However, rationally looking at how different the impact of foreign economic activities on China's economy and society is economic workers' main task. From 1982 to 2006, based on six categories of China's environmental indicators, the paper improves the entropy method to calculate the environmental pollution index which can represent China's overall environmental situation, uses the VAR model of the impulse response function and variance decomposition method to study the impact of foreign trade, FDI on China's environmental pollution in the long-term. The results show that, FDI and import trade is conducive to the improvement of the quality of our environment and export trade is the deterioration of our environment, "pollution haven" hypothesis is proved in China. Export trade is an important variable that aggravates environmental pollution.展开更多

We are witnessing a regional disparity regarding the volume of foreign investments in this area, which is due to the difference of attractiveness of host countries economy. The attractiveness of these economies is conditioned, in its turn, by the importance of economic factors and the quality of existing infrastructures, which is at their turn facing an increasing complexity of technology. Business relocation of foreign investors is influenced also by the institutional environment, because foreign investors hope to capitalize on the collateral effects offered by the investment environment in the host country, such as research laboratories and existing infrastructure, without neglecting the benefits of a highly qualified workforce at reduced costs, some geopolitical advantages, etc.. After EU accession, the attractiveness index of business environment in Romania has increased from (-59%) in 2005 to 66% (2008), and Romania was considered among the most attractive economies in Central and Eastern Europe, along with Russia where the attractiveness index increased from 63% (2007) to 72% (2008) and Ukraine which has seen an increase in the attractiveness index of the business environment from 56% (2007) to 67% (2008). This paper aims to highlight the positive effects induced by international business companies in assessing technological absorption capacity of the Romanian economy and to provide economic analysis of the "cause-effect" link between the attractiveness of the Romanian economy-governance--the intake of foreign investment straight to the active processing export of Romania under the impact of the overall effects of international financial crisis.展开更多

This paper seeks to identify the reasons behind such a stellar performance by conducting an empirical study on the top 500 Taiwan Residents businesses in the database. The results suggest that: (1) the larger the investment into China, the better the business performances; (2) the higher the ownership by Taiwan Residents firms for the outward investments to China, the better the business performances; (3) compared to investments in IT, technology and machinery, the outward investments from Taiwan to China achieve better returns in commodity, energy, and mining; (4) compared to investments in Eastern, Central, and Western China, the investments in Chinese municipalities generate better returns.展开更多

Based on the Copeland-Taylor model, this paper creates a theoretical mechanism to demonstrate how Chinas OFDI affects host countries' pollution intensity and environmental quality and carries out an empirical analysis based on Chinas OFDI data of 2003-2014 and the economic development index data of 168 host countries. Since Chinas OFDI is differentiated for countries of various income levels, this paper f Urther conducts a sub-sample empirical test on the income level of host countries. The result shows that Chinas OFDI growth generally induces an increase in total pollution emissions in host countries but significantly reduces per capita emissions and thus improves local environmental quality. Sub-sample regression result shows that whether in terms of total or per capita emissions, Chinas OFDI has a much more significant effect in improving the environmental quality of high-income countries.展开更多

A panel data analysis is used to show either the existence of the relationships across FDI, economic and environmental variables or their nature across provinces and time (fixed or random effect model). Model results suggest that diversification of policies across provinces would be more effective in the strategic planning process of a metropolitan city.展开更多

Findings suggest that FDI as well as environmental pollution in our provinces exists an obvious spatial autocorrelation, both of them have remarkable characteristics of path dependence and form different accumulation areas. Currently, the accumulations of highlevel FDI correspond to low-level environmental pollution, while the accumulations of low-level FDI are associated with high-level environmental pollution. Furthermore, the authors have empirically analyzed the impact of FDI on China's environmental pollution by spatial error model (SEM) and spatial lag model (SLM) respeetively. Findings suggest that the geographical clustering of FDI has a positive impact on China's environment, in general, "Pollution Haven Hypothesis" is invalid in China. In addition, there are remarkable differences in the impact of FDI on environmental pollution due to different sources, the foreign capital from offshore financial centers has significantly alleviated pollution in China while that from developed countries in East Asia and the West has played an insignificant role in environmental pollution.展开更多
