However, little is known about the molecular mechanism of this process. In this work, a newly developed rutile bio-desilication reactor was applied to enrich rutile from rough rutile concentrate obtained from Nanzhao rutile mine and a comprehensive high through-put functional gene array(Geo Chip 4.0) was used to analyze the functional gene diversity, structure and metabolic potential of microbial communities in the biological desilication reactor. The results show that TiO2 grade of the rutile concentrate could increase from 78.21% to above 90% and the recovery rate could reach to 96% or more in 8-12 d. The results also show that almost all the key functional genes involved in the geochemical cycling process, totally 4324 and 4983 functional microorganism genes, are detected in the liquid and ore surface, respectively. There are totally 712 and 831 functional genes involved in nitrogen cycling for liquid and ore surface samples, respectively. The relative abundance of functional genes involved in the phosphorus and sulfur cycling is higher in the ore surface than liquid. These results indicate that nitrogen, phosphorus and sulfur cycling are also present in the desiliconization process of rutile. Acetogenesis genes are detected in the liquid and ore surface, which indicates that the desiliconizing process mainly depends on the function of acetic acid and other organic acids. Four silicon transporting genes are also detected in the sample, which proves that the bacteria have the potential to transfer silicon in the molecule level. It is shown that bio-desilication is an effective and environmental-friendly way for enrichment of rough rutile concentrate and presents an overview of functional diversity and structure of desilication microbial communities, which also provides insights into our understanding of metabolic potential in biological desilication reactor ecosystems.展开更多

Chemical analysis showed that there were variations in the chemical constituents (lignin, cellulose, N, H and C) of the six baits studied. On the other hand, olfactory reactions of harvester termites toward eight volatile oils (four natural medical plants and four commercial terpines) were repellent, but the most repellent one was cineol and the least one was clove oil. The most tested oils were caused inhibition in feeding, except cedar wood. The most toxic oils were cineol followed by thymol.展开更多

Methods: Polymerase chain reaction-single strand conformation polymorphism (PCR-SSCP) was used to amplify 4 exons of PTEN and to analyze the conformation polymorphism, then DNA sequencing methods was used to detect point mutation of PTEN gene four exons of abnormal single strand conformation in soft tissue sarcomas. Results: Two of 86 cases showed 130th condon G→A missense mutation in the exon 8 of PTEN gene, and this mutation made Arg to change to Gin in PTEN protein structure 334th condon A→T missense mutation in the exon 8 of PTEN gene, and this mutation made Asn to change to Lys in PI-EN protein structure. Conclusion: These data indicated the existence of PTEN mutation in soft tissue sarcomas, but PTEN gene mutation rate is very low. PTEN mutation may prays an less important role in the development and malignant transformation of soft tissue sarcomas.展开更多

Methods Detection of inversion involving intron 22 in the FVIII gene was completed by long distance polymerase chain reaction ( PCR) and linkage analysis was performed by using several genetic polymorphisms including an intragenic Bcl I RFLP, 2 STRs and an extragenic St14 VNTR. Results Intron 22 inversion was observed in 10 out of the 21 (47.6%) pedigrees examined. Prenatal diagnosis was completed in 3 pedigrees. A further combination of the four intragenic and extragenic polymophic loci gave an informative rate of 94.7%. Conclusions Female relatives in HA families with inversion can be detected with direct diagnostic procedure. The application of long distance PCR makes the detection much more simple and rapid. For families without inversions, it is easier and more cost-effective to undertake linkage analysis of genetic polymorphism based on PCR.展开更多

METHODS: The nested polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) were used. Three primers were selected from the DNA sequence of the gene encoding type-specific 56-kDa protein of the Karp strain. The positive products were digested by Hine II and Pst I, meanwhile profiles specific to each strain were analyzed. RESULTS: Three genotypes of O. tsutsugamushi including Karp, Kato and a new strain existed on Nan Peng Lie Islands. CONCLUSION: Nan Peng Lie Islands is tsutsugamushi disease nature foci.展开更多
