To compute wave propagation along the range with some marching methods, a flattening of the internal interfaces and a transforming equation are needed. In this paper a local orthogonal coordinate transform and an equation transformation are constructed to flatten interfaces and change the Helmholtz equation as a solvable form. For a waveguide with a flat top, a fiat bottom and n curved interfaces, the coefficients of the transformed Helmholtz equation are given in a closed formulation which can be thought of as an extension of the formal work related to the equation transformation with two curved internal interfaces. In the transformed horizontally stratified waveguide, the one-way reformulation based on the Dirichlet-to-Neumann (DtN) map is then used to reduce the boundary value problem to an initial value problem. Numerical implementation of the resulting operator Riccati equation uses a large range step method to discretize the range variable and a truncated local eigenfunction expansion to approximate the operators. This method is particularly useful for solving long range wave propagation problems in slowly varying waveguides. Furthermore, the method can also be applied to wave propagation problems in acoustic waveguides associated with varied density.展开更多

It is an important boundary for analysis of rock mass stability. Weak rock zone has been formed in a long geological period, and in this period, various rocks have undergone long-term consolidation of geostatic stress and tectonic stress; therefore, under in-situ conditions, their density and modulus of deformation are relatively high. Due to its fragmentary nature, once being exposed to the earth's surface, the structure of weak rock zone will soon be loosened, its density will be reduced, and its modulus of deformation will also be reduced significantly. Generally, weak rock zone can be found in large construction projects, especially in the dam foundation rocks of hydropower stations. These rocks cannot be eliminated completely by excavation. Furthermore, all tests nowadays are carried out after the exposure of weak rock zone, modulus of deformation under in-situ conditions cannot be revealed. In this paper, a test method explored by the authors has been introduced. This method is a whole multilayered medium deformation method. It is unnecessary to eliminate the relatively complete rocks covering on weak rock zone. A theoretical formula to obtain the modulus of deformation in various mediums has also been introduced. On-site comparative trials and indoor deformation modulus tests under equivalent density conditions have been carried out. We adopted several methods for the prediction researches of the deformation modulus of weak rock zone under in-situ conditions, and revealed a fact that under in-situ conditions, the deformation modulus of weak rock zone are several times higher than the test results obtained after the exposure. In a perspective of geological engineering, the research findings have fundamentally changed peoples' concepts on the deformation modulus of weak rock zone, provided important theories and methods for precise definition of deformation modulus of deep weak rock zone under cap rock conditions, as well as for reasonable engineering applications.展开更多

A single electric coil placed around the inner cylinder to generate a magnetic field. The governing equations which used are continuity, momentum (using Darcy's law) and energy equations which are transformed to dimensionless equations. The finite difference approach is used to obtain all the computational results using Fortran 90 program. The parameters affected on the system are Rayleigh number ranging within (102 ~ Ra* 〈 104), and MHD (Mn) (0 〈_ Mn 〈_ 100) and radius ratio Rr (0.225, 0.338 and 0.435). The results obtained are presented graphically in the form of streamline and isotherm contour plots and the results show that heat transfer decrease with the increase of magnetohydrodynamic. It was found that the average Nusselt number increase with Ra* and decrease with H~ Mn and Rr. A correlation for the average Nusselt number in terms of Ra* and Mn, has been developed for the inner cylinder.展开更多

This paper studied the combustion of LCM in a divergent porous medium burner(DPMB) by using computational fluid dynamics(CFD), and investigated the effect of gas initial temperature on combustion characteristic, the distribution of temperature and pollutant at different equivalence ratios in detail. Besides, the comparison of divergent and cylindrical burners was also performed in this paper. The results show that: the peak temperature in DPMB increases as the increasing of equivalence ratio, which is also suitable for the outlet NO discharge; the linear correlation is also discovered between peak temperature and equivalence ratios; NO emission at the initial temperature of 525 K is 5.64 times, larger than NO emission at the initial temperature of 300 K. Thus, it is preferable to balance the effect of thermal efficiency and environment simultaneously when determining the optimal initial temperature range. The working parameter limits of divergent burner are wider than that of cylindrical one which contributes to reducing the influence of LCM concentration and volume fluctuation on combustion.展开更多

Optimal homotopy analysis method(OHAM) is best candidate to handle highly nonlinear system of differential equations obtained from boundary layer partial differential equations via appropriate transformations. Graphical illustrations depicting different physical arising parameters against velocity, temperature and concentration distributions with required discussion have also been added. Numerically calculated values of skin friction coefficient, local Nusselt and Sherwood numbers are given in the form of table and well argued. It is found that nanofluid velocity increases with increase in mixed convective and viscoelastic parameters but it decreases with the increasing values of porosity parameter. Also, it is observed that Dufour number has opposite behavior on temperature and concentration profiles.展开更多
