Creed is "a system of Christian or other religious belief; a faith There is no doubt that business is about making financial profit, and that is the way it should be. However, it is also important to understand that a person's creed-their principles and beliefs-has a tremendous influence on the way in which they will practice business. In recent decades, for example, the fraudulent business practices of major corporations such as Adelphia, Enron, Dynergy, Global Crossing, Merrill Lynch, Qwest, Tyco, and WorldCom, became international news. One after one, major world businesses, which were widely trusted and respected, toppled, leaving in their quake millions of ruined lives. Seemingly respectable and successful business practices were guilty of behaving with criminal intentions; consequently appearing, in the opinion of many observers, little more than common thieves As such, the philosophy of management, especially in relation to Creed vs. Greed, has become increasingly important within today's business world. 展开更多

Situated within the Cross River State of Nigeria, the Upper Cross River area covers the northern half of Cross River State comprising Ugep, Obubra, Ikom, Ogoja, and Obudu divisions. Bounded on the north by the Benue region, west by Ebonyi and Enugu states and east by the Republic of Cameroon, this unique area experienced colonial rule. Christianity established its dominance in this area during colonial times, leaving no room for Islam. However, following the 1967 to 1970 civil war, groups of Islamic traders, clerics, and businessmen started trickling into the area, and settling there. They began to spread their faith in the region hut could not establish their political presence there. Some familiarised themselves with the culture of the indigenous people, and won converts not by force, but via the proselytisation of their faith. Community leaders did not abandon the old verities which bound traditional society in the region together. The pattern was often a pragmatic choice--accepting the best of the faiths resulting in peaceful co-existence and assured social harmony in the region. Pockets of Islamic converts could be found in Ogoja, Obudu, and some strategic commercial locations in the region. Against this backdrop, the paper examines the co-existence of Islam in the Upper Cross River Region (UCRR) and the impact made economically, culturally and religiously on the peoples of the region. The research adopted secondary and primary sources of information in its methodology. It therefore established that the UCRR of Nigeria serves as an excellent example, or a convenient model for the study of mutual religious co-existence between adherents of the Islamic and other faiths in the region. 展开更多

Christian buildings in Shaanxi already have more than 1,300 years development history since the first church was built in Chang'an in 635 AD. The Rapid development of Christian buildings started from 1840 due to the entry of foreign missionaries. Various types of Christian buildings rose up in the province, were constructed by local builder, but designed and funded by foreign missionaries. In comparison to other Christian buildings, churches have unique historical value, cultural value and also special meaning in architecture art. However, their cultural heritage value has not yet been sufficiently considered. They are facing the prospect of being damaged and demolished, even in nowadays. It is incumbent that their architecture to be historically evaluated and that ways to be found to preserve them. In this paper, the author will focus on the neoteric Christian churches and illustrate the architecture by taking examples from the churches in Shaanxi, along with the intention to clarify the relationship between social background and the history of evolution of these churches. In addition, the authors have taken the chance to understand more comprehensively about the fascinating history of these Christian churches by way of field surveys and taping into archival documents. 展开更多

The paper gives an overview of the Anti-Christian Movement of 1922-1927, focusing on the role of Peking University faculty and students in the first stage of the movement. Statements by some important Peking University intellectuals, such as University President Cai Yuanpei (蔡元培) and Professors Chen Duxiu (陈独秀), Hu Shi (胡适), Zhou Zuoren (周作人), etc. are discussed in detail. Special attention is given to those comments that stand out as against "majority opinion". Neither the Communists nor the Nationalists were key leaders during the first stage of the movement. It was the clash of core Chinese cultural values with those of Christianity and the Chinese desire to industrialize a country overwhelmed by the Western powers that were instrumental in the instigation of the Anti-Christian Movement. 展开更多
