Different lineages of birds show varying sensitivity to light in the ultraviolet(UV) wavelengths.In several avian brood parasite-host systems,UV-re ectance of the parasite eggs is important in discriminating own from ...Different lineages of birds show varying sensitivity to light in the ultraviolet(UV) wavelengths.In several avian brood parasite-host systems,UV-re ectance of the parasite eggs is important in discriminating own from foreign eggs by the hosts.In turn,for parasitic females it may be bene cial to lay eggs into host clutches where eggs more closely match the parasite's own eggs.While the visual sensitivities of numerous cuckoo-and cowbird-host species have been described,less is known about those of their respective parasites.Such sensory characterization is important for understanding the mechanisms underlying potential perceptual coevolutionary processes between hosts and parasites,as well as for better understanding each species' respective visual sensory ecology.We sequenced the short wavelength-sensitive type 1(SWS1) opsin gene to predict the degree of UVsensitivity in both of New Zealand's obligate parasitic cuckoo species,the Shining Cuckoo(Chalcites [Chrysococcyx] lucidus) and the Long-tailed Cuckoo(Urodynamis [Eudynamis] taitensis).We show that both species are predicted to possess SWS1 opsins with maximal sensitivity in the human-visible violet portion of the short-wavelength light spectrum,and not in the UV.Future studies should focus on the(mis)matching in host-parasite visual sensitivities with respect to host-parasite egg similarity as perceived by the avian visual system and the behavioral outcomes of foreign egg rejection.展开更多
Due to its advantages of objectiveness, automation, accuracy and fastness in various applications, the technology of computer vision has become one of the studying hotspots in the area of the objective inspection and ...Due to its advantages of objectiveness, automation, accuracy and fastness in various applications, the technology of computer vision has become one of the studying hotspots in the area of the objective inspection and assessment of textiles apparent properties during the past two decades in the world. Both a brief review of its applications in the recent decade both at home and abroad to the automatic inspection and assessment of the various apparent properties of the textiles, such as yarn, woven fabrics and knitting fabrics, carpet fabrics, nonwoven fabrics and textile webs, etc., and a detailed introduction to the research work including the objective evaluation of fabric wrinkle grade, automatic fabric defects detection and assessment of fabric pilling grade, etc., that was conducted by our research section, i.e., Computer Vision’s Textiles Application Research Section, College of Textiles, Dong Hua University, have been provided. Experimental results have proved the feasibilities of the approaches used by us in the applications to the objective inspection and assessment of fabric apparent properties, and also indicated that the technology of computer vision is a power tool for the objective and automatic inspection and assessment of textiles apparent properties, and that it has a bright application future.展开更多

According to the data provided in Eye Injury Vitrectomy Study (EIVS), 27% of 72 eyes with no light perception (NLP) gained recovery in term of antomy and visual function. Vitrectomy initiated at more than 4 weeks after open eye injury is an independent risk factor for developing PVR. Prognosis of anatomy and visual function of the injured eye with PVR is markedly worse than that without PVR. Serious injuries of ciliary body, choroid and retina are three key parts of the eye with NLP. The concept that the treatment of the eye injury gradually focus on the whole globe is embodied. The data from 13575 in patients with traumatic eyes in 14 hospitals revealed that the rate of immediate enucleation was remarkable reduced with comparison of 20 years ago.展开更多
Objective To compare the efficacy of Tuina(Chinese therapeutic massage)plus physical agents and physical agents alone for lateral collateral ligament injury of ankle in gymnasts,and to explore the feasibility of Tuina...Objective To compare the efficacy of Tuina(Chinese therapeutic massage)plus physical agents and physical agents alone for lateral collateral ligament injury of ankle in gymnasts,and to explore the feasibility of Tuina for injury intervention in competitive athletes.Methods A total of 64 gymnasts with types Ⅰ-Ⅱ lateral collateral ligament injury of ankle were selected and divided into a control group and an observation group according to a full analysis set based on the intention-to-treat principle,with 32 cases in each group.Patients in the control group received ultrasound and microwave treatment,while those in the observation group received additional Tuina manipulations.The efficacy was evaluated by total effective rate,visual analog scale(VAS)score,and American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society ankle-hindfoot scale(AOFAS-AHS)score.Results The total effective rate was 96.9% in the observation group and 90.6% in the control group.There was no statistical difference in the total effective rate between the two groups(P>0.05).The markedly effective rate was 75.0% in the observation group and 46.9% in the control group.The markedly effective rate in the observation group was higher than that in the control group(P<0.05).After treatment,the VAS scores of both groups showed a downward trend,and there were statistical differences between different treatment time points in the same group(P<0.05).After one and three months of treatment,the VAS scores of the observation group were lower than those of the control group(P<0.05).There were statistical differences in the AOFAS-AHS score before and after treatment within the same group(P<0.05).After one month of treatment,there was no statistical difference in the AOFAS-AHS score between the two groups(P>0.05).After three months of treatment,the AOFAS-AHS score in the observation group was higher than that in the control group,indicating statistical significance(P<0.05).There was an interaction between time and group(P<0.05).Conclusion Tuina plus physical agents can improve the symptoms of lateral collateral ligament injury of ankle in gymnasts.This combined treatment is superior to physical agents alone in relieving pain and improving joint functions.Therefore,Tuina plus physical agents can be used as a treatment for lateral collateral ligament injury of ankle in gymnasts.展开更多
