In order to reveal the characteristics and climatic controls on the stable isotopic composition of precipitation over Arid Northwestern China, eight stations have been selected from Chinese Network of Isotopes in Prec...In order to reveal the characteristics and climatic controls on the stable isotopic composition of precipitation over Arid Northwestern China, eight stations have been selected from Chinese Network of Isotopes in Precipitation(CHNIP).During the year 2005 and 2006, monthly precipitation samples have been collected and analyzed for the composition of δD and δ18O.The established local meteoric water line δD=7.42δ18O+1.38, based on the 95 obtained monthly composite samples, could be treated as isotopic input function across the region.The deviations of slope and intercept from the Global Meteoric Water Line indicated the specific regional meteorological conditions.The monthly δ18O values were characterized by a positive correlation with surface air temperature(δ18O(‰) =0.33 T(℃)-13.12).The amount effect visualized during summer period(δ18O(‰) =-0.04P(mm)-3.44) though not appeared at a whole yearly-scale.Spatial distributions of δ18O have properly portrayed the atmospheric circulation background in each month over Arid Northwestern China.The quan-titative simulation of δ18O, which involved a Rayleigh fractionation and a kinetic fractionation, demonstrated that the latter one was the dominating function of condensation of raindrops.Furthermore, the raindrop suffered a re-evaporation during falling processes, and the precipitation vapor might have been mixed with a quantity of local recycled water vapor.Multiple linear regression equations and a δ18O-T relation have been gained by using meteorological parameters and δ18O data to evaluate physical controls on the long-term data.The established δ18O-T relation, which has been based on the present-day precipitation, could be considered as a first step of quantitatively reconstructing the historical environmental climate.展开更多

In order to improve the compatibility of TBG and its analogues with other ingredients in antifouling paints, structural modification of TBG was focused mainly on halogen substitution and N-substitution. Two halogen-substitute gramines and their derivatives which contain ester functional groups at N-position of gramines were synthesized. Algal inhibition activities of the synthesized compounds against algae Nitzschia cIosterium were evaluated and the Median Effective Concentration (EC50) range was 1.06-6.74 lag ml^-1. Compounds that had a long chain ester group exhibited extremely high antifouling activity. Quantitive Structure Activity Relationship (QSAR) studies with multiple linear regression analysis were applied to fred correlation between different calculated molecular descriptors and biological activity of the synthesized compounds. The factors of physics and chemistry can affect the rate of eutrophication. The data obtained through laboratory analysis of physical and chemical parameters of water samples. Water samples were taken from 8 observation stations. Highly variable results were obtained in each observation station. Data physical parameters were tested with statistical multiple linear regression to determine the effect on water quality, the results show that the physical properties do not affect the rate of eutrophication in Lake Tondano. That is, the amount of total dissolved solids content and total suspended solids, will not affect the rate of eutrophication in Lake Tondano. The results of multiple linear regression satistik test against chemical parameter data that is phosphate, BOD, COD and DO showed as a significant effect on the rate of eutrophication in lakes. The higher phosphate levels will be higher as the increase of the rate of eutrophication in Lake Tondano.展开更多

Plants growing in such harsh conditions have adapted to small niches, which allow them to survive. In northern Alaska, USA, both moist acidic and non-acidic tundra occur, yet determination of frozen soil p Hs currently requires thawing of the soil so that electrometric pH methods can be utilized. Contrariwise, a portable X-ray fluorescence(PXRF) spectrometer was used in this study to assess elemental abundances and relate those characteristics to soil pH through predictive multiple linear regressions. Two operational modes, Soil Mode and Geochem Mode, were utilized to scan frozen soils in-situ and under laboratory conditions, respectively, after soil samples were dried and ground. Results showed that lab scanning produced optimal results with adjusted coefficient of determination(R^2) of 0.88 and 0.33 and root mean squared errors(RMSEs) of 0.87 and 0.34 between elemental data and lab-determined pH for Soil Mode and Geochem Mode, respectively. Even though the presence of ice attenuated fluoresced radiation under field conditions, adjusted R^2 and RMSEs between the datasets still provided reasonable model generalization(e.g., 0.73 and 0.49 for field Geochem Mode). Principal component analysis qualitatively separated multiple sampling sites based on elemental data provided by PXRF, reflecting differences in the chemical composition of the soils studied. Summarily, PXRF can be used for in-situ determination of soil pH in arctic environments without the need for sample modification and thawing. Furthermore, use of PXRF for determination of soil pH may provide higher sample throughput than traditional eletrometric-based methods, while generating elemental data useful for the prediction of multiple soil parameters.展开更多
Lightning is an important natural source of wildfires and oxynitride,and hence significantly influences ecological systems and atmospheric chemistry.Here,we choose South Asia,an important region for global water reall...Lightning is an important natural source of wildfires and oxynitride,and hence significantly influences ecological systems and atmospheric chemistry.Here,we choose South Asia,an important region for global water reallocation and global climate changes,to examine lightning variations based on the longest existing lightning dataset from the OTD/LIS observations.We identify a clear increase in lightning density in the research region,increasing at a rate of 0.096 fl km^(-2)a^(-1)over the last two decades.Multiple linear regression analysis is adopted to identify the main influencing factors among ten potential thermodynamic or microphysical factors and the crucial areas contributing to the increases in lightning.The surface latent heat flux along the west coast of the Indian subcontinent is the largest contributor,explaining52%of the lightning variance and contributing to a 0.025 fl km^(-2)a^(-1)increase.The sea surface temperature in the Arabian Sea,the convective available potential energy(CAPE)over the northwestern Indian subcontinent,and the wind shear along the northwestern coast also make important contributions to the lightning increase,indicating that the thermodynamic effects overwhelm the microphysical effects on lightning activity over the South Asia region.展开更多
