Authors use a dynamic panel model encompassing 14 Middle East countries over the period from 1985 to 2009. The findings suggest that countries that are able to reap the benefits of the capital openness policy satisfy certain threshold conditions regarding the level of financial development and institutional quality. Thus to promote FDI, governments in this region should develop a set of policies that not only focus on financial openness, but also on the improvement of the financial system and legal institutions.展开更多

A panel data analysis is used to show either the existence of the relationships across FDI, economic and environmental variables or their nature across provinces and time (fixed or random effect model). Model results suggest that diversification of policies across provinces would be more effective in the strategic planning process of a metropolitan city.展开更多

Empirical results show that while FDI spillover has a negative effect, enhanced environmental regulation has a positive effect. Environmental regulation also has a significant impact on the marginal effect of FDI spillover on industrial technology development. Separate studies on state-owned and private enterprises suggest that environmental regulation has a heterogeneous effect on industrial technology progress and the marginal effect of FDI spillover on industrial technology progress.展开更多
