An example is presented and numerical results are compared. The results show that the additional longitudinal forces calculated with the new model are less than those of the previous, especially in the case of the flexible pier bridges. The new model is also suitable for the analysis of the additional longitudinal force transmission between rails and bridges of ballastless track with small resistance fasteners without taking the sleeper displacement into account, and compared with the ballast bridges, the ballastless bridges have a much stronger additional longitudinal force transmission between the continuously welded rails and the bridges.展开更多

The method is capable of simulating the nonlinear soil response in the near field usingp-y and r-θ curves, the far-field interactions through Mindlin's and Randolph's elastic solutions, and the coupling effect of lateral resistance on torsional resistance of the individual piles using an empirical factor. Based on comparisons of the solutions for fixed- and pinned-head, 1×2, 2×2, and 3×3 pile groups subjected to torsion, it was found that pile-cap connection significantly influences the torsional capacity of pile groups and the assignment of applied torques in the pile groups. In this study, the applied torques for the pinned-head pile groups are only 44%-64% of those for the corresponding fixed-head pile groups at a twist angle of 2^o. Such a difference is mainly due to the change of the lateral resistances of individual piles in the groups.展开更多

The results show that the optimal initial perturbations of temperature and salinity exciting the strongest decadal THC variations have similar structures: the perturbations are mainly in the northwestern basin at a depth ranging from 1500 to 3000 m. These temperature and salinity perturbations act as the optimal precursors for future modifications of the THC, highlighting the importance of observations in the northwestern basin to monitor the variations of temperature and salinity at depth. The decadal THC variation in the nonlinear model initialized by the optimal salinity perturbations is much stronger than that caused by the optimal temperature perturbations, indicating that salinity variations might play a relatively important role in exciting the decadal THC variability. Moreover, the decadal THC variations in the tangent linear and nonlinear models show remarkably different characteristics, suggesting the importance of nonlinear processes in the decadal variability of the THC.展开更多

The initial pre-stress is a key factor for determining the shape and load carrying capacity. A new numerical algorithm is presented herein for the initial pre-stress finding procedure of complete cable-strut assembly. This method is based on the linear adjustment theory and does not take into account the material behavior. By using this method, the initial pre-stress of the multi self-stress modes can be found easily and the cal-culation process is simplified and efficient also. By using a loop algebra E of the Lie algebra E and the reduced self-dual Yang-Mills equations, we obtain an expanding integrable model of the Giachetti-Johnson (G J) hierarchy whose Hamiltonian structure can also be derived by using the trace identity. This provides a much simplier construction method in comparing with the tedious variational identity approach. Furthermore, the nonlinear integrable coupling of the GJ hierarchy is readily obtained by introducing the Lie algebra gN. As an application, we apply the loop algebra E of the Lie algebra E to obtain a kind of expanding integrable model of the Kaup-Newell (KN) hierarchy which, consisting of two arbitrary parameters a and β, can be reduced to two nonlinear evolution equations. In addition, we use a loop algebra F of the Lie algebra F to obtain an expanding integrable model of the BT hierarchy whose Hamiltonian structure is the same as using the trace identity. Finally, we deduce five integrable systems in R3 based on the self-dual Yang-Mills equations, which include Poisson structures, irregular lines, and the reduced equations.展开更多

In order to identify the correlations between nitrogen species in coke and different nitrogen- containing products in tail gas, three coked catalysts with multilayer structural coke molecules were prepared in a fixed bed with model compounds (o-xylene and quinoline) at first. A series of characterization methods were used to analyze coke, including elemental analysis, FT-IR, XPS, and TG-MS. XPS characterization indicates all coked catalysts present two types of nitrogen species and the type with a higher binding energy is related with the inner part nitrogen atoms interacting with acid sites. Due to the stronger adsorption ability on acid sites for basic nitrogen compounds, the multilayer structural coke has unbalanced distribution of carbon and ni- trogen atoms between the inner part and the outer edge, which strongly affects gas product formation. At the early stage of regeneration, oxidation starts from the outer edge and the product NO can be reduced to N2 in high CO concentration. At the later stage, the inner part rich in nitrogen begins to be exposed to 02. At this period, the formation of CO decreases due to lack of carbon atoms, which is not beneficial to the reduction of NO. There- fore, nitrogen species in the inner part of multilayer structural coke contributes more to NOx formation. Based on the multilayer structure model of coke molecule and its oxidation behavior, a possible strategy to control NOx emission was discussed merely from concept.展开更多

The results suggest strong evidence of a non-linear structure and time irreversibility. Therefore, it does not comply with the i.i.d (independent and identically distributed) property. The non-linear dependence, however, is not consistent throughout the sample period, as indicated by a windowed test, suggesting episodic nonlinear dependence. The results imply that GARCH models cannot capture the series structure.展开更多

They are classified into different subtypes based on their targets. The a-conotoxins selectively inhibit the current of the nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. Because of their unique selectivity towards distinct nAChR subtypes, a-conotoxins become valuable tools in nAChR study. In addition to the X-ray structures of a-conotoxins in complex with acetyleholine-binding protein, a homolog of the nAChR ligand-binding domain, the high-resolution crystal structures of the extracellular domain of the al and a9 subunits are also obtained. Such structures not only revealed the details of the configuration of nAChR, but also provided higher sequence identity templates for modeling the binding modes of a-conotoxins to nAChR. This mini-review summarizes recent modeling studies for the determination of the binding modes of a-conotoxins to nAChR. As there are not crystal structures of the nAChR in complex with conotoxins, computational modeling in combination of mutagenesis data is expected to reveal the molecular recognition mechanisms that govern the interactions between a-conotoxins and nAChR at molecular level. An accurate determination of the binding modes of a-conotoxins on AChRs allows rational design of a-conotoxin analogues with improved potency or selectivity to nAChRs.展开更多

The generalized six DoFs (degrees-of-freedom) nonlinear vehicle model M1 including longitudinal, lateral, yaw, vertical, roll and pitch dynamics is validated using the measured data reported in different studies. This model takes the CG (center of gravity) of sprung mass, unsprung mass and total vehicle mass into account. Based on this model, the effects of the inertia parameters on the vehicle dynamic responses are investigated for more comprehensive assessments of the model structure. Another nonlinear vehicle model 342 derived from M1 which assumes that the vehicle has a single CG as reported in literature is also developed. The dynamic responses of the vehicle model Mj are compared with those of the model M2 to demonstrate the performance potential of the proposed nonlinear model. The results of dynamic responses with the nonlinear vehicle model MI suggest that the model could offer considerable potential in realizing enhanced ride and handling performance, as well as improved roll and pitch properties in a flexible manner.展开更多
