The friction and wear properties of Mg2B2O5 whisker reinforced 6061Al matrix composite fabricated via power ultrasonic-stir casting process were investigated using a ball-on-disk wear-testing machine against a GCr45 steel counterface under dry sliding conditions. The reinforcements include as-received Mg2B2O5 whiskers and Mg2B2O5 whiskers coated with CuO and ZnO. The volume fraction of the composites is 2%. The relationship between the wear rate and the coefficient of friction was discussed. The results indicate that the wear rate of the Mg2B2O5 whiskers coated with ZnO reinforced aluminum matrix composites is the lowest among the materials. As the applied load and sliding speed steadily increase the coefficients of friction and wear rates of the as-received matrix alloy and the fabricated composites decrease. As the applied load and sliding speed increase, the wear mechanisms of the composites shift from a mild to a severe regime. 展开更多

Nanoindentation tests were conducted to investigate the near-surface mechanical properties of the individual components(fiber and matrix) for three-dimensional reinforced carbon/carbon composites(3D C/C).Optical microscope and polarizing light microscope were used to characterize the microstructure of 3D C/C.The microscopy results show that large number of pores and cracks exist at both bundle/matrix interface and pitch carbon matrix.These defects have important effect on the mechanical behavior of 3D C/C.The in situ properties for components of 3D C/C were acquired by nanoindentation technique.Relative to the matrix sample,the fiber samples have more larger values for modulus,stiffness and hardness.However,there is no significant difference of modulus and stiffness among fiber samples with different directions. 展开更多

The ultrathin polyelectrolyte molecular deposition films and polyelectrolyte composite nanoparticles molecular deposition films were prepared using layer-by-layer molecular deposition method and in situ growth method.A micro-tribometer has been developed to measure the shear response of those ultrathin molecular deposition films.By using a smooth steel sphere in a ball-on-flat configuration,the shear force was determined for molecular deposition films on glass substrate for different layers.The results indicate that the shear behaviors of molecular deposition film were mainly determined with the contact area and film layers.Moreover,the composite molecular deposition film with nanoparticles has better shear behaviors than the polyelectrolyte molecular deposition film.The shear force of polyelectrolyte molecular deposition film is more dependent on the speed than that of composite nanoparticle molecular deposition film. 展开更多
