On the basis of the theoretical analysis of a single-machine infinite-bus (SMIB), using the modified linearized Phil- lips-Heffron model installed with unified power flow controller (UPFC), the potential of the UPFC supplementary controller to enhance the dynamic stability of a power system is evaluated by measuring the electromechanical controllability through singular value decomposition (SVD) analysis. This controller is tuned to simultaneously shift the undamped electromeehanical modes to a prescribed zone in the s-plane. The problem of robust UPFC based damping controller is formulated as an optimization problem according to the eigenvalue-based multi-objective function comprising the damping factor, and the damping ratio of the undamped electromechanical modes to be solved using gravitational search algorithm (GSA) that has a strong ability to find the most optimistic results. The different loading conditions are simulated on a SMIB system and the rotor speed deviation, internal voltage deviation, DC voltage deviation and electrical power deviation responses are studied with the effect of this flexible AC transmission systems (FACTS) controller. The results reveal that the tuned GSA based UPFC controller using the proposed multi-objective function has an excellent capability in damping power system with low frequency oscillations and greatly enhances the dynamic stability of the power systems. 展开更多

Computer programs have definitely become indispensable for designing power transformer. Among several applications, computer programs are mostly used for electric field calculation and thus electrical insulation concerns. In consequence, studies based on analytical approach to basic studies of correlated problems have become even more important because they form the very basis of knowledge that is necessary to every transformer designer in view of taking all the advantages of computational analyses. On the other hand, one of the most important basic studies consists in the evaluation of voltage surge distribution along transformer windings for which the method of separation of variables has been extensively used thanks to some simplifying assumptions. With this aim, authors have developed and previously published works that show the applicability of an alternative and useful analytical method that is the method of the residues, which requires no simplification to be assumed. In this work, another important step is taken towards proofing the total applicability of this promising method that is through a practical problem. A comparison to the numerical method TLM (transmission line method) is also performed and concordance with TLM and experimental data confirms the proposal of the method of residues can be also applicable to several others problems of electromagnetism. 展开更多

This paper is aimed at the streamers in natural esters (vegetable oils) in point--plane electrode arrangement under lightning impulse voltage. The shape, stopping length, velocity and current of streamers are investigated. Six untreated commercial oils extracted from grape seeds, sunflower and rape seeds, corn, rice and sesame that could constitute potential liquids for high voltage applications are tested. A naphthenic mineral oil is also tested for comparison. It's shown that the streamers are filamentary for both polarities. For a given voltage, the stopping lengths (Lf) of streamers are longer when the point is positive than when it is negative; also, except mineral oil when the point is negative, the values of Lf-are very close in all tested oils. The streamers' velocities are in the same range for all vegetable oils and they vary between 0.4 km/s and 1.2 km/s for positive polarity and 0.2 km/s and 0.8 km/s for negative polarity. 展开更多

Profit from high current gain features, 4 H-Si C power Darlington transistor has the capacity for handling high current transmission. In this paper, monolithic Darlington transistors were fabricated using a simultaneous formation process for both n-type(emitter) and p-type(base) ohmic contact. The isolated device shows current gain of 1061 and 823 with collector current density(JC) increasing from 200 to 800 A/cm2, exhibiting a slight current gain drop at high JC. By extracting the interface state density(Dit) between Si O2 and p-type 4 H-Si C, it is found that this advantage owes to the improvement of the shallow bulk minority carrier lifetime in base region. Furthermore, ISE-TCAD(technology computer aided design) simulation was carried out to study the relationship between base minority lifetime and the current gain, from which the total base minority lifetime is estimated to be 48 ns. The open base breakdown voltage(BVCEO) is 850 V at a leakage current of 2 μA due to the electric filed crowding at the isolation bottom between drive bipolar junction transistor(BJT) and output BJT. To solve this, non-isolated devices were also fabricated with improved BVCEOof 2370 V, indicating the superior potential of 4 H-Si C monolithic Darlington transistors for high power application, while the current gain is deceased to 420, which needs further improvement. 展开更多

The metal-conducting single-walled carbon nanotubes (m-SWNTs) with small diameters (0.7 nm-1.1 nm) are selectively removed from the single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) by using HNOJH2SO4 mixed solution. Semiconducting single- walled carbon nanotubes (s-SWNTs) can be separated efficiently from the SWNTs with high controllability and purity based on this novel method, and the outcome is characterized by Raman spectrum. Moreover, the organic field effect transistors (OFETs) are fabricated based on the poly (3-hexylthiophene-2, 5-diyl) (P3HT), and untreated SWNTs and separated SWNTs (s-SWNTs) are mixed with P3HT, respectively. It could be found that the P3HT/s-SWNT device exhibits a better field effect characteristic compared with the P3HT device. The current on/off ratio is increased by 4 times, the threshold voltage is also increased from -28 V to -22 V, and the mobility is increased from 3 ~ 10.3 cmZNs to 5 x 10.3 cm2/Vs. 展开更多
