T-R cycles)of the base level of deposition. We analyzed the drilling, well logging, core data, and seismic profiles of basin level, and by using the sequence stratigraphy, identified one secondary sequence boundary, two third-order sequence boundaries, and eight fourth-order sequence boundaries in the Nenjiang Formation. These eleven sequence boundaries can be divided into structural unconformity, depositional unconformity, flooding surface, and forced regression surface. Therefore the Nenjiang Formation can be subdivided into one secondary sequence, three third-order sequences, and ten fourth-order sequences. We have restored the sedimentary filling evolution within the stratigraphic framework of fourth-order sequences in the Nenjiang Formation. The sedimentary period of the first member of the Nenjiang Formation was corresponded to the global transgression period, which is also the development period of transgression cycle(T cycle),when the lake basin had the largest scope and deepest sedimentary water, the SB07(the maximum flooding surface)was formed on the top of strata during this period;covering above the SB07,there developed a set of condensation layer-oil shale, which is distributed in the whole basin and is the important source bed and regional cover. Therefore,a retrogradation sequence was formed in the T cycle of the first member of the Nenjiang Formation, characterized by the retrograding delta at a low angle. The delta has a giant front,a small plain, and many underwater distributary channels.Meanwhile, large gravity flow channels and sublacustrine fans are developed in the front of the delta.During the depositional period of the second member of the Nenjiang Formation, the R cycle began to develop due to the compression of the pacific tectonic domain;the source direction rotated 90°along with the eastern uplifting of the basin, and formed a series of east-west prograded and forced retrogradations. The prograding delta at high angel was developed in the interior of the sequence;the delta had a small front,a giant plain, and fewer underwater distributary channels, with the collapse at the foreslope, forming a series of slump fans. The slump fans can be divided into three types:discrete type, superimposed type, and fluid type.We built a whole"triad model"of the slump fan.Pointed out that the sequence of forced retrogradation formed by R cycle is a good structural mark of basin optimization, and rejected the viewpoint of"transgression"in the Nenjiang Formation of the Songliao Basin. 展开更多
