The Asymmetric Response of Older Male Labour Force Participation Rates to Pension Reform and Labour Market Variables 被引量:2

Increasing the labour force participation rates of older workers is a fundamental component of most OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) countries' response to the fiscal pressures associated with ageing populations. Both pension reform and employment policies are key elements to achieving such increases in participation and reversing the early retirement trends of recent decades. Econometric modeling results from a panel of 12 OECD countries indicate that labour market variables have a greater influence than social security pension value or the standard age of retirement on the labour force participation rates of males aged 55-64 years. Further results from modeling the potential asymmetric response of participation rates to unemployment rates indicate that a decrease in unemployment rates has a greater impact upon increasing the labour force participation rates of older workers compared to the effect of an increase on unemployment rates has on discouraging participation. We found mixed results for the asymmetric response of participation to an increase or decrease in pension value. Findings thus emphasize the importance of labour market oriented policies to reduce unemployment rates in the developed economies in coming years to address ageing population concerns. 展开更多

Within this article, child, play and playground concepts have been examined and the parameters of playground design have been classified. Global population growth and urbanization have posed increasing threats to the ecological environment. In an aging society, high-density living spaces have resulted in intensifying housing concerns for urban senior citizens. Among the rapid urban development, addressing the demands of senior citizens for suitable living environments and enabling senior city dwellers to engage in diversified social interactions are concerns that necessitate public attention. This study introduced the idea of the “vertical farm” to the living environments of senior citizens. By integrating vegetation appreciation and physical labor, vertical farming allows senior citizens to experience joy and a sense of accomplishment. In addition, these farms can change the monotonous and gloomy exteriors of concrete buildings. By conducting in-depth interviews with 12 senior citizens residing in the Happiness Community in Taipei City, by building vertical farms, senior citizens can experience joy and a sense of achievement at the psychological level and communicate with families, friends and neighbors in the community at a social level. At the environmental level, comprehensive ecological communities can be achieved. We explored how promoting vertical farms in a living environment can affect senior citizens at the psychological, social and environmental levels. The results can be used to build vertical farms that accommodate the needs of senior citizen living environments. 展开更多

In the third Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee, the central government proposed the "formulation of gradual delay retirement scheme ", which triggered a widespread concern among all sectors in the society. Support and opposition to delay of retirement focus on the impact made by extension of retirement age on the employment. The dairy herd improvement data from Henan Province were analyzed statistically to establish screening criteria for relevant data, thereby laying a foundation for genetic evaluation of dairy cows. With the 2 152 451 test-day records about 155 893 Chinese Holstein dairy cows collected by the Henan Dairy Herd Improvement Center from January 2008 to April 2016, the dynamics of test times during a complete lactation, test interval during a complete lactation, days in milk (DIM) of first test-day record, daughter descendant number and herd number of bull, age at first calving and pedigree integrity rate among different years and different herd sizes were analyzed by MEANS order of SAS 9.4. In addition, the data that were applicable to genetic evaluation were screened by SQL program. The results showed that during 2008-2015, the number of cow individuals participating in DHI in Henan Province increased from 7 379 to 93 706; the test-day milk yield increased from 19.91 to 24.05 kg; the somatic cell count reduced from 411.09×10^3 to 277.08×10^3 cells/ml; the percentage of cows with DIM ranging from 5-305 d reached 70.92%; the average test times increased from 3.20 to 6.31 times; the test interval decreased from 70.22 to 33.83 d; the dairy cows with age at first calving of 25 months were dominant, accounting for 12.57%; the bulls whose daughter descendant number was 20 or more and the daughters were distributed in 10 or more farms accounted for 6.05%; the one-generation pedigree integrity rate was 82.54%; the percentage of data that could be used for genetic evaluation was screened as 20.67%, which was lower than the results of other similar studies. 展开更多

Micro-filtration membrane (1.2 μm), hyper-filtration membrane (0.45 μm) and nano-filtration membrane (1000 Dalton) were used to characterize the particle size distribution of the organic matters in effluent leachate treated by the aged-refuse-bioreactor(ARB) installed at Laogang Refuse Landfill, Shanghai. The results showed that the particle size distribution of the treated fresh and aged leachate using the ARB were quite consistent. The organic matter with particle size below 1000 Dalton accounted for about 90%, balanced with the suspended (〉1.2 μm) and colloidal (1000 Dalton-l.2μm) matters. Hence, it is proposed that coagulation, nano-filtration and electrically chemical oxidation may be not applicable for the advanced treatment for the effluents to reach the discharge standard limit value defined in Chinese national Standard for Pollution Control on the Landfill Site of Municipal Solid Wastes (GB16889-2008), CODCr〈100 mg/L. The relatively high percentage of people with disabilities in Europe combined with the facts of ageing population, strong relation of impairment to age, and as State of the Art shows, dissatisfaction or even unawareness of people with disabilities of available assistive technology are revealing the necessity to incorporate a user-centric approach that beyond 2nd generation practices will achieve to provide embedded and built-in accessibility solutions, as well as toolkits for developers, for "engraving" accessibility in existing and emerging mass-market ICT-based products, aiming to make accessibility open, plug and play, personalised and configurable, realistic and applicable in various contexts, keeping always the user in the loop. The AEGIS (Accessibility Everywhere: Groundwork, Infrastructure, Standards) IP (Integrated Project) of the 7th European Framework Programme seeks to determine whether 3rd generation access techniques will provide a more accessible, more exploitable and deeply embeddable approach in mainstream ICT (information and communication technologies). This paper presents the holistic UCD (user-centered design) implementation plan, upon which AEGIS has been based in order to achieve its targets, starting from modelling its target users, in the most efficient way possible. 展开更多
