The values of abundance, species richness, diversity and evenness were significantly larger in OT and ON than in CT, indicating that the abundance and diversity in organic farming fields were greater than those in conventional farming. The community structure of enchytraeid genera was different between OT and ON. Enchytraeus was the most abundant in OT, while Fridericia in ON. The abundance of oribatids in OT was similar to that in ON, while the species richness and diversity in the former were smaller. These results suggested that no-tillage practice under organic management might contribute to the improvement in quality of soil mesofauna.展开更多

Two experiments were carried out at a pig farm in the municipality of Jatibonico, Sancti Spiritus province, Cuba. The farm has a low level of specialization, pigs are fed using local resources such as sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum) juice and locally produced concentrated feed. In both studies, the treatment consisted in administering together with the feed 2.0 g of VIUSID vet per Kg of feed. Results showed that in low-input rearing conditions, supplying VIUSID vet significantly reduced deaths (17.65%) in the pigs treated, favoured leukocyte and lymphocyte counts, and significantly improved weight gain (16.33%) and feed efficiency (14.41%).展开更多

An opinion poll for the establishment of a bioethanol plant utilizing local resources such as the cultivation of sweet sorghum and the zeolite deposits was held. Data were collected by heads of selected households of the Municipality of Trigono (Evros, Greece). The simple random sampling was applied and a face-to-face interviewing and filling in of the forms of a questionnaire was conducted. It was estimated that some 44,778-55,971 acres of land should be cultivated with sweet sorghum for a satisfactory production of bioethanol in a bioethanol plant in the order of 120,000-150,000 tons/year. Furthermore, in this paper an optimum solution was estimated by using of the Fuzzy Logic Toolbox of Matlab (Intelligent system) which is formulated as follows "the bioethanol plant absorbing the sweet sorghum's production of a cultivating area of 46,600 acres and operating 12 hours/day would produce 125,000 tons of bioethanol annually". Such a vast area of land would offer occupation to a significant number of young farmers for the cultivation of sweet sorghum.展开更多

From the methodological point of view, there were analyzed the different aspects that causes the present crisis in this territorial contest and that, contextually, at the same time, prevent its recovery. The procedural pathway followed these steps: analysis, synthesis, comparison, deduction and induction. The results showed that there are technical, social, environmental, political and infra-structural aspects that cause this stated economical emergency for the compartment. A "new rural paradigm", in particular, the multi-functionality of the farm seems to be the road to the progress of mountain regions. Unfortunately, there are no definitive universal answers, hut individual solutions that should be investigated and calibrated for specific local resources.展开更多
