Effects of transmitter-related parameter settings on ranging accuracy for IR-UWB systems

For impulse radio ultra-wideband (IR-UWB) ranging systems,effects of the settings of transmitter-related parameters, which include the pulse shape, the bandwidth and the pulse repetition interval (PRI), on ranging accuracy were studied through theoretical analysis and simulations. Both the match-filtering based coherent TOA estimation algorithm and the energy-detection based non-coherent algorithm were used during simulations. Results show that the pulse shape has the least effect on the ranging accuracy. Increasing the pulse bandwidth can improve the ranging performance, but the performance is hardly improved any more when the bandwidth is increased beyond a certain level. PRI should be set long enough to guarantee the accurate ranging, because when PRI is shorter than the maximum excess delay of the channel, the ranging accuracy will be deteriorated by inter-pulse interference. 展开更多

Based on direct absorption spectroscopy(DAS), a portable methane(CH_4) detection device was implemented. The device mainly includes a dual-channel non-dispersive infrared sensor(integrated with an infrared light source, light path and pyroelectric detector), a driving circuit of the sensor, an ARM11 embedded Win CE system, and a Lab VIEW-based data-processing platform. Experiments were carried out with prepared CH_4 samples to investigate the sensing performance. The relative detection error is less than 9.14% within the measuring range of 0—7×10^(-2). For a CH_4 sample with concentration of 0(i.e., pure nitrogen), the measured concentration fluctuation range is-1.2×10^(-5)—+2×10^(-5). An Allan deviation analysis on the gas sample with concentration of 0 indicates that the 1σ limit of detection(LoD) of the device is 4.8×10^(-6) with an average time of 1 s. Experiments were performed on three CH_4 samples with different concentrations to test the response time, which is validated to be less than 20 s. Due to the small size of the ARM11 embedded system and the powerful data processing capability of the Lab VIEW platform, the proposed portable and miniaturized CH_4 sensor shows a good application prospect in mining operations and some other industrial fields. 展开更多

A study of the heat transfer about the heating surface of three commercial 300 MWe CFB boilers was conducted in this work. The heat transfer coefficients of the platen heating surface, the external heat exchanger (EHE) and cyclone separator were calculated according to the relative operation data at different boiler loads. Moreover, the heat transfer coefficient of the waterwall was calculated by heat balance of the hot circuit of the CFB boiler. With the boiler capacity increasing, the heat transfer coefficients of these heating surface increases, and the heat transfer coefficient of the water wall is higher than that of the platen heating surface. The heat transfer coefficient of the EHE is the highest in high boiler load, the heat transfer coefficient of the cyclone separator is the lowest. Because the fired coal is different from the design coal in No.1 boiler, the ash content of the fired coal is much lower than that of the design coal. The heat transfer coefficients which calculated with the operation data are lower than the previous design value and that is the reason why the bed temperature is rather high during the boiler operation in No.1 boiler. 展开更多
